When you remove the negative cable from the battery you don't have a complete circuit, then there is still a complete circuit (like when the negative cable is still connected to the battery) and you remove the ground wire, obviously you don't have a complete circuit anymore, but you are just asking for a blown amp. The SSD's would most likely choke in that enclosure, making them sound like poo. In a better enclosure actually made for the SSD's they would most likely be louder.

53' is minimum for an 18" BTL, if you want louder build a bigger enclosure.
