know a good external hard drive???
Alaxan replied to jonbearsmt's topic in Computers / Electronics / Music / Games
External HD's are pretty cheap these days. Pick one up from newegg. Western Digital makes some nice ones, Maxtor and Seagate also have some very nice ones. It's worth it to go ahead and get one pre-fab. Not much of a cost difference and often can be cheaper. -
Have been very busy lately working on a lot of things. We now have paypal in place to take payments via check, credit card or paypal. Desktop systems are beginning to come into place. Soon we will be working on integrating a customization tool for ordering a system.

Most of the old school ssa folks know me pretty well and I've been working on a project for while now called Alchemy Computers. I am located in Tulsa, OK and in a nice central location for shipping purposes. Alchemy Computers is a new computer line based around the mid-high end gaming market primarily. We do have some low end desktop systems that will be comming into play here over the next few weeks as well for the more budget friendly gaming market. Our aim is to build a unique computer to each individual. What that entails exactly is a more personal computer buying experience. Computer systems that are designed to fit the exact needs of the consumer and not fill them with extras that bring the price up. Designing our systems around scalability and more importantly around the consumer. All of our computers can be fully customized all the way down to the color style of the case. Customized graphics can also be applied in a number of ways. Now for the reason behind the post here. Alchemy Computers is going to be showing some of our models here on the site that are for sale and also accepting feedback from you guys on the systems. While this is not an open invite to begin debates here, it is an open invite for the PC enthusiasts and gamers among the community here to bring their ideas, questions and concerns to us. Feel free to pm me anytime here if you would like to place an order for a system or are interested in becomming a part of the team at Alchemy Computers. Our Premier series of laptops start off at $1800 for our AMD systems and $2000 for our Intel based systems. These are designed with the gamer in mind and are our "desktop replacements" HD screens and video cards round off the powerful processors, gaming memory and 7200rpm harddrives installed in these systems For more information about Alchemy and to view some of our other laptop systems check us out at www.alchemy-computers.com Alax

Looks good, but in the future... the angles of the transmission line in the box work much better when they aren't 90degree angles... Part of the tuning of any transmission line involes very much so the angles internally.

Desktops are coming online at www.alchemy-computers.com check them out!

I use Shizzon's methond and it helps a lot. Also add in Johnecon's approach to not broadcasting the SSID help s alot. Ultimately if someone really want's to get in... they will find a way to get in, but overall it's pretty secure so long as you limit the router and use the right sort of encryption for the wep key. There are other ways to make it more secure, but they are expensive and require code hopping technology.

mid 70s to early 80s 'vettes are surprisingly affordable, as far as classic cars go that is true, averaging from around $5k to $7500 depending upon options, shape, etc. but some are easily low 5 digit cars, with a few hitting even better. what ticks me off is that goon that owns them, and of course, what he thinks they are worth, lol. plus since i don't own any corvette, it just really ticks me off he has 3. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Yeah, but ur truck is worth more than all three of them lol

Grats on the system and the stable OC... I love OC'ing systems. I have an AMD 5200+ right now running at 3.01ghz on air cooling. It's a pretty nice setup, but it's time has passed and I'm selling a few of the majorcomponents in it now. My new system is based on the new AM2+ Asus motherboard with an AMD 6400+ black edition processor. Going to be using a Zalman 9700nt heat sink for this monster and gonna clock the hell out of it. (base performance on this one is 3.2ghz) Pair it up with a couple of 8800GT cards and 4gb of Corsair XMS ram and call it a day. I recall my first system build being an old 333mhz celeron system. It was pretty hardcore for the day... (I think in '96-'97 or so). A big step up from the old 75mhz HP system I had bought a couple of years earlier. I've been doing it since and it's spawned into more than a hobby I now own a small boutique computer line. Hard to recall back in the day dreaming of 1tb of storage space ever being a "requirement" in one of my computers back then, let alone running at over 1ghz on the processor, let alone 3.2ghz.... Ahhh back in the good ol days

The Samsung 1tb is a really nice drive. If not I'd go with that 750gb drive. I have one myself and well... ok it's geting full soon, but nothing a second drive can't fix. -

First, combining those three drives to total 750gb would not be putting it in a RAID configuration. If you are looking for a raid solution for data security purposes you need either 2 or 4 identical drives.Running a RAID configuration can do one of three things. It can provide data security, but both drives act as one and you do not receive any benefit of additional storage space. Second it can increase performance of the drives by querying for data from two separate drives simultaneously. Third, it can do both of those together, but you need 4 drives for that configuration. RAID-0 (performance) RAID-1 (Security) RAID-5 (Security and Storage) *quick edit here... RAID-5 can be run with 3 identical drives, but you will only see the size of one drive Increasing your RAM is fine, but if you are going to increase to 4gb and want your computer to recognize that you would need to switch to Windows Vista Ultimate. If you are going to keep Windows XP though, I would recommend going with just 2gb of RAM and getting a higher performance memory type run in a dual chanel configuration. This will give your system a better performance than the stock Dell memory. I'd recommend personall something from the Corsair XMS line or OCZ Platinum. Samsung has by far the best monitors for the money that I've tested. Look at the Samsung 226BW for a 22" solution. Newegg.com normally has them for around $320 or so and provides an instant and mail in rebate normally. For a 20" solution the Samsung 204BW is a very nice monitor and is usually in stock at newegg as well for around $260. I've used both of these monitors on systems that I have myself and recently even upgraded to a 32" monitor (because I was using two 19" screens I went with one nice screen instead) All that I use personally in systems is the Samsung brand though since they are great looking monitors and at an affordable price in compare to many others. If you are looking for massive storage space though and want to get about 750GB or so. I would recommend spending the money for one single drive. There are many out there with varying cache I would recommend either a Seagate or Samsung 750GB drive which can be bought for around $165-$200. They have 32mb of cache and are great drives for the money. Going with a few cheap drives isn't much for a solution and you get an actual warranty with either of the above drives, from reputable manufacturers. -
Me drunk? Nawww I don't drink no more...... no less either... lol weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeMrray is ghey

We are currently offering a promotion program right now. More of a referal program. If you refer people that purchase a laptop and mention your name you will recieve $25 for our low end systems and $50 for a high end laptop. With this referal program you can put it "in the bank" so to speak and save up referal cash towards a system. So if you do know anyone that is interested in any of our systems and you refer them to us and they buy a system we with your contact information as the referal then we will either apply credit towards your purchase or send you a check for the referal. Using this system it is possible to earn enough to get a free laptop. As for gaming on a laptop system. I do it all the time sitting on the sofa using a trackball mouse and it's rather comfy. More so even than sitting at the desk in front of a cpl of 20" HD lcd screens. That and it makes for great LAN gaming.

well it was either us, the street, or her fellow speed freaks. Figured getting her out of cali and in a more stable environment would be better. Kinda wish I had let her choose one of the other options. Ohh well, at least she's a good babysitter and maid most of the time. Shoulda left her w/ the speed freaks... of course ur g/f my have left u for that one... lol
