My father is looking for a very good receiver for his home theater. He wants something that can use an ipod docking station He has an Onkyo TX-SR603 right now but it took a crap on him and blew out all the tweets so he just wants to get another amp instead of having it fixed. I know nothing about HT so I really need your help. This is what he wants: 1. of course a 5.1 or 7.1 it doesn't have to be THX certified. 2. He wants to be able to put an ipod to it (via docking station) 3. 80-100 watts per channel 4. he also has an amp so he wants to be able to connect that amp to the receiver. 5. budget around $350-$600 As far as I know he's just using regular speaker connections (pos and neg) and RCA connections for the speakers and i don't think he's using XLR connections. I'm just throwing models out there but what about the Onkyo TX-SR605? can another amp be connected into this receiver? It's supposed to be a good receiver, very highly rated. but again, i really don't know. ****, i got to learn about HT. I hate not knowing a thing about this.lol

You guys are great here and I know you know a lot. I have a friend that needs to find a high quality line out converter with a remote out for an amp. I don't want the Scosche because it's not the best out there. I was looking at the Southgate LOC but it doesn't have a remote out for the amp. Do any of you know a very good quality line out converter??? Thanks guys.
-
I didn't see any mention of remote out. do you know if it has one? That is exactly what he's looking for. He's just going to install a sub to his mom's neon.
-
That can be used with a stock stereo? Forgot to mention that the LOC will be used for a OEM stereo on a Dodge Neon.

I was reading some of the threads here and I noticed a lot of you really don't like Hifonics. I just bought the BXI1206D and ZXI6406. I know exactly why most of you hate them, looking at your set ups (very expensive) i can totally understand why. Noticed a lot of Sundown Audio fans here. All i have to say is that they are beautiful amps, I would love to have one but with 2 kids and the budget i'm on i just couldn't afford it yet. I do hope my Hifonics can serve me well for the time being until i can afford better stuff. Just wondering, what do you all think of Elemental Designs amps (nine.1, nine.4 and nine.5)?

Hifonics Haters

I'm just going to wait, no sense ordering now. I just bought my Hifonics, who knows I may even like it. If i don't, then I'll sell it before my next trip and if that happens i'm going to get a sundown. Heard too many good things about them, I'm sure it's a solid amp. Before coming on to this forum I was pretty much sold on the eD amps if i were to change my Hifonics. Now, no doubt i'm going with Sundown. Thanks!!! -

Well, the reason why i put it at the time was I had read a thread about how much they really didn't like Hifonics. So the title was the first thing that came into mind. If the moderator/s would like to change the title of this thread then that is perfectly fine with me. I have Hifonics amps so I really wanted to hear peoples opinions on the matter and what they recommend instead of the current brand that I do have. All I know about eD is that they have a hefty warranty on their products, i think it's 5 years but don't quote me on that. I heard a lot of mixed reviews regarding their products so that's really why I mentioned eD. Thanks for the info. -

Funny, i tell people what I paid for my 2 Hifonics amps and my L5 and their jaw drops to the floor. Are you happy with you Fi sub? I'm looking at Fi's, Ascendant Audio for possible sub upgrades down the road. -

I think i'll just keep my Hifonics until my next trip to the States, They don't sell Sundown here and everybody loves JL here. I want to be different from everyone else. I know i'll be able to afford the Sundown amps when i go back. Good thing about living where I do (Philippines) is that everything is WAY overpriced because of all the taxes on stuff like amps so when i decide to sell my Hifonics I can probably sell them for what i paid for them. lol Thank you all for your input, I've heard so many great things about Sundown audio, I think I'm going to give them a shot. Got another question for you all... What are some good subs to pair with the Sundown 1000d? I have a 15" L5 now well it's still be shipped here but I'll have it in a few weeks. I'm thinking 2 12" but i'm not sure, I may love the 15" and not want to go back to 12's anymore. Anyway, what are some good brands to look at other than you typical mainstream stuff like JL, Kicker etc... -

any take on eD amps? -
probably because of your wiring, did you upgrade to the big three> i would suggest that you go to at least 2ga wires, better to go with 0ga.

