3/4" MDF, Lots of titebond or the wood clue of your choice, and 1 5/8" drywall screws is what i have used on every one of mine.

Specific tuning can still be achieved based on the length and diameter and number of the aero ports. I am going through this same problem with my soloX. I had a guy over on ca.com help me with a program to see how many, what size, and length. It changes with box volume and driver displacement etc.

it works well but i usually just go around the joints with some wood glue and let it sit overnight.

First post, but i do have more on ca.com. Just wanted to see if anyone could help me out over here. Well i just installed my soloX 10" into a new box today 2 cubes at 32hz and i am having some issues. It hits the lows real good now, which is why i changed the box, but when it hits a high note (such as the high note in young jeezy: hypnotize) it seems as though the sub is sucking in instead of hitting out, almost like the pos/neg is reversed. I have checked the wires 3 times and all is fine there. Also, when it is sucking in it makes a terrible slapping sound like the cone is bottoming out. What gets me is i didnt have any trouble out of it when it was in the last box ( 2.5 cubes at 40 something hz) so i dont know what could be causing it to do this all of the sudden. It has been suggested that the box is too small but this was the size box and tuning several people advised me to go with for daily listening. Please let me know what is wrong here so i can figure out what i need to do. Thanks. Thomas

I also have another box out in the barn that is a little over 2 cubes sealed for 2 12" subs. Right now it has a port in one of the holes turning it into a single 12" ported at about 30hz. (had a treo SSI in it b4). Are there any 12" subs that would take the power with a cube appiece sealed? or a 12" sub that could take the power at 30hz tuning and 2 cubes of space?

anything special with the aero's? i have never used them before, anything in particular i should know about the instalation of them? Also, are we talking 2 4" full length? thanks for all the replies guys i really appreciate the help!

cant get anywhere close to that airspace between the seats in my reg. cab chevy.

I have the Atomic 3000.1 that does 3200 watts at 1ohm and i am told will do around 4000 at a 1/2ohm. I have a dry cell optical for the main battery, a 200a alternator, and a stinger sp800 to help with the atomic.
-
any suggestions on a daily driver that can handle 2000-4000 watts in 2 cubes?
-
also, dont know if this makes a diff. or not but in the old box the sub barely ever moved with 2000 watts on it i mean it would move a little at loud volumes but nothing like it is doing in this box....
-
almost sure the sound is coming from the sub. I have discussed with another member on ca.com that the cause may be not enough depth in the box for the amount of air the sub is moving. He suggest that pressure is building up behind the sub and the noise is from the cone getting slapped from the backside. this makes since as the sub only has about 12" from baffle to port wall for depth were as in the old box it was facing the back wall so it had all 33" of the box length to hit into....
-
I do not think that is how the sub is suppose to sound on any frequency of any part of the song. I mean this is a literal slaping sound coming from the center of the sub....

anybody??

Here is the video guys..... http://s199.photobucket.com/albums/aa312/5...nt=MVI_0659.flv Notice how it hits the low notes fine but when it hits that high note it looks like the surrounds sucks down and it makes that noise.....

thanks for the warm welcome guys!!

Hello, my name is Thomas and i am going to school at Oklahoma University. I am currently living in norman and am about to be a second year sophomore in the engineering department lol. I love everything about cars, the mechanical side and of course the audio side. Just here to watch and learn as i am sure there is a wealth of info to take in. Have a good one! Thomas

YAY!!!! video is 43% downloaded!!!!! I thought DSL was suppose to be fast???
-
as you will see once the video gets downloaded sometime tomorrow lol, is that unfortunately this is in a non-blow through 2002 reg. cab chevy pickup. Therefore i can not fit much more than 2.25-2.5 cubes between my front seats at the most. Sucks not to have room but can not afford to get anything else right now (college student) lol.
-
want to work out a trade? lol that is about where i am at with this right now. I need me a 10" that can take 2000-4000 in a 2 cube box in the 30's hz range and not cry about it lol.
-
Yes, i realize thats what it says it came with the sub. I just figured sometimes peoples personal experience can be better than going with the factory specs in a particular application. I may have to get a different driver if this is the case. I very much dislike that they want it tuned to 44hz. I think thats what the box was that i had b4 and i hated how it didnt hit the low notes at all.

As soon as this video finishes uploading(which is taking forever) you will see part of the box in the video. Is there a particular part of the box you want me to take pics of? and yes they said 2.5 was too small and they would do around 2 cubes at 32hz so that is what it is in now.
-
I believe the box is 2 cubes b4 displacement. I was told on ca.com that the 2.5 cubes was too small for the 10" and it was tuned to high (which i figured) and thats why i wasnt getting the low notes. Man it slams the lows in this box but then when it hits the high notes somethin aint right.

I will go make a vid right now. The amp is an Atomic 3000.1 running at 2 ohms now and sometimes i run it at 1/2 ohm for short periods of time. Hopefully the vid will capture the movement and the sound. Thanks for all the help with this guys.

Well the sucking is not a sound but more of the motion of the cone. When it hits a higher bass note the cone doesnt seem to hit out but rather hit or suck in. I have experienced this with the speaker wire being reversed but have triple checked that. It just amazes me that its the box after all the time that was spent figuring out what size and tuning and then building it then this lol. Sucks a Big one......Thanks for the reply though. Any suggestion for a remedy? i really cant go much bigger than this because it is in a reg. cab Chevy between the seats. Thanks.
