yes the ports have sides... It's easier to assemble that way.. you can do away with them if you like and increase the port length... I put the port together first and assemble the rest of the box (excluding the bottom.) line the port up, glue/secure it, then put the bottom on.. that way you have the sides of the ports to anchor the port to the box... for me it's easier that way.. I somtimes build several a day so I have my own little methods to get them done quicker.

2nd Battery, HC600?
rushnrun replied to buickid's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
from my experience the 600 is almost worthless, with a 160amp alt, duralast gold under the hood, the HC600 in the trunk, just running a kicker 750.1 the headlights in my buddies Jag still dimmed(voltage dropped to 11-ish). We swapped him out to a 800 and there's no more dimming... So I would say save your money and get something bigger... atleast an 800 but more towards the 1400 or 1800... you can never have too much battery -
the cop that gave me the stereo ticket was gay... didn't pan out for me.. guess I wasn't "purty" enough.. or maybe he was offend because I like boobies...

So on the ride home from work today I got pulled over for my "loud" stereo.. good thing I drove the suburban today that has a factory tape deck still installed running most of the factory speakers (some are blown) Anyhow no subs, no nothing, just me and my local rock station.. the officer said "I saw you driving yesterday in a different car with a loud stereo, and now today it's loud again" Yes he did see me yesterday playing the "loud" stereo my single 8 and 150 watts that I am currently using for daily in my Mazda.. but today there is no way it was illegal... I measured it... you can only really hear the music 50 or so feet away and nothing great at that... (the mazda broadcast and can be heard quite a ways away) Just ticks me off to get a ticket when I wasn't actaully loud... why didn't he pull me over back when I had the 150+ db daily setup? I called the courthouse and they won't let me come over and prove you can't hear it at 75 feet ...the law... said I had to wait till court to have my day grrr.. just venting

MY Buddy got pulled over once while drinking (i was with him) he got out of the car put both hands up in the air and stood against his car (he assumed the position) the officer tackled him and beat him with the night stick all while yelling "stop resisting" he never tried to move let alone resist... oh yeah they did pick him up off the ground and slammed his head into the rear quarter of his car.. a few times...(completly caved it in... brand new car.. he had it for like 3 days) a little excessive force... this kid is 5'10" and 145 soaking wet.... not a real threat..

Please help!!!!
rushnrun replied to rybruce33's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
well I'm anti-yellow top..... for my own reasons With that size of an amp I have to reccomend you run atleast another small battery in the back... even something like a kinetik 800c... otherwise you can count on replacing your alt in the near future.. -
Please help!!!!

I'm a big fan of over-kill... however in your case 4 gauge is fine... even from the extra batt to the amp, the run of wire will be so short it won't really make a difference with the amperage you'll be pulling. Still do the "big 3"..... it does make a difference in your voltage... i normally see a .2 or .3 volt change in the rear of the vehicle. you can never have too much power Normally I do the big 3 in 4 gauge... easier to work with, cheaper and does the job... -
Trying to find an amp...
rushnrun replied to gearstix's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I know the MA topic is dead... however I've owned and competed with and 802sx and.... I ran a pair of MA12XL's on it for a while and posted decent numbers 149-150 legal all sealed on the dash stock class... My biggest problem with the amp was it always shutting down for no apparent reason.. anytime the output voltage reached 160volts it shut down.. with or without a load. it also consumed tons of current And as for the reviews... I never burnt up a woofer on the amp.... Never..... heck I used it on my 2 diamond audio d5 10's for a whole season without burning up a sub.. I switched out to two soundstream ega1700d's and fried the woofers on the first run in the first 5 seconds of the run... same box.. same note.. same electrical.. posted right at a 151 before they died.. -
the single sealed L5 10 is 125 as well as the ported.... pm me if interested.
-
L5's over the CVX's never heard an ascendant woofer I'll gladly sell you my new pair of 06S15L5 D4's (I've got tons of kicker gear... to many abandoned projects) 280+shipping

DON'T waste your money on the kicker comp truck box.. terrible output and sound.. if you're stuck on buying a prefab look into a sealed L5 truck box or atleast the CVR10 instead of the comp. I have all three truck style boxes sitting in my store room.. the sealed L5 box wins hands down.. the kicker comp box just sucks.. the comp vr has a slight improvement over the comp.. I also have the ported L5 but the sealed sounds much better...

