Is a watt, a watt, no matter what?
mdexxxiv replied to Sencheezy's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Volts X Amperes = Watts. By the way, there is no standard definition for a watt in audio. Simplest way from an EE point of view: In terms of classical mechanics, one watt is the rate at which work is done when an object's velocity is held constant at one meter per second against constant opposing force of one newton. In terms of electromagnetism, one watt is the rate at which work is done when one ampere (A) of current flows through an electrical potential difference of one volt (V). -
Well done, well said.

Hello all, My name is Jason Stolsek, and I will be assisting the new owners of Second Skin with consumer questions, basic support and marketing. I am here to learn as well as assist in getting the word out and I look forward to being a part of a great team. I can be reached here or at [email protected]. Thank you.

It was good to see you at the Phx show. Ken donated a Damplifier Pro door pack for the raffle. My intent is to have a booth set up at future events and have Ken up there so everyone can put a face with the name. We are looking forward to a great year.

GM roofs are known for flexing badly. Best to brace it with 4' strips of layered MDF with silicone to adhere it, then coat with the Damplifier Pro on the metal between the strips. That will give you the added rigidity.

Hey Stefan, I was the one helping at the Hooters show. Blue jeep with the Fi BL, right? My ride will not be done for some time but I might put the BTL back in for the Dec 4th show in Phx.

Let me know and it will come.

I'm still learning the ropes so to speak but I will let everyone know about specials, tech tips, prizes, etc as they are communicated to me by Ken. However, at the Dec 4th Arizona Audiofest Hooters event, I want to do a raffle for some door kits to benefit the Melonhead Foundation for cancer patients and their families. Information forthcoming.

That 90 grand covers machine set up, tooling, development, fabrication, all that. I guarantee this is NOT an off-the-shelf item, and none of the parts are either.

What's it tuned at?

I noticed you have Kicker as your official amps for the product. Maybe you should look at Zapco. It also helps that I am the rep out here for Zapco, and having a BTL, I can attest that it is a MUCH BETTER PRODUCT than Kicker. We built a system in a Honda Element running 2, just 2 Zapco 9.0's to 8 Cerwin Vega vmax 15's and it hit 159-160dB consistent. I have absolute faith in the product, and yours too. Here are the specs: Stereo, 4 ohms: 2x300 Stereo, 2 ohms: 2x600 Stereo, 1 ohm:2x1100 Bridged, 4 ohms:1x2200 Bridged, 2 ohms:1x2200 T.H.D. + Noise: Frequency Response: 20Hz - 20KHz, + 0dB / -0.28dB S/N Ratio: <0.05% @ 4 ohms Transient Distortion: <0.009% Slew Rate: >20V/uS Damping Factor: >225 @ 4 ohms Input Sensitivity: 250mV - 16 Volts Dimensions: 19.5"L x 8.75"W x 2.375"H 2-Channel High Efficient Full Range Class D Amplifier with Tripath Microprocessor Control Technology Over 2000 Watt RMS Power into 2 Ohm or 4 Ohm Configuration -Chassis design allows infinite customization options by replacing slide-in trim panels to personalize any installation - SymbiLink™ Balanced Line Technology provides up to 16 volts of balanced input for the cleanest, quietest signal possible -Dual 1,800 watt power supplies for surges well in excess of rated output power for SPL use - Three independent output filtering stages allow full range use as well as bass use in SQ systems - Optical isolation at each stage - ZAPCO DCS microprocessor control for all amplifier functions - Ultra high speed switching frequency for reduced "footprint" -Adjustable input gain up to 30.5 dB -Adjustable Pre-Clip circuitry enabling the user to set the maximum input which in turn determines the desired output. power. You Should Do A Bandpass With About 16 Of Them. Lmao. It has HUGE belly baggage compartments that are about 4 X 4 X 8.5 ft. It'll need some serious sound deadening. I Wonder If A Motorhome Is An Acceptable Vehicle Per USACI Regulations...Lmao. If So, I Might Skip The Van Idea And Rip All The Insides Out Of A Motorhome And Create A Mobile Earthquake Simulator. We're hoping to have this at CES, but it will be used for marketing various products. No big system planned...but that could change.

I think I can fit some 22's in this:

3 VC's? In 20 years in audio, never heard of that. -
Always sounded like a 16 year old girl when he posted.

Velcro was found this morning unable to stand up and he had puked all over himself. He was dead before we got him to the vet. 23 years, 11 months. Chitty day. RIP little buddy.

Find a Batcap 8400 14volt model and call it a day. We used just one to run 2 Zapco 9.0XD's to 8 CV 15's and hit above 158 consistantly. Music, daily, no burping.

IIRC, the old ID stuff had an embossed dustcap and the magnets had decals and/or bumpers. I could tell you more if I saw the back of these as well. I can find out for you, as I am the AZ,NM rep for ID as of a month ago. PM me more pics.

What do you consider loud for daily play?
mdexxxiv replied to phresh's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
140dB is fine for demo. Daily driving should entail something less than this to avoid pissing people off and phucking up your own ears. I run my sub amps on a separate switch so just the front stage is up (nowhere near 140) and I will hit that switch to silence the "gangsta" who thinks he's cool with his 12's in his mommy's car or the stupid b*tch stopped at a green light because she's on her damn phone. Also, I found it hard to even feel the pedals anywhere above 150dB because EVERYTHING is vibrating. Try driving while hitting above 158db, it isn't really possible. -
Seeing as it's built to order it does take some time. I waited 2 1/2 weeks for my 18 but it was well worth it. Scott and Nick are working with a skeleton crew in LV but look at it this way: For $500 you get a custom built sub that is way above anything else out there for 2-3 times the price. I'm ordering 3 more of these 18's in the next 2 weeks. Enjoy it.

Much better! I want to see the new lines and those 22"s.
