    Awesome Fiberglass Enclosures

wow those are really nice! i was just wondering if he would be able to make them to our specs (like tuning and volume etc.) or are they mostley pre-fab?

    My box still smells

haha, i noticed a smell coming from mine too! i kinda like the smell of the wood and glue for some weird reason. try shoving a car freshener or spraying fabreez deep inside the port, maybe it will blow out a good smell.

    Baltic Birch the best?

from what i`ve read on these forums, trupan light gets you way more bang for the buck. it ways almost exactly the same as baltic birch and costs way less. baltic birch is very sexy if you leave a side exposed without carpet and add a little stain on it though. edit:found my info here http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...68&hl=birch

big thank you to everyone at fi and ssa forums!

i checked it with a multimeter today. with the setting i have it on my amp, if i put the system at full wang on my headunit the voltage will slowly drop (like drop to 11.5 in about a minutes time) but as soon as i give it a shot of gas to bring my revs up to around 2000-3000 rpm it jumps right back up to about 13. not bad for a stock 80 amp alt and the performance i`m getting from the sub.
  5. I am almost done my setup on my corolla 98 and I just wanted to thank everyone in these forums for helping me put this thing together. I'm running a fully loaded bl 15 off a sundown saz 1500d (3.7 cubes net volume), i have 4 cdt cl series components with the upgraded tweets, my headunit is an alpine 9886 and an sax 100.2 should be here through the mail this week (temporarily while sax 100.4 become available) all my wires and fuses are from knukoncepts. I have never owned a soundsystem myself, but I have many friends who have them and just this year i caved in and decided i needed to buy a top notch soundsystem without paying big dollars for a brand name. I've been slowly putting everything together since late april, and for some reason i was almost afraid it was'nt going to be loud enough...wow was i ever wrong. At 1 quarter gain on the amplifier not only do i have the strongest bass in the school the sound gets so strong it moves my hair, hurts my ears and the waves hit my trunk lid so hard it makes a hardcore snapping noise...this thing is incredible. I was in shock for a good ten minutes when i first heard this thing move, and i could swear its getting louder every day i hear it (i guess its breaking in). In short I just wanted to thank everyone at fi/sundown and people at ssa forums for helping me every step of the way. It really would'nt have been possible to do this myself without you guys. Honestly this thing is rediculous...i am by far louder than my friend's 2 cdt 10's, my other buddies 2 12" kickers and my buddies adire tumult and my other's 2 12 inch pioneers...and i mean louder by a landslide not like 5 friends acting as a judge and voting mine unanimously louder(and mine sounds better too). The best part is that it's just at a quarter gain i still have ton's of power to feed the thing...but i wont attemp it until i get a h/o alt (so far i just did the big 3 in 0/1 gauge). I would highly recommend any of the products i mentioned above to anyone. (even the corolla for taking the beating my sub is constantly throwing at it). Again, big thanks to everyone!

    One BTL 15

i would opt for a fully loaded bl 15 instead, if your just planning to throw 1500w at the sub and not do too much electrical

    One BTL 15

big thank you to everyone at fi and ssa forums!

sadly enough i did'nt check the vd yet. i would just crank it for a couple solid seconds to see its potential. i'm hooking up a volt meter i bought last week so i can keep a closer eye on my electrical. the lights were'nt dimming on the car at all and i was'nt noticing any electrical drops i would normally notice on any of my friends' cars so i figured my stock electrical is holding up pretty well to what my teacher set the amp at. but honestly this thing is just ridiculous how it makes things shake on my car.the doors all bluge a couple millimeters out of place every time a strong note hits and my trunk makes a noise as if someone is punching it from the inside...

big thank you to everyone at fi and ssa forums!

haha there's still much to be learned! I actually let my teacher who used to be a sound tester for clubs and events in montreal do the tuning for me, he was the one who told me that there was only about 1/4 of the amps power being fed to the sub, i assumed the same since my elcectrical seemed to be keeping up with the settings he put the amp at and when i checked the amp the gain knob was about 1/4th of the way set and all the other knobs were nowhere near the their end either. but as you can see i still have much to learn, but i've also been a long way since i started at this forum...

