    Port up or back

but if the box is built with the sub and port off axis then aiming it differently will change a lot. ive seen a few setups in suvs and hatches with sub and port up, and of course lots with sub up and port back. the box in my blazer now has about 4" between the port openings and the tailgate, ive been playing with making the space bigger and smaller but it seems best with 5-6"

So lets see how this goes. Dont have it all done now but more will be installed as time goes by and money comes into hand. 15" Mayhem with D1 gaps. AQ2200D Box in the first and second stage. Alpine CDA-9886(looked to cool like this to post a pic with the flash on) Im actually considering going back to my Panasonic CQ-7303U for the extra settings and motorized faceplate.

Nope, no port noise. Ive run into another problem, setting gains with a DMM is kicking my ass. With a 60hz tone at 3/4 volume the sub out on my amp is reading only 5.3V~, but from math I see that it should be like 31-3V~?

I was going to up the box size to 5 cubes and use four 4". Id say its now is about 4.25 cubes. The bigger box plan of 5 cubes with four 4" gives a pretty flat response, Im having some issues with tuning 5 cubes to 31hz with either four 4" or two 6", they both end up just a tad to long for what i can fit with doing it sub up port back.

    Bad box woes.

So Ive got what looked like a decent box on paper (BBP6) but once built is quite depressing and seems to be choking the sub. It sounds decent but just leaves the thought that so much more could be gotten from it, but Im not all that great with designing boxes, every now and then a good one pops up. Another member gave me the idea to build the box in a way that the sub would angle some to fire more towards the rear glass and have the port fire back, if anyone is willing to toss in some input or maybe help with a design that would be greatly appreciated. Space to work with is 17.5" tall, 24" deep, and if possible 28" wide but could get up to 36" wide if I relocate the spare. Looking for a low tune, like 32~hz about good? Sub is a 15" D1 Mayhem with power coming from an AQ2200D, more power to come after the new year when I can hopefully get a better paying job rather than just scraping by. Sorry for such long post, its late and havent slept yet, so there is much on the brain. :EDIT: Forgot to post little pic of what im working with now. The bad box. And the fun maker.

Why keep three instead of going to 4 with the increase in box volume? With putting the numbers into bassbox I get, the same cone displacement but the added possibilty of port noise. Im not building another box til Ive got money to play with again so some nice PSP flared may just get used then.

Holy crap, can I be on your team? Its like audio has become an abstract art form, I like it.
  9. I have this HU as well as the Alpine in my truck now and liked the panasonic quite a bit more. It was just 120$ at an audio store here and has a lot more settings built in.

Like it a lot, it makes plenty power and doesn't even get warm with the .5ohm its seeing. The gain is still set low for the sake of my electrical, waiting on my second battery since I get voltage drop long before distortion.

Try to get some vids tomorow, probably can get a good lil bit of movement from a shirt. Hopefully the next box will be even better.

Huge difference, a lot louder and it actually flexs my truck now, vids to come when the chance arrives. Those are 4" tuned to 32~ since Im unsure of the actual box volume now.

    question about extra battery

I would say just a redtop under your hood. They have a faster recharge rate so even with a small alt it should keep a nice charge.

Good point. Now if only I could get ladies because of the bass... Perhaps the seat flex could do something special

    Bad box woes.

OK, so today was fun and now my truck is a little louder. The box started off looking like it did in my first post, and now it looks like. But to get there it had to look like. This box isnt permanent but just an experiment that turned out good, nice pretty box to come... Well whenever I get around to it.

its already been determined that tomorow im gonna frankenstein my current box to experiment with. if i use one 6'' i get a tad more cone movement and a lot mor vent airspeed. Didnt do the calculations to use three 4'', ive done two boxes before using round ports but this is the first one im doing a lot of work to try and get right for the fact of seeing what i can do and learning a good bit.

    Bad box woes.

So the idea of getting a smaller spare and relocating it will be done, now I can have lots and lots of room to attempt this odd shaped box with a full 5 cubes of space for the sub. Can go up to 19" tall, 24" deep still leaves room on back of the box for amps or a few of the smaller batterys later on, 35" wide is easy, maybe even a little more but havent been able to measure. Does anyone think this is actually a good idea to have the sub fire back on an angle like that or would it just look neat? Does the 12-16" of port per cube apply for round ports aswell?

    Bad box woes.

Juslivin, thats like exactly what i was talking about with it aiming at the back glass with port back still. Might have to wait til after christmas to build a new box the closest Ive got to spare cash right now is a 50$ Wal Mart gift card. Anyone else like that angled sub idea? Would someone be willing to help design that? Also, little question about ports, would round ports be a possibility for this? and is one big one or two smaller ports better? I listen to a lot of music but like to keep the tuning low usually. Thx

    Bad box woes.

The box now is 17.5 tall 28 wide and 24 deep, port is 3.75 wide. The port length was supposed to be 25, but I effed up when building it so its longer by probably a few inchs (havent measured since realizing this). I say its choking it but that may be the wrong word for this, it just doesnt move nearly as much as some vids of them and BTLs do on the same or even less power. The sub is stiffer than my friends fully loaded BTL was, but I should still have enough power to get it moving good. Thx for those measurements Memphis, but to do 28 deep the port opening would be really close to the tailgate, is that fine or would it have to be arranged for sub and port to fire up?

    About that roof?

Guess I'll just have to find out, be careful with it for a few days after the install to keep an eye on it. Its just gonna be one 15, but the blazers get some bad flex in the roof.

    About that roof?

Got stuck with another moonroof when I got my new truck(2001 blazer) wondering if anyone else has had any problems with the roof after having bass for awhile, ie not opening/ closing or no longer making a seal? I had one in my old car and it wasn't the same when I got rid of it as when I got it but figured that's jsut because it was a piece of chit Saturn.
