Dual 10" Icon / Exile Xi2500.1 (car has been stollen and stripped

Fantastic job! That is some amazing work, great craftsmanship indeed! -
I watched this earlier today and I can't help but wonder if this kid actually enjoys doing this or is he being forced into it by his parents?? Maybe to fulfill their goals for him or something? He should just be out being a kid, not weight training at such an early age. Just my opinion, maybe he likes it? But either way it seems a bit odd to me. Nevertheless, its impressive.

Who likes building Monster PCs?
Freebird replied to shizzzon's topic in Computers / Electronics / Music / Games
No, I'll admit I didnt read the whole thread lol. I just saw a thread about building PCs and was intrigued. Ive heard that Rampage II board is a good one and I probably should have used it in my build. But I went with an EVGA x58 board. What kind of air cooling system are you going to install? If you haven't heard of them you might want to check out Prolima Megahalem. Thats what is sitting on my i7 right now. I dont have a big overclock or nothing, but when running benchmark tests the cpu has yet to get over 30c. But of course my ambient room temp is fairly low as well which plays a big part I assume. But still its worth a look....if you can fit it in the case you choose to use. No those 285's weren't cheap! But the really sad part is they have already been bested by ATI with their new 5xxx series of graphics cards. But for most games out right now two of those cards is still overkill and I probly should have never bought two of them in the first place lol. 2011 may be when I have to build a new pc! Ive already seen rumors of 6 and 8 core processors from AMD and Intel over on tomshardware so it will be interesting to watch it all unfold in the next few years! -

Wow Shizzon you definitely have a monster in mind! Quad socket motherboard, that would be insane. I love to build computers, but I dont know if you would classify mine as a "monster" or not. I built it for mainly a gaming rig. It has a core i7 processor with a very conservative overclock from 2.6 to 3.2. 6 gigs of DDR3 ram and 2 EVGA GTX 285's for an SLI setup. I realize that SLI does not scale as well as Crossfire, but I wanted to go ahead and get it so I could play as long as possible without the need for upgrading. I would like to call it future-proofing, but really there is no such thing, especially with how fast the hardware industry advances. But I love to build computers and gaming is nice too. It would be interesting to see your originally proposed build, thats for sure! -
Well, many of you may know already, but MattB is an awesome guy to do business with. He was always great to communicate what was going on, and always replied promptly to any questions I had about the purchase. I am the one that profited from his misfortune, and was able to buy his RL-i 8's and memphis amp. I am sorry about his situation, and hope that he continues to protect his hearing, but on another note he made the transaction very smooth. And talk about packaging! He packed those subs and amp in a box that could have withstanded a 20 foot drop haha, excellent job! Anyone fortunate enough to do business with him in the future will not be disappointed! All around great guy, and super to deal with! Thanks Matt!

I have a bit of a delima. I am going to have two 8" subs and planned to put them in my truck, but I now realize I have quite a bit less space than first anticipated. My question is, would it be better to place one sub in more space, or to put both of them into quite a bit less space? The subs are soundsplinter rl-i8's, and I have about .72ft^3 total to work with. That would be about .28ft^3 per driver after displacement. Or I could put just one in about .64ft^3 after displacement. So which would produce more output, one with more space or two with less. I will be pushing it with a memphis amp which gives 1100 rms at 1 ohm.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that either way, Im going to be doing a sealed box. And yeah, I dont want to see one of those 8's go poof, so if I do run one, I will be VERY careful lol.
-
As have I, ever since I first seen those massive 8" subs Ive been impressed, but it also appears that SSA's comin out with a hefty contender theirselves very soon. Hopefully I'll get a shipping quote today sometime, and then whenever paypal clears, then I'll just be waiting on them to get here. Ive waited this long, whats a week or two more? lol

Well, I just found out today that I'm gettin an '02 Dodge Dakota quad cab for graduation After doing a little searching, there are very few possibilities of having a sub in the truck and not losing any seating space in the rear of the cab (well actually only one - MTX thunderform, but I definitely don't like the looks of it). So I plan to but a small sealed box in the middle of the floor in the rear, on the transmission hump. My question: does anyone have any experience with subs in trucks (mine in particular) and if there is any major difference in sound/output between up-firing, down-firing, forward, ect... I have read that downfiring is the way to go for sealed and honestly have no idea but I just wanted to see what some of you guys thought.

