My New Amp For Testing
rushnrun replied to rushnrun's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
at .5 ohm I blew the 320 amp inline fuse roughly 3k when the fuse blew.... must have a drop in efficiency at .5 the voltage dropped to 11's kinda bummed... I do MECA so power consumption plays a big roll Guess I'll keep running the zx2500's.... they do about 2700 each at 1 ohm and I can run an 60 amp fuse each for burps.... I'm gonna wire the amp up straight in a sec and see what it'll do un-fused... -

well looks like she should do more than 4k at one ohm (measured 3800 at the highest).... should put out more.... fried the woofer before I got it turned up.. I was rolling the volume when the woofers smoked now the house smells purty... oh yeah 12.3ish volts 25 hz didn't pop th 320 amp inline fuse.. however I didn't measure the power consumption... currently it's hooked to only 2200cca worth of batteries the charger is still hooked on 2A trickle.... lesson of the day.... 750 watt woofer + 3500 watts = smoke -

I've got the cd1500c's.... the midgrade subs... I thought they were the better ones when I purchased them... anyhow I'll hook the pair up at 2ohm then at .5ohm.... to test at 1 ohm I'll have to run 4.... but I'll have to build a box for that... I may try to test with my PB Xtrem 10...I've burped it on 2.5k before.... so maybe it'll hold.. I sold off all my good woofers ... down tho the solo x 18's (which I don't have a box for) -

alright! finally a good number with the good batts.. one batt was toast well I was able to obtain roughly the same result 4 seperate times (within 120 watts) high output @ 35 hz 12.5v input 2 ohm (accounting for impedence rise) was.... .... 1820 watts... not bad at two ohm for a .5ohm stable amp.... also note that it'll handle 17v input. after the four test the woofer was getting a little stinky so I shut her down.. I let it hold for 10 seconds on each "burp" I'll have to build something to test the 1 ohm output (2 clif 15's...)... my poor test woofer (re se 12) won't take too many more burps off it. -

NOPE Been way too busy, I'll get on it this weekend... no plans... yet..... I'll post on it as soon as I get some numbers... I'll be selling the amp shortly.. Apparently I can't find the time to play with it. I'll try to get some good numbers prior to selling. -
not worth the recone.. Heck I bought my 8's for $65 10's for $90 and my 12's for $110 It'll probably cost you atleast 100 to recone..

to epic 160
rushnrun replied to jonbearsmt's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
MAKE IT LOUDER . COM Sells meters that are almost dead on with a termlab, you can pick the meter up on ebay for like 60. The downfall to their basic sensor is you have to use a multimeter then convert the mv number to db via their conversion chart. I've ran mine side by side with a term and it was pretty well dead on + or - .3db I think they also have some computer software that makes it operate like a term... I bought my meter in 05 so prices may have gone up.../ things may have changed... **The Audiocontrol epic 160 is ok but no where near the same as running a T/L the 160 is really meant to be mounted in the dash not moved around to find a "sweet spot" the 160 will most likly read 2-3db higher than a t/l -

the L5 is in a sealed. I tried 45 hz but the amp kept shutting down on low voltage... I just don't have the batts to test... they've sat for over a year now and they're just not holding up... (they were stored in the garage ) I did see an increase in output prior to it shutting down.. the batts are dropping to the 10's now... I'll try to "borrow" some from my work tomarrow.. we sell recharged batts so I can swap my "recharge" for better ones. I'm just using 1100cca industrial interstates -

the woofer can't handle it in the box it's in... I need to get a couple new batts hooked up and get something better to test with woofer wise.. -

re-tested and got roughly the same numbers 805 the L5's impeadence is roughly 17 ohms at 60hz, resting is 1.9 ohm it's exact reading was 56.7 volts and 14.2 amps at roughly the same instant the amp was consuming 87.9 amps at 11.42volts (DC) when the reading was taken.. my batts can't keep it above 12 time for some new ones.. *you can only look at so many reading at once... so give a good + or - 10% human error as well -