Question on ordering a Fi sub

I'm not sure but i think a decent optima battery will cost you over 200$.
  11. thanks for the help guys. my gf went ahead and made a decision for me by buying the sax 100.2. i will run this temporarily until i can get my hands on a sax 100.4. i was leaning towards the sax 100.2 because it matches the 1500d that i have. for some reason it really bugs me when things don't match...
  12. hey all, im having a hard time finding used/refurb sax 100.4 (about 350$). i was wondering if anyone could recommend an amp that will put out similar performance for about the same price. my speakers are cdt classic series which handle about 100 rms each. thx-phil
  13. Hey all, I'm going to buy myself a new headunit my budget is around 250$. So far the ones that catch my eye are the Pioneer premier DEH-p600ub and the Ecipse CD3200. I don't know much about head-units...the pioneer caught my eye because it has a 7 band equalizer while the eclipse only has 3 band. The eclipse caught my eye because it has 5 volt pre-out compared to the pioneers' 4 volt (apparently more volts is better). Visually I like the Eclipse better cause people in Montreal don't seem to have them and looks more classy compared to pioneers blue leds all over the place. I'm hoping someone who knows about hu's can help me out, please help! These are the ebay auctions i was looking at : http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-2008-ECLIPSE-CD3200...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.ca/PIONEER-PREMIER-DEH-P60...1QQcmdZViewItem
  14. i paid 280$ at bestbuy on special. it would have probably been like 50$ cheaper on ebay but i did'nt feel like waiting and sometimes brokerage fees to ship to canada are over 50$. i did'nt feel like gambling for a bargain and waiting 2 weeks on top of it. i'm really happy with the purchase, if ever i decide i want more eq options and want to go active there is an add-on (forgot the name) that goes for around 180$ i believe.
  15. too late i alread bought the alpine 9886, the deh 6000 had more features when i checked at bestbuy but i just found it so much easier to work with the alpine.
  16. haha i would have considered it if i already didnt buy my 4 components. thx anyways tho
  17. ya i figured that much, its just the waiting part. i've been putting this system together since june, now all i'm missing is the matching sundown to go with my saz 1500d...now all of a sudden their impossible to find.
  18. I`m almost 99% sure that that smell is of hydrogen sulfide due to the battery being overcharged. If you battery is as hot as you say it is that means it`s a couple minutes from popping in your face. Not to mention the gases a battery emits can be fatal if you inhale them too much. I know this cause I was in mechanic school and I`ve seen plenty of battery`s blow up cause of irresponsible students that leave the chargers on high and forget about them...the car hood looked like a tent after the battery exploded.
  19. so basically sound wise they would sound about the same?

    port loading

hey all, i just finished my box.... i was just wondering if it was better to place my sub(on the baffle) close or far away from the port opening or center it on the port opening OR not care about the location all together.btw it`s a 3.5 cubic foot box with the port fireing on the same side as the sub.
  22. philsteroni

    is this enclosure good

i have been working on my box design this would work real good with my trunk space. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/home/bo...ideboxcalc.html is the box good to build or is there way too much port, fi recommends 12-16 per cubic foot of enclosure area? crap it only posts the default box... my box is the following: box width 35, box height 17, box top depth 19, box bottom depth 19, box thickness .75, square port width 4, square port length 2-16

    is this enclosure good

i want the tuning around 31 hz and the box size to be around 4 cubic feet. i'm gonna try to squeeze this sucker in the trunk of my corolla.
  24. philsteroni

    box height

hey guys, i purchased a bl 15 a while ago and now im starting to measure my trunk to see how big of box i can fit. i made an exact replica out of cardboard a box thats was a little bigger than 4 cubic feet and 17 inches high. when i tried to put it in my trunk (corolla 98 is the car) the box was rubbing a tiny little bit height wise while it was about 75% in. i was wondering if its possible to make the box 16.5 inches high instead of 17 without sacrificing speaker output. sorry it's a bit complicated to explain!
