He is going for more for sound quality. A btl isn't really a sq sub. It sounds good but other sq could be had for less. 3500 watts isn't sq at all, op just wants a sub that doesn't sound like ass. any of the suggestions would work, assuming the box is built correctly and the install isn't terrible

the ppi's look better than the nvx and cost about the same. you wont notice a difference in output between the sub amps http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_33876_Precision_Power_P9004.aspx http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_33874_Precision_Power_P10001.aspx

Focal amp. Good deal ??
lithium replied to Canucknoob's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
when it comes to amps its pretty easy to find some cheap clean power. i pointed out in your other thread that the nvx is using a very common design so for that particular amp i would assume the nvx is decent. personally i like the ppi or polk model. I used an SSA icon in my bro's car, great sounding subwoofer and can get plenty loud. -
you could probably pick one based on aesthetics and expect similar performance.

that particular nvx amp is a common design used by a number of companies recently. the difference between all of them is probably the components used on the boards. polk http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-4-Channel-Amplifier-PAD4000-4/dp/B006OCBW1Y ppi http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_33876_Precision_Power_P9004.aspx?utm_source=google_shopping&utm_medium=Product_Feed&utm_campaign=google_shopping_Price_Comparison&gclid=CLPd0ZaS1rUCFVGf4Aodmz0AhQ soundstream http://www.amazon.com/TN4-900D-Soundstream-4-Channel-Class-Amplifier/dp/B009NLNY14/ref=sr_1_10?s=car&ie=UTF8&qid=1361956285&sr=1-10&keywords=soundstream probably a few more brands like hertz iirc, you can search for a list im sure

I agree. Perhaps his current headphones just aren't comfortable..

A friend of mine would like to put together a system that is loud enough to be heard while playing drums. I guess the idea is that he plays while listening to music and he's tired of doing so while wearing headphones. budget: <300 for speakers and amp i'm doubt a small bookshelf system will be capable so i was thinking, with his budget constraints, pro audio gear. his best bet would probably be used gear but would anyone have a new option? he is not very interesting in building the enclosure himself and i live too far away to help him with that.

almost missed this! -
mine are running fine off a kicker kx 250.2. Even if i had more power on tap my doors currently can not handle it without rattling excessively (This is after tons of deadening. POS gm door panel design ).

i ran the same MB with a widebander for a while before stepping up to a 3 way frontstage. this is the wb i used. http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-3-fullrange/peerless-830986-3-full-range/ i also tried another wb in my bro's install. http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-3-fullrange/fountek-fr88ex-3-full-range/ it's been quite some time since i ran this setup but i really enjoyed it. i think the fountek in my bro's car might be the better wb but without comparing things under the same conditions that's just a subjective observation. im sure it's been said already, the trick with WB's is that they must be on axis.
