Just recieved the DCON- Initial impressions

Haha, ok i'll get a few up tomorrow. I left the camera out in the car You will be really happy with yours, i am shocked how well it performs out of the box and with low power. One thing i want to do is get a better amp to run it. The MTX 81000d i have it on really isn't "SQ" oriented, with a 2% THD @ rated power, lol. I am thinking of picking up a Zapco 500.1 to throw on it. I know the suspension is still stiff but with ~300ish from the MTX it doesn't seem to be anywhere near approaching mechanical limits. This is my first time in a while running so little power and honestly there is no discernible loss in output over the RF T2 10" i had in there is a sealed box before. Now i know it has the advantage in cone area but the RF was an SPL oriented driver and it was getting probably 1200 watts @ 2 ohms. So, no dimming lights now, comparable output, and much better sound is a good deal imo -
half octave is closer but well said. PS, i hope your username is in reference to New Jack City and not that whiny brat "Lil Weazel"

You know what? It's time i make the switch. I've been wanting to try out your products and this is too good of a price to pass up. Put me down for one

Even though his actions and business practices seem to be questionable, i love the fact that he has all kinds of weird obscure crap that you rarely come across elsewhere. I think i would give him the benefit of the doubt, but at the same time i dunno about subs he is building himself, especially when it is a well know fact that he had a stockpile of demagnetized motor assemblies a while back that he got by accident and people were getting subs that were basically paperweights. I would take the chance on a couple of those D7152 Boards though

The CVX is actually a very nice sub
-
If you want a tight, clean sub that plays equally well down in the 20's as it does at 50 look no further than the Icon. It confused me at first because it was so linear, there was like no discernible drop off into the lower range, and that was wasn't even with an optimally sized box and only with the 10's

What is a good amp to power my 15" Rockford Fosgate t1 1200 watt
manbeer replied to holmesjohnson's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
After an hour of hard playtime, my coils would get so hot that touching the cone would burn you. You have to realize, i drive 1000 miles a week, with at least 2x, 2 way trips of over 100 mile strecthes each way, so i am talking about extended, daily usage at 1200 watts. Most of the time by myself, so i kept the volume relatively high for hours on end with no relief -

Get a refurb rockford T3002 and run it at 2 ohms bridged. You can find them floating around for about 150 shipped and they will put out a solid 800 watts into a 2 ohm load. The T1 does NOT handle 1200 watts rms. I can tell you right now that even my T2 could barely handle that kind of power in a daily app http://cgi.ebay.com/ROCKFORD-FOSGATE-300W-...1QQcmdZViewItem For the money, you can not beat these -
nice setup, better get some electrical upgrades done ASAP though. we put a BX1500 (@2ohms also) in my friends '72 BMW Bavaria a few years back and literally a week later the alternator went, then the voltage regulator, then a couple batteries, then the amp cooked (from low voltage i am assuming) With 2 12" Kappa Perfects In 4 cubes tuned to 35hz it was crazy loud for a short amount of time though

Jack Meower, AKA Mr. Jackson

That is stupid. No it doesn't. The only thing you need to do is make sure your install is okay. Other than that you CANNOT hurt your sub by playing it full bore right away. It will break in faster the louder you play it. The "need" to break it in is a crappy internet wives tale. Please stop propagating nonsense. OUCH! way to make me feel like a jakcalope

I was curious to see what the results would be if i were to put luxury liner under the carpet from the uppermost front footwell area up to the rear of the car. I am sure i would see a noticeable drop in road noise but but would it increase the "plushness" of the carpet? That is part of what i am looking for as the G35 floor doesn't have the plush and luxurious feel i would like. On that topic, since i am running 245/35/20 and 275/20/20's the road noise is unbearable. Would it make sense to remove the wheel arch linings up front where i notice the most noise and coat them in spectrum sludge or should i pursue a different route in trying to eliminate it, possibly just adding more deadener in the cabin?

I play it at moderate volumes for as long as possible before really leaning into it. I'll still turn it up loud right out of the box, just not for extended periods

10" SSA DCON Subwoofer abusing a trunk lid (video)
manbeer replied to Mark LaFountain's topic in Sound Solutions Audio (SSA®)
Wow! That looks like even more output and excursion than i would have expected. I'm pumped! I may have the opportunity to get the 12 metered for you guys in a few weeks. Keeping my finger crossed Nice to see a sub with that kind of oomph that doesn't need an obscene amount of power going to it. Maybe now it's time to switch over to a class AB amp for the lows which i would prefer anyway. -
4 ohm SVC? Those amps are a LOT of power for those subs. If they are 4 ohm SVC you will be running them @ 1.33 ohms in parallel. An SAE-1200d would be ideal for them. That will give you more than enough headroom

Looks nice This is getting me excited. Wednesday is looking to be the big day, and this is pretty similar to what i have planned, just in a 10" How much port area is that?
-
Since you mentioned that you have a hard time getting rid of MTX, would it be more worthwhile to pursue the unloading of my modded 81000d on my own? I am interested in these SAZ-2k's. Any more specs, dimensions and gut shots? i want to mount with the guts exposed so sexy internals are a big plus. As ugly as the MTX is on the outside, it looks very nice exposed

I would go for 2 pairs of mids before 2 pairs of tweeters. dual 6.5's and a tweeter per channel would work nicely, maybe a pair of peerless 830946 series wired for an 8 ohm load, combined with an 8 ohm tweeter wired in parallel or something. You would have to figure out a passive x-over though, probably easier to figure out something active OR you could grab 2 pairs of those Mpyres that are floating around on ebay which come with passive x-overs and try to find a nice low playing tweeter to match up
-
When i got this back there were so many pieces that were either missing or improperly fitted. i put a lot of time into redoing this properly and am finally happy with the result. I will post some new pics when i decide on the new dome mids. I am so torn between Dyn MD140's, or Dayton RS52's, especially when the daytons seem to handle the lower stuff better. Also the MB Quart 2" ti domes are a possibility as well, i found some more NOS of those and they play down to 500 nicely

Guy came on to out local G35 forums who owns a custom shop and wants to swap with stock to return the car at the end of his lease. I took a look and luckily i called him before anyone else got a chance to. We are making the trade tomorrow, check it out on his website: http://meofny.com/projects.php?meid=73

Looks GREAT, now we need a shot with the XCON -
I am just curious since i always here people say that they notice a difference in sound at lower impedance, if 2 ohms will make a noticeable difference in my setup. I currently (and temporarily) am running an MTX 81000d which is rated at 1000w into 2 ohm load. I modified it to run at lower impedance but don't really plan on it. Do you think that there will be a major discernible difference between me running it at 2 or 4 ohms? Will it be as dramatic as an am with rated minimum impedance of 1 ohm running at 1 vs. 4. Just curious because where mine is rated at 2 minimum, i didn't know if it would have the same adverse effect as minimum impedance on something capable of lower impedance loads due to lowered damping factor and higher THD, etc or if it will be less dramatic since i am still only halving it from 4 ohms. Sorry if this is confusing, i had trouble wording it

if many people are not satisfied with the sound of speakers at lower i
manbeer replied to manbeer's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
^ i was thinking the same, that it was due to voltage drop in addition to those other factors. assuming that damping factor and THD were a linear change, than technically i would still have better results @ 2ohms than a 1ohm stable amp run @ 1 i would think
