6 15" Obsidian's and 10k......the rebuild!
audioarsonal replied to audioarsonal's topic in Build Logs
You will notice that they cover a broad spectrum of sound from a distance. It doesn't have a ton of power like most(~30 watts per channel) and it sounds amazing! It pairs well with the sub stage and with the addition of the 5 1/4's now going behind the head it should sound even better, having a bit of rear fill to compensate under heavy bass notes. Also centering up the the staging a bit more. -

So its been a while since I updated things. I have been working hard trying to get it all done by Slamology. Its been tough with as hot as its been and having to watch my son. But its moving along pretty good for just one person I think. I debated on the paint color a few times. Originally I wanted to paint it flat black with some copper color pin stripe. Well, I ended up changing it a bit cause I thought it would be to much black and not showcase the subs like I wanted. So, I found a copper orange color I like and sprayed the doors and box the same color. That should give a nice contrast with the CF vinyl I am using. I also added a couple 4" mids behind the head rests to give a little more rear fill to the vocals. I haven't got to hear them yet but the should be nice and loud:) So onto the pictures. Its just a couple to kinda give you an update were things are at. I will post completed pictures most likely after Slamology. Enjoy! -

Wattage ratings are a safety for those who don't know IMO. -
When they say "identical" they may be just referring to generic terms as far as intended use. And not actually mean identical make up. I don't know. But that is what the gentleman said to me. Either way Enersys is a great company and if the Diehard is just manufactured by them. Its still a BIG plus. We all know Odyssey,Stinger,Hawker are all bad ass batteries!
-
Well. I just called them and they confirmed they are the same battery. The Platinum line just has fewer models. The NDA only covers how the batteries are manufactured and what materials are used. There is no disclosure of anything "pertinent" by telling us they are identical batteries.

3-STEP CHARGE PROFILE INPUT – 120V, 60 Hz, single phase; current varies with model OUTPUT – Three-Step charge profile (see figure below) Bulk Phase – Fast charges the battery up to 14.7V and gets the battery to about 80% state of charge Absorption Phase – Finishes off the charge in no more than an additional 4 to 6 hours after completion of bulk charge Float Charge – Continuous trickle charge will keep the battery topped off and ready to go

Actually AGM does require a special charger. Hence the reason the make and AGM setting on most nowadays. They should not be charged any higher the 2.4vpc or 14.7v max. Anything higher 15v+ you risk damage to the battery. Alternators are not meant as battery chargers only maintainers. It is a good practice to charge your batteries ~1 a month if you take short trips(15-20 min) along with heavy listening of the system.

I don't mean to bust any bubbles here, but this information is false. I worked for Sears and have personally seen the Die Hard lab. They design their own batteries, but they do use off the shelf parts such as cases, posts, tops, etc. . . Saves on cost and is easy for the manufacturer to use similar parts between brands. As to the post above, Sears has an NDA with ALL of their manufacturers. There is not a chance in hell, unless someone does not care about their job or is out to screw their company, that this information would be posted in a public place. Doing so, would be subject to damages probably equal to that of said company's worth. They are pretty good batts though. And I would reply with this... "Here is the press release for Sears/Enersys. EnerSys Signs Multi-Year Contract to Provide Sears Holdings With Long-Life DieHard® Platinum BatteriesREADING, Pa. and HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EnerSys (NYSE: ENS), the world's largest manufacturer, marketer and distributor of industrial batteries, today announced it has signed a multi- year contract with Sears Holdings (Nasdaq: SHLD) to manufacture and supply Sears with a newly categorized DieHard Platinum branded battery for aftermarket automotive and marine applications. DieHard is America's most preferred automotive battery, among those stating a preference. Beginning in March, 2007, Sears Auto Centers will be the exclusive distribution channel for DieHard Platinum batteries. "By working with EnerSys on the new DieHard Platinum battery, we continue the legacy of innovation that was established with the original DieHard battery 40 years ago," said Rick Sawyer, vice president/general merchandise manager of Sears Auto Centers. "We're confident this new battery will live up to the DieHard brand name and that users will be pleased with its performance. These premium-grade batteries are designed for a longer life than traditional batteries, offer increased levels of safe operation, can withstand extreme heat and cold, and are durable for consumer automotive/marine applications. The DieHard Platinum battery will offer proven vibration resistance to the consumer market. The new DieHard Platinum batteries have up to 28% more Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) than comparatively sized spiral Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries providing much more starting power to automobiles and boats, along with unmatched reserved capacity. These thin-plate pure-lead batteries will carry DieHard batteries' best-ever, free replacement warranty. See your local Sears store for written warranty details. "We're thrilled to provide this high-end, durable DieHard Platinum version to consumers," said John Craig, chairman, president and chief executive officer of EnerSys. "This partnership represents a great opportunity for more users to benefit from our pure-lead technology products." The DieHard Platinum batteries are manufactured in EnerSys' U.S. manufacturing facility in Warrensburg, Mo, where the first DieHard Platinum came off the production line today. They have a valve-regulated design that allows them to be installed in any orientation, except inverted, without spilling and the U.S. Department of Transportation has classified them as non- spillable for safe shipping. For more information, contact Richard Zuidema, Executive Vice President, EnerSys, P.O. Box 14145, Reading, PA 19612-4145. Tel: 800/538-3627; Web site: EnerSys Home." And a link to the original doc http://www.searshold...2-28-0004536634 The DieHard Platinum batteries are manufactured in EnerSys' U.S. manufacturing facility in Warrensburg, Mo, So it seems you may have visited the OLD plant. But Enersys is the sole provider of the Diehard line sold exclusively by Sears.

