    Hey from London, KY

Im surprised to see this many from KY.....I was expecting, um, none. All the people around here think Kicker L7's are the way to go and that its the best sounding stuff ever. I mean when I took a Polk sub to my local car audio dealer he was like, um what is this? I mean its Polk, I know theyre not as popular as other brands, but it could be considered a "mainstream" line, geez. Im just glad I found this site!

  4. OK, so first off I realize this a very redundant post, as I myself, even new to this forum have read several of these, and I apologize. So I currently have a 10" Polk Signature Reference series sub in a small (around 1-1.1 cubic feet, pre-fab) sealed enclosure with about 500 watts running to it from a Fosgate amp. So I've read numerous reviews on the Fi subs on here, in particular the SSD and the Q series. I am leaning towards an SSD series in a 12". Coming from the setup I have I want to know what kind of gains I will receive in terms of output stepping up to a SSD 12", or any 12" for that matter. I am still wanting to go with a small sealed enclosure, and from what I have read the SSD seems to excel in this type of enclosure. I am looking for more for of an SQ oriented setup, not an audiophile grade SQ setup (as I've seen some get flamed b/c they said they wanted an SQ set-up), its just that I am wanting to get a little more kick added to my kick drum if you know what I mean. I listen to pretty much 99 percent rock... Metallica, Skynyrd, Pink Floyd, Finger Eleven, Tool, etc... And I am also looking for a suggestion on a good amp to pair with this sub, in the $200-$300 price range, maybe more if that won't get me a decent amp. Thank you in advance for any replies and I must say there seem to be a lot of great people on this forum and a lot of people with a ton of knowledge about car audio, and I hope to gain some knowledge by listening to you guys.

New to forum, Coming from a Polk SR 10"

What I meant by audiophile SQ was that this is by no means a full on SQ setup that I have. I am positive that the box is well sealed, but as for the LP Xover, I haven't looked at it in soo long I honestly can't remember lol. As for the other speakers, the two in the doors are stock, and I replaced the rears with rockford fosgate 6x9's, a loooong time ago, all running of my pioneer HU's power. I guess a better way to phrase it is that I am lacking the "impact" I want and am looking for more. Sorry for being so general, and as if you couldn't already tell I know little to nothing about car audio, so go easy on me.

Are both of you running in a sealed setup or ported?

Yeah I love Tool, and my Polk SR stumbles a bit when playing it. I was thinking about buying a new amp to go along with it, maybe a Sundown. It seems like a lot of people have those and like them. Probably a SAE-1000D or the 1500D if it ever gets back in stock. As for my car, it will going in the trunk of a 1998 Monte Carlo.
