Thanks that helps me a lot... now someone told me that i should set my LHP around the same Hz as my box. What would that do? nope they were probably talking about your ssf (subsonic filter- this ensures that you dont kill ur sub with freq below port tuning) like he said set your lpf..low pass filter to somewhere blow 100hz i set mine around 100 since you your sub to play bass in its range a sub's normally 20 - 100 , its all preference set it to where your music's enjoyable..btw ..do you knw how to set ur gains ??
-
Fi as i've seen = #1 customer service
-
yeah... would think a drop..but you wouldn't do that to your Fi baby
-
ye but it would be good for people who dont know how to balance gains , might give em a warning rather than a lesson in burnt coils...no one assumes accidental clipping..hell..even distortion gnna kill a sub..but i guess a fuse can't stop that..:/
-
hope we can get a couple possibilities..im kinda stumped***
-
Umm..tune the amp?...u mean simply set it..first of all check if everything's working.then set everything flat no eq's no bass boost and gain down low.the only reason you got smoked is probably bad wiring( got ya coils mixed up) , clipping the amp or maybe amp failure(dnt think so). you're using a sub so you want to set the switch to low pass and you can control the cutoff freq from the low pass knob ,you can set that to around 100 hz or so.you also want to set your gains providing the coil isnt locked up......
-
what happened to it?....
-
i know *think* that an amp sends varying power to the sub depending on freq and amplitude..well what if some one overdoes it and clips the amp significantly boosting the output..couldn't a fuse prevent that?.....not that i would ever want to since ive only killed woofers by mechanical failure *deliberate free air woofer porn *

well..to start off,my friend bought polk rti 10's and a polk psw sub..and hes not pleased with it in terms of how muddy it was ,when he heard a jl w1 12 in the same room it sounded pretty amazing comparatively,so after hearing my plans for 2 Qs in my he decided on getting a fi 15 ssd after reading a couple reviews and its low power requirements,however...hes got some questions...whats a good amplifier(home) that can drive it pretty well-and not burst wallets(lol),and umm can it be bi-amped ?which i did not recommend *just asking for the hell of it*..i have a couple questions bout his car system plans ..but ill leave it for later..all help will be greatly appreciated ..thanks all.
-
oh ok..ive always heard bad things bout bi amping but um thanks...yeah i saw dayton plate amps but rackmount??..never seen em..thanks anyways ill check em out.crown's a bit pricey but how much watts do you recommend for a med sized room ..say 16 x 20

all i have to say bout this thread...constructive criticism is a good thing, maybe before buying everything ,*a plan would be nice, some research..u know, for all you know 2 15's may have suited your application and get louder than four..who knows a well planned person..may *stunt* you out with a couple 12 \'s or 10's knowing that they perform better in smaller enclosures rather than choking the btl's..
