Really? I thought it was maybe some kind of heat damage. This thing has spent most of its life in a glovebox in south Louisiana. So we learned how to repair them. Step 1 is make sure the headphone jack is clean of lint and debris using the method above. Many times that is all that is wrong with them. Sometimes they need screens replaced and even the internals go bad from time to time, but they are cheap and easy to fix if you take your time.

Power it down and use a lint free swab with a little acetone in it and clean the headphone hole. Clean it good and let sit for about a day. Typically they get lint and such on there and cause your issue.
