I am lucky enough to have a friend at LE (http://www.lelubricants.com/index.html) who does oil analysis for me at work. He comes in and picks up our oil samples and sends us the results of our equipment and we either filter it or replace it. (We don't use their oil just their services) We use mobil gear box oils and shell hyd oils all of which are synthetic. I know there is no best oil for everything out there, but it comes down to how well you can clean it and keep it clean. He has done 2 tests on my 4runner oil and suprising it came back clean enough not to change after one year in the motor. I do change my oil filters every 6 months and oil every year. I have done this since 2007, but never put much over 8k miles a year on it.

AMsoil is garbage. Can't tell you how many early failures I've seen running it. It is the scourge of a 2 stroke and when I worked with load cells and setup test benches for oil it sucked ass in 4's as well. Can I ask why they failed? Was the oil poorly cleaned?

I have been to a bunch of training on Direct Injection. I will never buy one... at least until they figure it out. Always, always, always use synthetics in turbo motors. Always, always, always use detergents in the intake. DIS systems will carbon intake runners and valves. So far the best design I have seen are the Toyota units. They have direct injectors and intake injectors that keep the runners and valves cleaner than most. I am not trying to be a downer, but the Ford DI systems, and their turbo systems in particular, are a diagnostic nightmare. They are using several intake pressure systems on the suction side, compressor side X3, and the intake, yet their diagnostics are very limited at this time. This is typical Ford, and once they figure out common failures, they will continue to breed these failures into future designs with limited diagnosis. While not every engine will suffer from issues, there are still too many engines I see having trouble with DI systems. FWIW, Ford has a tendency to jump headlong into new technologies without long term testing. The results tend to be disastrous. Thanks Seth.

Yes those plugs sucked! When I did my FIL's he got a one piece plug. Took almost 4 damn hours too.

Need to do something like that with the 4runner. Any thoughts? You saw all the goodies at the Haunt. Take a pic with that dragon sitting on top of it We thought about doing that, but there is nothing strong enought to support it above the 4 runner. The dragon is rather heavy. I may be one of the guys who get to hang that bitch!
