Okay then To maximise your potential you need to find your resonant frequency of your car. I think I read somewhere that Scion is 50hx tuning, but each car is uniquely different so we need to account for that. The aim of this is to not build a one note box, but to build a box that has a interchangeable port so that you can use the box to street beat as well as compete. It takes some more planning and time, but its all worth it in the end 8) Looking at the cabling side is one thing, but have you considered your battery? the box itself? sounddeadening or blocking utility holes in doors? There are numrous things to consider to push the SPL up instead of just throwing raw power at a sub in a box.

Sorry - I should have asked. Do you want it louder for street beating or for competition?

I'll tell you a couple of tricks that I've learnt over the years You'll need a TL or meter of some sort Find your reso freq. Keep car running to keep constant power. Short bursts only. Record everything in a logical manner Play with 1) box position - forward, back, up, side, and even on angles. (ive used a jack to angle the box down into the tailgate to test..) 2) pressing on doors, one at a time, 2 at a time, one side only, both sides, pushing on boot 3) seat positions, all the way forward, all the way back, tilted forward, tilted back, headrests or not etc etc 4) Bigger grounds eg a Corolla hatch is unique in that in 3 generations of playing in that car, I can nearly reproduce the exact same results and go up around 3 db playing with the car. Box firing backwards, passenger front seat forward tilted forward no headrest, drivers side in same position, push on passenger side with termlab - gain 3db. Did it in 5 minutes for a competitor who thought he knew the technical side and its all about learning how the car behaves. Go play around with your car some DC

Pioneer 880PRS internal amplifier Q
DeeCee posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
The pioneer 880PRS / P80RS has an internal amplifier that can be be turned on and off as required. 1. Can the unit be used in network mode and still use the internal amplifier to output to the front and rear channels? 2. if the channels are still powered in network mode, do they have filtering on them? and can front/rear balance still be controlled from the headunit? Thanks Dave -
Yep, the 100.2 is uber powerful.. which is probably why I initially questioned Jacob on the specs @ 4ohms bridged.... 400W!

Its only for strapping two amps together

Glad you are safe. That is the most important thing. And great score for the show

The kids like big things. Big magnets, big power figures, flashy installs. The more discerning consumer would be more amenable to the likes of SD-1s as it comes down to a quality thing.

Does your HU have an active crossover on it? If so, then use the functions of the headunit and allow a full signal through the amp.

Well, I thought I'd bother to say Hi, so Hi I'm Dave from New Zealand and I am NZ distributor for Sundown Audio and working with Galen @ Indigo Audio, offering Fi, Ascendant, Kinetik and RE to the masses down under. I've been playing car audio games since 96 and previously ran the local SQ competition format here in NZ for the last 3 years. Now I'm a dealer/distributor and am currently working on a couple of demo cars as well as general installs and SPL box builds/designs etc. Anyhoo, instead of working on my accounts, I thought I'd play on the internet and show some pictures This is my big project: 1990 GT4A which will have a full interior rebuild to suit SQ and will be built up as a demo car for the show scene. This one is my personal pet project eg - my ultimate SQ vehicle setup. Custom... well pretty much everything in the interior and I may have some fun with some glass exterior wise if I can be bothered. Kevlar bonnets, undertrays, centre sub, this this, that that etc etc hahaha This is the current state of the GT4A: Previously I had this as my SPL toy: I've run a couple of different styles with SS1-2NW: Street Max 1-2 - single sub Street Max 1-2 - two subs At the mo, I'll turn my work vehicle into a street beater with the MT18s later on in the year, but over the next couple of weeks, I'll be doing a special project for a competition late October. On a side note, one day I decided to pull all the stuff out of the cupboards and lay it out in the lounge. Carputer, amps, subs, speakers (some custom handbuilt units in there etc. Yes, there are Sony XES M3's there. I have 4 of them now. I'm one of those collector types A couple of RE subs here haha: Last thing, since it was pointed out to me that it is a rather unique thing and I'm not sure that they have been seen around much - RE Team Shirt: Anyway, hope you enjoy and I'll see you around the boards. Cheers Dave

Hahahaha.. nice one! Though I think you forgot a handle, unless you are pulling on the speaker cable from door pod to window pod

Amp is an Epsilon 5000D aka Fusion FCA4000D aka Surfboard - 1.2m long if I can remember correctly. My friend thought he could drive the lada with his feet when he was sitting in the box..... Do people want the entertaining pics, or build pics.. i have plenty of both, but only if others contribute. Maybe I'll start a new thread in off topic or soemthing.

Well the celica has always been on the backburner as I have my business to run as well as doing other work/projects. I do a bit here, I do a bit there, but overall, I will most likely get into it when the business is fully functioning, which is getting delayed as a couple of competitors want me to help them out before a comp, of which I am also building something for We'll see how it goes, but I'm thinking that I'll have time to work on the Celica in February maybe hahaha This is the gearbox at the moment Initially i had to get it repaired as the synchro hub cracked all the way around. First time the gearbox repair people had seen such a thing.

Good choice on the 2 channel Its a very good amp which is underrated and they look hot as well

Cheers Denim. I've been floating around for a while now, but I thought I'd say hi as I didnt' want to do my accounts last night haha. Acidburn: omghi2u2

The 100.2 should have ample power to run the bostons. Overall, it won't make much difference if your amp does 100W @ 4ohm with 125W speakers, because you will never realise the full potential of either power rating for an extended period of time due to the impedance of the speaker changing with the music. As a good rule, a 20% overhead of amp power to speaker rated power is what I generally use, but that is in rather high powered SQ systems.

The truck is shiny Normally in those situations, I just help the guy and then "recommend" some better stuff

Meh - like it matters if you know more than the salesman. Its like going into a (thinks of american store) Best Buy and asking them if they know about a small company who hand builds SQ speakers like Andrian Audio when talking about home hi-fi. 99% of the time, they won't know, so I won't push them or feel the need to display my knowledge on the subject unless we start getting into an in depth conversation. Personally, I used to just walk out if they didn't have what I wanted, otherwise I'd politely nod my head and let the salesperson get their spiel out and just keeping looking and playing with stuff. They have a job, and they can do it to the best of their abilities and it doesn't worry me in the slightest if they don't know the latest and greatest out there. Thats what the internet is for I've also been to a couple of shops with the show cars / spl cars looking for an ANL fuse or the like, and all the sales people do is fluster and claim we could never use a 300A fuse or we should only have to use 8GA for power to a couple of amps, until I show them the 70mm^2 welding cable running through the cabin, and then they are a bit gobsmacked. But all in all, if you need an ego trip, I'm sure that there are better ways to do it than pick on a low level target like a salesperson.
