Biggest and baddest are positive qualities, power hungry is a negative quality, it means inefficiency. What you mean to say is high thermal power handling. Your question is really too installation and enclosure dependent to answer correctly.

The reason the 8"s are so popular is they have been VERY well designed, the only difference between the 8", 10", and 12" is cone area. They use the exact same motors.
