got some noob paint questions guys. maybe i should make a tread.. eh I've been working on a tablet mount for my car and it is almost ready for paint (almost = couple more hours of bondo and sanding). i picked up a SEM color chart to compare to the stock panel color. http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yourautotrim-store_2269_149898214 from this I think i've narrowed the matching paint to monterey. however, it seems to be slightly off. Some further searching indicated that there should be an actual GM color match (car is an olds intrigue btw). So I found another SEM color chart. http://www.tcpglobal.com/spraypaintdepot/sem242a.html I haven't ordered a sample card of these, perhaps i should, but i think the med dark pewter is closest to the actual color. Question is, am i going about this the right way? is there a better method? and if someone could give me a step by step on readying the piece for paint that would be great. edit: here is what i'm working on. quite a lot of work left before its ready.

Boo its funny, i almost returned this particular speaker because there was a little too much glue around the dust cap.

i had a slightly different expectation when I hit play... but it was still pretty great

wtb Fountek FR88EX (one or two in good cosmetic condition)
lithium posted a topic in For Sale/Wanted
as the title says, i need at least one of these mids in good condition. open to buying a pair -
fucking chinese and their expensive magnets

I have one 89 with a dented dust cap if you want it on the cheap. no thanks, i never made him grills cover the mids up. i'll probably try posting in some f/s on here and diyma and see if i can find one. my brother doesn't mind paying 40 + 10 shipping for a new one but perhaps i can find a pair just in case the other bites the dust.

Question is, go with a direct replacement for $40 or grab two fe85, which seems to be a ferrite motor version of the same driver? anyone ideas? edit: maybe i should read some the specs before jumping to conclusions. seem the 88>85

so i've installed a pair of fountek fr88ex in my brother's car a few years back. today he has me check them out and i find that the coil locked up one of them. tore it apart and see that the motor shifted

Help with picking speakers and sub

when we get to the point concerning a new sub we need to know measurements for avaible space. someone will be able to help you design the box. -

you're probably looking to spend 100 on the sub and 100 on the speakers? there's nothing really that stands out in that price range. a long while back it might have been ok for me to say get some phoenix gold rsd 6.5's because they' were really good for the money. i dont think there's anything like that anymore. most shit at 100$ of any decent quality will sound the same and only vary with respect to the tweeter material. though i'm probably generalizing too much. i will point out that partexpress still has some buyout Bravox stuff. Bravox was pretty popular on the forum during the time the ssa store stocked it. just looking through some of whats left, you can get 5x7s and a sub for about 100-120. this would open up a lot of budget for install materials, namely sound deadening, which would improve your results more than anything else. just to point out, we havent determined what space you have available and whether you're building your own box for the sub. -
Help with picking speakers and sub

if its a 4 channel amp then each rca would be the signal for a channel. it probably has a 2 channel mode where you only hook up rca to channel 1 and 2 and that signal is sent to all 4 channels. you just lose fade control from the head unit. I would get 1 decent set of speakers in the doors, not the sides, and a sub. go to a local audio store even if its best buy and listen to what they have. determine if you like soft tweeters or metal tweeters. theres no real point to us suggesting what speakers you'll like over the internet. no one knows what you think sounds best. -
would i be better off going with a smaller speaker?
lithium replied to Briggiboy33's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
first try a sealed enclosure. you could probably seal up your ported enclosure. -

there's more to tuning than just TA.

if you're worried about output you shouldn't be looking at the Q in the first place. not sure why your fixating on Xmax either

install the woofer in the door with waterproof baffles. go to sounddeadenershowdown.com for deading stuff. read the web page for a description of what deadening will do for your install. at the bare minimum you will probably need to seal access holes in the doors and add some cld to the panels. too late to mention this now but personally if I were limited to 200 dollars i would have spent half on deadening and the other half on the component set. dont mount the crossovers where they will get wet. use velco or other products to try many mounting locations for the tweeter. try the sail panels, a pillars, door panel, and kicks. set gain and xover properly to prevent damaging your speakes.

new wire and big 3 could help if you have dimming/low voltage. unless the walmart stuff is really undersized you wont hear an audible difference.

why not recone it?

just ordered a PPI Sedona 850.1

if you're on a budget its best to buy used. but otherwise its probably fine. most stock alts cant power a larger amp if you're worried about that kind of thing. -
