Passive vs Active
dbjunior replied to fritosaregood's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
active has the ability to sound better if done right. passive is easier and more efficeint with power like you said. -
what type of music do you listen to this would help with it alot. also you dont need to use a lot of power and subs to be loud. im doing an install with a cheap pair of 10's $50 and a bazooka 300w amp from a pawn shop $25 i plan on doing low 140's with it and bass race 139.9 this is louder than your average street beater. the only way this is possible is the box and install. you dont need to spend a ton of money to get what you want it just needs to be setup correctly for what you want.

before you buy a new system. lets find out a little more about this one is it sealed is it ported. take measurements to find how large it is. how is it located in the car, subs back ,up, forward, side. how is it wired both on there own channels or bridged, the subs are rated at 500wrms each and the rf amp should give them each atleast 300w more than enough to get loud. with the right box setup you should be able to get more out of the subs. what type of music do you listen to help to determine possible tuning and box size. do you have a dmm

Getting new subs in 1-2 months help me choose
dbjunior replied to Astaldoath's topic in Incriminator Audio
if your looking for loud you want ported. but you want to find out what the largest box you can fit or want to fit in your vehicle is then go from there. if you want to get as loud as possible and your looking at a pair of 12's but only have 2.5cu to work with there not going to like there box and wont sound right. but if you have 10 cu you can use why not go with 2 15's or 18's or a single 21. how mcuh room do you have to use and how much power do you have and at what ohm. what is your budget -
none profit means the company doesnt make money after everything is paid material, labor, shipping, etc thats part of why a lot of charitys only like 15% actually goes to what its supposed to. damn ceo's cant forget there bonus checks.
-
you claim you want sq but you are doing 3 10's seems a little overkill. a single 10 should be fine for sq. if you want loud and a clean response that is diffrent. to do this the box is most important. what were the specs of your last setup and what about it were you not happy about.

depends on your power. i think the btl will take more daily.
-
you also want to setup a well organized class system to make it fair. trophys aren't cheap maybe a certificate would be ok depends on entry fee. have fun finding a cheap tl a lot of people would grab one up quick.

setting active xover point for sub amp
dbjunior replied to lithium's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
the crossover reduces the signal by an amount so if the amp is getting a signal that is already reduces it will be further reduced from the original. but it doesnt just drop off from 80hz if it is set at 80hz. if you have a 12db cross over its 12db down from an octave away. there for 40hz would be 0db down 60hz 6db down 80hz 12db if you set the other crossover at 160hz odb would be at 80hz but 80 is already 12db down 160hz would be 24db down from the first crossover plus 18db or whatever the second crossover is, making 160hz 42db down from the original signal -
old btl had a 3rd magnet option
-
i wouldnt layer plexi to get your thicknes might make a slapping noise. neons might work but if you can get leds go that route.
-
i think you would be better off switching to a bl it would fit your desires better. i have a q18 and have tried a lot of boxes you wont get much in the 60-80hz range its made to do great on the lows and it does.

Electrical question
dbjunior replied to jrod1050's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
idk what the redtops are capable of but this batt is 100ah deka a little less power than a d3100 or hc2400 and a lot cheaper -
audioque aq2200 $389, sundown saz3000d or saz2000d not yet out,
-
whats your budget and what ohm subs did you get
-
congrats being an uncle is great i have a 3 year old neices and a girl of my own on the way.
-
i dont get it. subs dont give power. what are you using for power that will be a better way to tell you what subs to get also what is the box like.

Ground wire length
dbjunior replied to ADK's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
only thing to worry about is voltage drop. if you dont get bad voltage drop dont worry about it. if it is a little bad shorter wires or thicker wires will work. if you run 1/0 but your amp cant fit it use a step down connector or a distro close to the amp with smaller wire. -
imagine if that was an 18 or larger. slight waste though spiders and surround couldnt move that much but if they could 5in xmax one way.
-
the coil and cooling determine thermal handling. the box and mms and spider stiffness determine mechaninical. there are other things just didnt list them. tons off power doesnt even mean loud though. just because a magnet is large doesnt mean it is powerful either. there is a y rating on the magnets. the more powerful the magnet the less it handles heat and same applies the other way. the most important thing to remember about getting loud is it takes a quality install more so than equipment choice.

id retune to like 32-34hz and go bl it would love the power and hit the highs nice. dont go wider on the port just shorten it.

How About a Side by Side by Side by Side by Side Comparison?
dbjunior replied to rushnrun's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
are you just trying to burp the visonik? if so you may have to roll up the volume to get it to put out more power without going into protect. i have know people who had the ma 4000 and they have done this many times to get power out of it. rolling up the volume allows for box rise to effect amp rather than burst it with sitting impedence. only problem it gives it time to effect the batterys