David: That is a very astute observation. We private label the Sears DieHard Platinum batteries and they are rebadged Odyssey batteries. Thanks. I hear ya. I don't know how they can still charge what they do after all this time. The XP's seem to be a great deal. But they just dropped, so I haven't seen much real world results. However it is XS we are talking about. And don't you have the removable top? That should make things cake for changing out the subs.
-
Personally I think you would see a nice gain switching out the Optima's for a battery better geared to your demands. The spiral cell design and internals of the battery limit its current supply in our application. I have personally seen several people gain considerably from a direct swap with fewer batteries.

Could be. But double power+4th is double the trouble....LOL I think for 2 7k's you should be fine with 12 batteries. What kind are they? I'm gonna be adding 8-10 d1000's to the 6 HC16v's I have now. Should see a nice little increase in power with that. May pick up a couple of the BM's for the girls ride too.

Get yourself a beach ball!

Tough to say. 4th order's are known to tear subs up though. Usually like you had before, blowing surrounds, or at the TJ like you said. Looks violent for sure! My jeep falls on its face sealed up but loves the doors open. I don't play much slowed music. Decaf is usually what is playing in my ride. He doesn't do the slowed music just extended bass. I'm loving the 5k's though! May have to grab one more. You here back from em yet?
-
Good stuff! Shits starting to break:D Does it not like doors open? I see you had the window's just cracked a bit. And what happened to the sub this time? Surround blow out again or was it thermal failure? Seems the ZCON's are beast in your ride for sure!

I think the logo will be just the Q you see on the home page.

my alt. pretty much exploded today.....

Like Shizz said. You probably lost s few diodes and were not running on full capacity like you thought. Causing more stress on the battery then normal. Along with the limited current available to maintain the battery. A weak battery can be just as much a load as 1/2 the vehicle sometimes exceeding 20a of draw. I lost a diode a few months back. Thing sounded like one of the round blow whistles that kids use to have back in the day. Along with a poof of smoke and the alt was toast. -

Its a loss for sure. Glad he is still sticking around though! -
You done with ESL Nick? If I were looking I would go with the DD M4a, AB1100.1, or the DC12k. The IA 40.1 is a beast but almost a lateral step from were you are at. Personally I would steer clear of SD or Stetsom. But that is just a personal opinion. Do you plan to upgrade the electrical as well?

He says he will still be part of the scene. He will just have more time to mingle now:) -
He is possible situations that would cause that to happen. 1) you were clipping the signal. 2) loose connection. 3) frayed wires touching. Those are generally what will cause enough heat to melt plastic. What size speaker wire are you using?

Guess I can update everyone with a few pictures of the new power as well. :runaround: -
No. The wall moves you to a different class. Great job Nick. SSA and ESL did it big!
