i'll beat sean to this. minidsp! http://obiaudio.com/...cy_chart_lg.gif - frequency range for some instruments you can see from here where your problem area is. which you already know, midbass.

It certainly depends on your goals. The thing about running two different speakers playing the same frequency is that you will have cancellation and timing issues. I'm about to go deep thought process so bear with me. I don't want pro's because I don't like having a hole in my frequency response AND I don't like my subs to play above ~70hz, so I need something that's not wimpy in that area. I have two sets of (really f-ing cheap) Pioneer comps up front now and it doesn't sound...awful. They sound like poo poo below about 100hz but that's because the door is untreated and I have them on almost triple rated power. why dont you like your subs playing above 70? no way will a 6.5 keep up with a loud substage at 70hz. Maybe an 8 could, idk. You would have to go active to run them, btw. With that said...I don't know if an 8" is for me. I hear all the time that two sets up front is not optimal but I have two sh!tty sets now and I kinda like it. Granted I've never heard a die hard SQ setup but I don't listen to SQ-y music so I don't think that affects me much. When I'm in the car I listen to rap, rap, hip-hop, and then some rap lol, (I listen to other things at home on my Grado's though) so all I'm looking for is loudness and warmth. All the sets I've had so far have been bright and shrill and I'm trying to get away from that. so you looking for loud and speakers that aren't shit. nothing to do with sq. Also...like I said already I do have active-capable crossovers on my amps BUT I don't want to run back and forth to adjust the xo frequency (and have to guess at it). 8" comp sets are a bitch to find, and most 8"s that aren't PA are midBASSes rather than the typical double duty car audio mid. just crossovers on the amps is not enough to run active properly. i would look into headunits if your going that route. I know I sound biased as hell and it may seem like I'm set on two sets of 6.5's up front and I apologize. I appreciate everyone's time. so your going with a bad idea because you think it will sounds good? compared to what? running two sets of comps is objectively a bad idea. there are better ways to approach this problem then blindly throwing more speakes at it.. why make this tread at all? the information your looking for is already on this site, just a simple search away.

sounds like you designed the box poorly.

personally my headunit controls a usb drive much better then an ipod via usb. you would want to explore both for the specific headunit your looking to get.

If you fast to cleanse and start fresh it's understandable, if not it's definitely damaging. just curious, whats the general step-by-step process to cleanse?

Love your premise. I tried it myself and decided. Was going to post before, but personally I think you guys should NOT read any of the books you've got Stefan. The idea's that I hear you come up with regularly are seriously biased and strange. I tried to make it simple before and pointed out how to eat, Matt is pretty much confirming the same thing. of course the most critical is to listen to your body. my body just told me to eat two dozen salt water taffy's

1. You can choose either coil config when you order the recone. 2. I'm not positive but either way they should be able to get you one. As far as setting up an idiot proof system. I set the gain with the HU all of the way up to assuming that they could turn it up all of the way as they don't know any better. And tell them that they are not aloud to adjust anything on the amp or the HU after you are done. If it's a ported enclosure, you could also turn the ssf up a little, and back the gain down some on the amp. Yes, you determine which coil you want, and the recones will fit the original Icon. thanks!

i think he'll be more open to some education after paying for the recone. to give you an idea of what im working with here. he bought a 2000 dollar moped the summer. brand new with a whopping 50cc! oh and 400 dollar insurance for the year...

When i tear it apart i'll see if the coil was hitting the back plate, etc. i think it was purely thermal failure.

oh man, my brother smoked his Icon Two questions if you guys happen to know. Perhaps Aaron will see this (this is for a previous gen icon i believe, concave dust cap but only rated @ 1000wrms) 1. Can you swap coil configs? 2. Are the recones in the SSA store compatible with this model? My brother is not knowledgeable at all with how his system functions and not interested in learning. What are some of the steps you guys take when setting up someones install so its more idiot proof? I'm thinking i'll recone it back to D2 ohm and run it on the amp @ 4ohm instead of 1ohm. I just hooked up my AA arsenal @ 8ohm and it sounds like its getting close to 400-500 I had the enclosure pushed back in his trunk so he had some room for putting some thing in the trunk. Downside is that you lose ~3dB compared to having the sub up close to the lid. I would have thought that he would have smelt the glue burning up. I'm guessing he left the rear seats folded up.

great so far. more pics!

Almost. Get the advanced 4 way crossover. That allows independent crossovers on all four channels which is whay you need. And yes, dip switch to change. Note: this will give you no sub processing, but considering you only need a HP & LP the amp should have that. Perfect. ditching the ms8? Yep, and the HAT L4s. nice, i'd love to mess around with the minidsp. Haven't followed your build in a while. Are going back to just the anarchy's and tweets?