I havn't had a rear view mirror in any of my stereo cars since 01 my 05 mazda 6 I tore the metal clean off the car that held the lock mechanism on the hatch.. the metal tore, trunk was locked.. then it was open.. lock still locked/attached to the car 153db and alot of noise from the bystanders wasn't that happy of a day for me... 800 for a new/used lid. that's my worst damage... I've broke plenty of $h!t in my day
-
yeah... haven't done that since... we'll leave the high speed runs at the track where it belongs anymore I only drive at most 3-5 over... I got my one freebie.

exhaust is a huge deal around here... well everything is.. I eventually sold the civic after getting several warnings for the exhaust.. I just got tired of getting pulled over, and I wasn't about to buy all the factory stuff to put back on. The civic was excessive at an idle the exhaust rattled all the windows in my home.. very loud when you got on it.
-
on that note... last year I got stopped for doing 137 in a 55mph... the cop let me off with a warning.. it was a state cop , when he came to the window he stated while chuckling a little "now we both know you were doing a little more than 55" ... the day I got stopped was the first time I had the car out to run it since the head had been reworked and the new full 3.5" stainless exhaust was installed... My plates at the time were HAMSTER and when the cop walked up "like a rinestone cowboy" was playing on the radio.. when the cop wrote my warning he wrote it for 77 in a 55 and told me to keep the speed in the hamster down now that was a cool cop... I was on a two lane road in the country that nobody is ever on, he was on the next road over when he clocked the little green blurr..

oh yeah that means I have more stuff to sell.. comps, mid amp small woofer amp some l7 8's

well like I said, sometimes you deserve it.. I didn't feel like I deserved it... I know I see him in the tunnel... I know I will see him every day... I would have turned it down if I would have know he considered it illegal... kinda why I figured he'd give me a warning.. but in his eyes I was a repeat offender... no big deal it's 75 bucks... currently none of my cars have any aftermarket stereos installed. I took everything out this weekend.. no more car audio.. I'll keep it in the home theater and just my competition car(it's never daily driven) btw... I forgot how good the factory sounded in my zoom zoom

I've had experience with these woofers/seen them in action... two in a 2.5 cube box tuned 30hz running off a JL audio 1000.1 did 143-144ish at the headrest in a Camaro during MECA comp, on the t/l I sat in the car....... and they didn't sound too bad... sounded pretty clean, however, they did bottom out when he got to crankin' on them. He actually was there for SQ...

I'm not saying I haven't deserved a ticket in the past.... I don't drive around "bumpin" anymore. I haven't for years. I only crank it up at shows or whatnot, anyhow I'm not out disturbing the peace in the residential areas. the officer sees me everyday in the same location playing my radio moderately loud at best. I see him in a 2-lane tunnel every day.. yesterday he turned around at the other side and pulled me over about two miles down the road. I went to school with the kid, was friends with the kid, he hung out with my sister (he's 1 year older) and literally have know him all my life. He's the local cop that gets his rocks off by writing random tickets. No warings.. ever.. just tickets.. and like I said this circustance didn't merrit a ticket. anyhow I just posted to vent, not really looking for empathy. the ticket isn't worth fighting, however I am a bit upset that the duty officer wouldn't allow me to bring my truck directly over to the court house to measure the distance-I called the duty officer before I pulled away from the other officer. He did state that the officer could not write me a ticket for the previous day. Anyhow I only have three speakers that work in the truck, passenger front and two rear, It's my work truck and has nothing in it.. it's only driven 3 miles a day. It CAN'T be heard more than 50 feet I measured it yesterday... the only reason he heard it was from the two lane tunnel we were in.

yep 6 tall 15wide 22 long port gives you roughly 34 hz... pending on how you brace (it's actually a 33 hz tuning but after displacement of bracing you should be right around 34... I didn't plan any bracing for you.) My general rule... brace each solid panel atleast every 18 inches
-
port just runs the bottom of the box, so no L shape
-
here's the quick sketch to give you an idea... I don't have anything but copy paper and a pencil so that's how it's drawn up.. looks like a 3yr old drew it port sides "are" flush with the side written like a 3yr old as well
-
yep,, it moves at a blistering 14.5k/sec doesn't matter, I've got all day.... well until 4

I'll get a pic posted in a sec... takes forever to upload on work's dial-up
