So I got the wild idea to see exactly how much I spend on gas and food during the week. After 3 weeks this is what I have found. My job is 28 miles each way 5 days a week gas is ~$2.86 a gallon truck gets ~13mpg average around town. So... 28*2=56 miles a day 56*5=280 miles a week 280/13=21.53gallons of gas 21.53*2.86=$61.60 a week in savings 61.60*52=$3203.20 savings per year Now I will be driving every other week in the car pool so I will actually be saving $123.20 a month. Total savings. $1601.60 Lunch... I spend ~$20 a day on breakfast and lunch. Sometimes just lunch. I will be bringing my lunch 4 days out of the week. After shoping for lunches for 3 weeks now my average cost for a weeks groceries at Kroger is $6.79 So... 20*4=$80 a week. $80-6.79=$73.21 a week. $73.21*52=$3806.92 a year These numbers do not reflect vacation, sick, or holidays. Grand total per year... $1601.60+$3806.92=$5408.52 a year savings What will I buy?
