    laptop help!

I spend most of time on Dell's site, i recommend slickdeals.net to find a good deal on a Dell computer. For the requirements your looking for you can probably pick a sweet computer up from best buy, comp usa, etc. Like the earlier poster, they would have the best offer. If your not doing heavy coding or graphics work, the only thing you'll get with a Dell is a larger payment. [sorry for the two consecutive posts]

    laptop help!

Dell provides a nice comparison chart for their laptops. What are you trying to do with the laptop... ie Gaming, Work Related, etc?
  7. Couldn't agree more with KickinAudio's and Alaxan's comments!!
  8. Apple just released the new IMac G5 for those who are interested or who wanted to stay informed about what's going on in the computer world. www.apple.com (you can't miss it!) Offered in 17 inch and 20 inch versions 1.6 - 1.8 GHz I'll have to say it does look pretty slick... off the record: If you wanna buy I would attempt to purchase it through the Education store. You'll get a nice discount, but I don't know what kind of strings you have to pull $1200 - 1800 depending on your selected options

    Got scammed...

Horrible story, i was scammed before welcome to the club. At least you went through paypal and not wire (send money directly from the bank), western union, or money order. I tried to buy two motorcycles over the Internet 13k and 10k, well when u think you just lost 10k large to a scam u feel like sh** for a long time and then u do it again ... u feel eBay has hundreds of scammers online at all time and i believe they are begining to take advantage of weak security and more specific user groups. i wish u the best of luck, the ip address isn't going to be able to help too much. If u find the guy, i will gladly supply my a$$ kickin' supplies (fists, steel toe boot, and baseball bat) in person. Just to take out the anger i still harbor from my experience. moral of this story: Don't use wire, western union, or money order for large sums of cash and be weary of the internets "great" deals.

    Apple's New Imac

my apple IIc runs circles around my win2k box. I gotta say the monochrome 12 inch screen on the IIc is quite impressive. Also, security on the apple is much better considering the IIc does not have a true hard drive to store applications and runs on 5 1/4 floppies. The NSA would have trouble extracting any information. My processor speed runs somewhere in the 10 - 20 kilohertz. If your really think ur windows based pc can beat my IIc, your probably right... but its 100% custom with its missing 8 and 2 keys... WHAT!! I'll post some picks soon flaunting my apple.

    Hello

I guess I should announce my arrival to the ssaudio board... sup kids... Denim got ahold of me and told me he could use some help on the Computers section of the site. I guess I should provide some background information to justify my existence... I pimp a 2K4 civic ex, it is probably the only bone stock civic left on this earth. I'm looking to blast my Ace of Base cd with my stock 6x9's, but i don't know if they can handle that B-A-S-S bass. I push a 2K4 Harley-Davidson sportster, so no audio equipment can be added... Home audio is my specialty (3 subs, 8 mid ranges, and 5 tweeters all infinity speakers with Onkyo components... PUMP up da volume!)... I'm also a programmer/annalyst for balt. county poepoe and I've been heavily involved with computers for the past 7 years. I have a master's degree and bachelors degree from Villa Julie and Frostburg . You'll find me lurkin' around the computer section trying to help people out with their comp. problems... Not too much else going on... just the brief bio... have a good one...
  18. Service Pack 2 is an ugly beast. Microsoft has taken the stance that to avoid losing customers they must improve their security. SP2 definetly increases the security (until something new comes out to exploit it) but changes the default settings and the security of the kernal OS. However, due to the more drastic changes, compared to a simple update you get off of windowsupdate, the operating system's functionality changes. Long story short: + Don't download on anything less than DSL/Cable + Beware of the changes made to your system - common problems including those listed above - most likely: lost internet connectivity. !! - if this occurs I would uninstall SP2, cause it will be more trouble to fix than its worth (GOOD NEWS - at work we tried to upgrade on some test XP boxes, and ran into the same problem :thud: ) + If it works first time, let SP2 do its thang
  19. My two cents: First right click and try to save target as (ie explorer)... that we'll at least give you a hint to see if you can gain access to the file. Then check the file extension of the downloaded file. Second curse microsoft, b/c its the best thing to do in any situation I know Quicktime can be quite tempramental with Windows, (insert long stories here). Check your pop up blocker too.. those things can be a pain in the a$$ when you least expect them... if the save target as doesn't work... post again with your results &E