yea i just got a bxi1600 not that long ago and it is a good and for the price, i got a 15" FiBL and it pounds That's what i heard from a lot of people. I'm not looking to join any competitions, I just wanted a decent amp for my 15" L5. Like i said, as of the moment there's no way i can afford stuff like sundown, zapco, mmats, sinfoni. Hopefully a year down the road i could. Just have to see. -

Well, i read some reviews and for the price i THOUGHT it would be a decent buy. Guess i was wrong, i can't turn back now though... What amps do you suggest for people on a budget??? Next time I go to the U.S. i'm really thinking about the nine.1 and nine.4 amps by eD. -
I'm new to the ported designs.. In other words, i really have no idea what i'm doing. I'm really just trying to llearn. I need to make a vented box. I want it to be 5 cu ft. tuned at about 33hz with the sub firing up. the max height can only be 14" but I have a huge width to play with of 49" as far as depth goes, i have a big area in the back of my expy so i guess up to 25" would be ok. Somebody on this forum recommended the Re calculator and i was TRYING to design something there. Obviously i wasn't doing it right. could you throw some help my way? At least your making an effort to learn. I find the best way is to use a pencil and paper or modify that and put the formulas in excel. Heres a link to formulas and method of pencil and paper. http://www.realmofexcursion.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22850 Since your making an effort to learn you can either try to design on on your own or try this one. after all displacements its 4.99 ft^3 @ 33.01 Hz with 15.03 in^2 per ft^3 of port area. WOW!!! Thanks a lot! I really appreciate the design. Thanks for the link too. I'm going to go over that and really try to learn how to design. Thanks again.

Hi everyone. I'm a new guy here on your forum. I'm going to need some help from any REAL GOOD box designers here. I just bought (waiting for it to be shipped to me) a 15" Kicker L5 and i'm going to power it with a Hifonics BXI1206D amp. I'm currently driving a '01 Expedition and i took out the 3rd row seat so i have A LOT of space to use here. I'd like to go with a vented box, something that will give me some pounding bass but clean. This is what i'll be using: JVC KD-AVX2 headunit (2) audiovox headrest monitors DLS 5 1/4 component speakers (front) DLS 5 1/4 speakers (rear) HIFONICS BXi1206D - for sub HIFONICS ZXI6406 - for front and rear speakers KICKER L5 15" DVC 4ohm I went over my measurements and It comes out to a width of 49", height of 19" and depth of 23 1/2". I am a member of another forum which the guys there are great, in fact one of the guys over there designed a box for me and i know that it'll slam but i wanted to make some changes to the height and he's got a small problem right now and he can't help me out as of the moment. i would like to use the whole 49" width for the box but not the max height of 19". I'd like to be somewhere around 14" height if possible. Also in the previous design i had, the sub was firing up and the port firing to the rear so i would like it to be the same. I hope there are some really good box designers here on this forum. I'm more than willing to pay for the design as long as i have the cut sheets. Hope you all can help me out. You can either PM me or email me at [email protected] thanks everyone!

Well, I have a sealed box right now and since I just got my L5 i thought i would try a ported box, if i don't like it then i'll just make another sealed box. For the most part, i just want to try it out.

I dont see where you get 5 cubes from those dimensions. Is that for a slot port or round? If round then after all displacements I got 6.02 ft^3 @ 34.91 Hz. that's for a slot port. I actually got that off of the RE audio enclosure calculator. I'll give you the whole breakdown. box width: 49" box height: 14" box Depth: 20" wood thickness: 0.75" square port height: 12.5" square port width: 6" square port length 2: 6.0" total port length: 29" square port area: 75 Square port volume internal: 2175 box volume (ft3): 5.09 tuned frequency (Fb): 33.135

ust wondering if anybody would know if this would be ok for my kicker L5 15". I'm just trying to learn. box width: 49" Box height: 14" Box depth: 20" Port width: 6" Port length: 6" Box volume: 5.03 cu ft. tuned Freq: 33.135hz Would i get any port noise with this?
-
thanks man, gotta link to that? i checking out the site now but I can't find the box design section. Damn, i feel pretty dumb now, I can't even find the box design section. lol Edit: I found it! geez, it was right in front of my face. lol

tuning at 33hz. According to kicker they can be in a box up to 6 cubes. the previous design was for 5 cubes.
