watts vs. true watts
Duran replied to bristabrock's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
well, i just think its kind of messed up for those people who are trieng to get into this stuff more, and for consumers all together, i mean isnt it illegal, like false advertisement You'd be surprised what people/companies will do for money. If the amp is not CEA compliant there is not an outside party testing the output, they can stamp on any number that pops into their head and call it good. If someone were to test it and call the company, they will say to send it in and claim it is faulty and most likely send you the same one back....You are still screwed, don't waste your time with unknown amps. -
Unless you are throwing ridiculous power at that thing, I'd make the .35 box bigger. Closer to the .6 rec'd size... Ficar lists .2 to .6 cuft for the Q10 in a sealed configuration. I wasn't sure which way to go so I e-mailed them. Scott recomended .35 cuft net with .25 lbs of polyfill for some reason for SQ. I'll have 1000 watts available. Does that sound about right? 1000w is near ridiculous power...if you are truly after an SQ setup you can leave your gains on off in which case I'd go bigger with the box, but taking Scott's recommendation is logical as I have not played with that 10. Also, the polyfill will help. What am I saying? If you are going to gain up the amp keep it that size. X2. Personally, I think that 1K watts is too much for an SQ setup...

Ok. I will just break it all down as far as the low end. I have an 89' dodge conversion van. I build systems so I decided to take it a bit further. I have welded up my own platform and removed the backseat completely. The platform is design to hold all the speakers amps and batteries while providing room underneath for my tools. I am planning on running a dual 300amp alt setup or one if I don't have room. I will be using 3 Kinetik HC2400's and a HC1400 under the hood. I may also run a cap. I will have plenty runs of 0 gauge wire. If for some strange reason I am not able to run a stetsom a couple of guys at the comp told me to go with 2 SAZ 3000D's. I also am able to a couple of refurbished viper amps. Big 3 will be done plus the platform is bolted to the floor which also has a few ground wires connected to it from the frame. Sorry, I am really insecure about grounding. I feel their is never too much. I also will have a digital bass processor just for fun. I don't plan to run any bass boost off of the amp. As for the speakers I have heard neither. That why I am asking for help. I have heard from some people lately that sundown amps are not all they claim to be. I saw the sundowns amp in action at the comp also. What do you mean Sundown amps are not what they claim to be? What have you heard?

Are you trying to be funny? Last time I checked it wasn't April 1st buddy.

Nope, different magnets. ONLY the BL magnets are out of stock, they still have BTL mags
-
Oh do explain. Ive never heard of either.

Well its a VERY sensitive issue, under controlled testing, with the exact same power, and with the same box(proportionately) the larger sub will be "louder" i know it is.. thats why i didnt say that you were wrong or that that is not true... only that I disagree. but if you use the same sub and the same power in a test then yes the 18 would prolly be louder.. but like you said... apples and limons. Yeah, I feel the same way. It shouldn't be like that but it is. I wasn't arguing with you bigjon, I disagree with it too, but we cant change physics!

Okay, your friend is partially right. An 18" will be "louder" than a 15" with the same amount of power because it has more cone area to move more air. But you are comparing apples and oranges. The BL will HANDLE more power, that means you can give it more power and that will make up for the lack of cone area.

Damn you have some mad skills BJ, its looking really great! I will be watching this log...

you get what you pay for tho. Rockfordfosgate may cost more but its better quailty. a statment from a man that does not own sundown...... He probably does not own either... i have a t2000. and my brother has 2 t4000. so get at me. That's cool to have Rockford, way to jump on the bandwagon. But do you have Sundown?
-
What does it peak at?

^^^That is VERY common with square subs due to the geometry of the cone...I think they should rename them Kicker MF's(mechanical failure)
-
Uhhh, who in the hell even mentioned Hifonics to you? Smack them across the face for me will you?
-
^^^X2! There is nothing worse than public toilet paper, the stuff in those HUGE rolls that are super cheap...Oh and about those subs, NO! You could buy a quality product and have it last 5 years vs. buy a cheap-o product and have it last 5 minutes.

I didn't know DD made 6.5's...

DCR=Direct Current Resistance

Whatever you do, do NOT put that ICON is a prefab box. Boxes aren't hard, there are plenty of guys that will gladly help you with the designs.

Someone has his panties up in a bunch...What an ass

Trupan Light, its lighter and easier on his tools than MDF, but more expensive.
