I usually make a guide / form out of cardboard lined with garbage bag. that way You can have the general shape. No problem man, it's fun stuff. DO NOT get it on Your skin or paint... it's hell to get off. -Nick

I love this stuff: http://www.uscomposites.com/foam.html or more specifically: FOAM-0216 (2lb foam - 16lb kit). I used this stuff for the most recent two enclosures, 8 cubic feet of foam for $50, I only used about 1/2 of it. quick and easy, for bigger objects, You can make one pour, wait about 5 minutes and make another pour, and so on. Really easy to carve with hand tools. But is definately NOT something structural. Which is okay cause You are not using it as reinforcement... just a base. I'll see if I can get some foam pics up when I get home tonight. It's great stuff to play with too, if You get the heavy duty stuff, it really is like a rock once it cures. 16lb foam has a compression rate of like 500 psi

OMGHI2U. I'm currently doing two enclosures similar. I havent posted pics or a thread yet, cause I'd rather wait untill I can show it done. meh. Yes, You can. Use the green florist foam as UCP pointed out. I've used expanding foam mostly, it's fairly cheap, lightweight, and easy to handle - cut, carve, shave, shape. *You can make the general shape (cardboard, garbage bags & tape) *You need pour the 2 part foam *Add the details to it (using a small hand saw & hand planer). *Cover it with a cheap 3mil plastic, heat it with the heatgun (to shrink it & make all the transitions smooth), and voila! You have a mold to work off of. Lay a few layers until it's stiff enough to hold its own shape, pop out the foam, and finish glassing from the inside. -Nick
