backintheday's build log > 8 solo 15"s and 2 colossus
fatjoe61682 replied to nem's topic in Build Logs
I have some sketches done and some calculations for the boxes. I am going to do 4 cubic feet per sub sealed. This should give me the low end I am looking for. I know you diehard SPL guys are going to flame me for giving up the db gain from a ported box, but I am building this to listen to, not for the meter. I really enjoy my 15-20Hz range and ported just won't cut if for me. I am also able to squeeze this into a wall behind the middle seat leaving me with a very large cabin that should play the low lows well without having to open up the windows A 4th order designed correctly could give you what you want and gain you a couple db -

You can get a crunch 3000dpro for under 500 new. Pushes the btl pretty well.

That motor design is what they went to after the old triple slug design. I believe it changed about a year ago. The plugged up pole piece helps with cooling. It is explained either on their forum or website.

should i have ordered the flatwind coil or is the copper coil fine Copper coil will give you better sq and lower fs flatwind would have made it handle more power so with your amp you made the right choice

2 Fi BTL 12's In 2002 Supercab Ranger Edge

I would definately try subs forward. If you do you should either fire the port up or towards the drivers side with subs stacked on the passenger side. This is of coarse if you are interested in rocking the mic. No matter what your shooting for I'm sure BJ will hook you up. -
Sorry to say the build is off guys. Lost my job today.

probably be bumpin in another week or two but it'll be a couple months til i double the power.

Cant do that considering the baffles are the port.

Added some bracing and a coat of primer today.

How About a Side by Side by Side by Side by Side Comparison?
fatjoe61682 replied to rushnrun's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
The visonik is stable to .5ohm when run solo (it's advertised as 1ohm)... strapped it's recomended that the load be 2ohm (but one ohm stable)... same as the clif amps I had a while back.. I've been told there are several guys that run these strapped at one ohm (on 16v)... I need to pull my other amp out and test it to see if it does the same, just to make sure something isn't wrong with the one amp.. ***It was running two ohms (with rise) anyway.... dual one nightshade wired in series... 1.2ohm resting... The visonik is 2 ohm stable unless modded, and its rated power is @ 17V's. So maybe it clip's because of the voltage. -
What is this large area you speak of Neal?

35 cubes tuned at 40Hz. 555 square inches of port. Power will be 5000-7000 on burps. Could i safely run this enclosure daily between 2000-3000 or should i make a port insert? What do you think? What sub's? The IXL18.2's would have been considered but they are not in stock. Thanks in advance for your help.
