amp clipping
bristabrock replied to bristabrock's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
well i know a way i could use a oscilliscope, and i believe i can hear distortion fairly good, because i always find myself getting aggravated when i hear that all too famous un-natural sound, and thanks it did answer my question -
ok i really hate to ask this, but how are you able to tell when your amp starts to "clip"? And what exactly does it mean?
-
stetson amplifiers.

are you sure it was 4 of them? if im not mistaken i believe its 3 running him 21000 watts, but then i can be wrong -
welcome from lafayette!!!!! UL!!! just kidding, i love LSU
-
i want that poster!!!!!!!! and the number too!!! but i cant really help you with your desision, as i havent tried or heard either, but im planning on getting a pair of xcon's, also, why wouldnt you be able to make a sq system with a wall?
-
haha i live in lafayette louisiana so i know EXACTLY what you are talking about, is there any possible chance i would be able to hear that woofer by thy way, it would really make my day
-
Ok I'll make sure that it is, and those are beautiful door panels also, what about the way i was thinking of mounting my 4"s?
-
I was thinking of putting 6.5"s in my door panels, some 4"s in a sealed console i would have to make to go right under the dash in the middle, and some 1" tweeters in my A-pillars. Or possible put both the 6.5" and 4"s in the door panels. My tastes go from jazz, blues, and classical, to metal. Mostly progressive rock like Tool, Opeth, Mastodon, A Perfect Circle, stuff like that. I also plan on running this system passive since its going to be my first real system, i figured it would be easier to deal with and learn. My goal is to try to reproduce the studio quality of the recording as best as I can. I plan on also running a pair of SSA XCON's, either 15"s or 18"s, running off of a pair of Sundown 2000s or a 3000. Not too sure on the amps for the components, I was thinking maybe the new ZED amps when they come out like the 6 channel one. If theres anything else you need to know please let me know. Also I was thinking of putting a 8" woofer in a custom center console, would it be possible to make cross-overs and set a EQ to where the 8" and the big woofer wont interfere? Just a thought.
-
no ive never heard them, honestly ive never heard anything close to a sq system is a vehicle so im pretty hyped to make one in my vehicle, i just wanted to know if anyone ever had any experience with them since they look like a pretty decent choice from what ive only seen on the internet
-
ive been looking at cdt mids and tweeters lately, specifically the hd-642 set, has anyone has anyone had any experience with this brand, or better yet this series, and whats your review if so
-
also, would the new ZED amps be able to run active if chosen? i love the idea of running their new 6 channel
-
ok, if were to choose to run active, what are good tweets, and mids to get, and if i were to run passive what would be other good component sets to get besides the SPX-17PRO's? Also what are some good sq 8"s or 7"s?
-
if i would keep the headunit i have now would i thenhave to purchase a active cross-over to run it active, and also are there any differences with running the active cross-over through the head unit compared to through a seperate active cross-over?
-
well in that case if i would choose to run active later with a different head unit, could i just buy the speakers and amp now and then just get a active crossover and different head unit later and run with the same speakers and amp?