I'll be sure to do a build log, although it wont be near as in depth as most people's are. Its goin to be my first attempt at a box build, and I had to pick a complicated one at that (for me at least).

Well, I managed to find an rl-i8 for sale, well actually lets make that two of them. The deal is still getting worked out, but I'm pumped about those little beasts! Waitin on a shipping quote and then everything will start falling into place. And as it turns out, I have quite a bit less room than I first anticipated, maybe a cube, net. Maybe. Im trying to figure out a box that will fit closely to the outline of the transmission hump in the rear, for the simple reason of not rendering my rear seats useless to passengers. And I also have to make sure that the box wont interfere with the back of the front seats when they get leaned back.... so many things to figure out...but in a good way. I just hope these little guys hold up to their rep of performing well in small sealed boxes, because I'll need it lol. Im goin to try and fire them towards the front, as low as possible, like tirefryr suggested, I'm still open to any more suggestions. And I dont have exact measurements, but from rough ones I took earlier today, it looks like I got about 9" deep, about 18" for width (but again that gets into interfering with the front seats) and height isn't as strict, maybe 14" for the highest, still not sure on that one. Just thought I'd let ya know.

Hey, welcome!

This is going to sound awfully newbish, because...well it is. I see all over this forum and various others about what to tune a ported box to. Well it dawned on me a while back, what does it mean if you tune a box to, ah lets say 32 hz? Does that mean that the subwoofer can only play notes above this frequency, or what? Also what particular specification(s) point you in the right direction on what to tune the enclosure to (besides the obvious manufacturer's recommended boxes, as I see a lot of people that don't necessarily stick to what the company provides.) Please go easy on me, as I am really clueless when it comes to ported enclosures (as I personally like sealed one's myself).

Thats some very good information ^^^ Thanks for the linkage, cleared a few things up for me.

Hey do you have that assassin hooked up yet? Im anxious to hear a review on those...keep us posted.
-
That looks really nice man! I especially like how you did the logo.
-
Yeah I have been watching/reading daily about SI's new lineup and I just finished reading your review (which was really good by the way). Personally, I havent heard a Mag or a BM so I couldn't really relate to the comparisons made in the review, but heres my biggest problem: There are just too many good subwoofers on the market right now! lol
-
Yeah but those rl-i's just look so beastly, but so does the w7, which Im sure does a great job as well, but it also has a beastly price. I could get two rl-i's for the price of one jl (well almost). Anyways, thanks for your help.
-
Well Mike from SS just pm'd me back and said he was all out, I just sent denim a message about it, and hopefully he has some, but its doubtful.
-
Given the complications with TC (Soundsplinter's build house, correct?) are they rl-i8's even still available? They look very nice and I just read a review by mmray and he really seemed to enjoy them, which makes me even more interested.
-
Yeah it is an amazing gift and totally unexpected! I have a 10" right now, as for the 8's how are they on the low end of things, compared to a 10"? I was seriously considering goin with one, but had never heard one, but with space at a premium I may have to. Have you had personal experience with all/any of them?
-
OK, so before everyone starts about how overpriced these subs are for what you get, I have a question. My friend bought one 13 W7 about 2 years ago and he's looking to sell it now...gettin married, well you know how that goes. Anyways he said if I was interested he would take $350 for it. Im pretty sure it hasn't been abused cause he usually treats his stuff good and also I know for a fact he was powering it with some type of Power Acoustik amp. Either way it probly wasnt seeing 1000 watts. Im gettin a newer car for college graduation and wanted to start with a totally different setup, replacing all the speakers in whatever it is that I get. Ive only heard one of these one time, and its been too long to remember what they sound like. Anyways just wanted to see what you guys thought, Im goin to check it out on Friday when I get back down to where he lives. Do you think it would be a good start to a future SQ oriented setup or should I just stick with anything but JL?
-
And what would you come back with after sub shopping with $350? Just curious.
-
Wow, that is a heck of a setup you got there. Very nice ride.