well 805 at 2 ohm on the l5 10..... the 10 sounds like it'll come apart at 600 watts... so output is possibly restricted by woofer's ability.. -

well got a decent number after swapping out batts.. did 720watts at 4.3ohm (resting) the input voltage was 12.3 and dropped to 11.9-12.1 while reading the output.. THESE ARE ESTIMATES : so maybe 840 at 14v and roughly 1000 at 17v.... The woofer is a concept PT 12 D2 wired up at 4, at the terminals it's 4.3ohm, the box is 1.5 cubes ported @35hz... so my ohm reading may be way wrong due to impeadence rise.. Next an L5 10 in .75 sealed at 2 ohm... results shortly... don't know if the l5 will take it.. -

darn.... batts are junk, well before all the batts gave up (amp shut down on low voltage right away dropped from 12.3 to less than 10...) it only did 450 watts @ 4 ohm with 0%gain on about 1 volt of input... not a good number to go off of being it only played breifly... I've got my other set of batts on the charger now. -

well my batteries were dead they've been on trickle for the past 24hrs.. hopefully they come back... they were resting at 11.4 :/ Should have some 4 ohm numbers tomorrow. -
My buddy had 4 of those H2's 3 of the 4 started sounding like something was broken. His ended up being a loose dust cap(on all three).. you may want to start your investigation there.. it'll make it rattle at higher volumes....

http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=...ideoid=27964439 Well this is the quick install I did in my buddies Yukon... only spent about 4-5 hours--including time to build the box... the dancing can is 3/4 full... we noticed it spinning while we were adjusting so I shot a video of it.... don't mind the distortion.. it doesn't sound like that... my cheap digital camera can't handle the pressure.

well the 3k should make a little more noise

thanks for the info... Don't know how I'd get it apart without destroying it though..

OEM intergration... Trying to keep the Stock Gear
rushnrun replied to rushnrun's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
well in the new GTI's it displays the channel and other vairous info, by the speedo (in the instrament cluster-it also displays on the unit.), it's a 6 disc in dash mp3 with aux in, and has sirus, the unit has red led's with blue lighted display.. looks nice while night driving(everything inside the car is red led with blue lighting)... Also I'd like the car to appear 100% stock.. the woofer and amp will be hid away.. so I've got a few reasons... ..... I think one of the sundown fellas runs an rf sixty in their gti.... -
OEM intergration... Trying to keep the Stock Gear
rushnrun posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Well I recently (2 weeks ago) purchased a Brand New Volkswagen GTI and it just turned 1000miles so it's time to play (I told myself that I'd at least drive it for 1k miles before tearing it apart.) Anyhow, I'm looking into processors, line level converters, ect.. I'd like to keep the factory deck, It's a in dash 6 disc with aux in and Sirius so I'd like to keep it for now (I've never ran a stock so this will be a new adventure) What I'm looking to do is just get some better sound.. I'll probably throw a five channel amp in there with a single 10 and leave the stock mids intact for now . Currently the stock setup sounds terrible... I've never heard a factory set sound so bad. Really itching' to get it swapped out... I think it's biggest problem is poor design of the "subwoofer" and mid.. they're in a common chamber in the front door... I'm not even sure what's in there but it just sounds bad I'm looking into something like a rf sixty or something similar from any-other brand.. audiocontrol ect... anyone here have something similar that they love/hate.. any pros or cons of each? This is just going to be my weekend driver, no comps for this car so I'm trying to keep it simple and sounding decent and keeping the trunk (not that it has much to begin with).. It'll be geared towards SQ but like I said I have no intent on competing nor do I plan on any major mods... So any knowledgeable info would be appreciated. I'm normally an spl guy but for my daily I am a big fan of having time alignment and at least a 30 band eq. the mazda was dual purpose the GTI won't be used for spl at all.. *I will upgrade speakers later... Currently I don't have the budget for new mids_atleast not the caliber that I desire (I know that contradicts the non-competing but I like my cruising car to sound as good as possible). sorry for the long unorganized post
