Is it way cheaper? ~$1.58 a square foot for pond liner versus ~2.10 for MLV. Unless you buy the pond liner by the pallet, in which case it's closer to 1.20 a square foot. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-dB-3-4-ft-x-8-ft-Acoustical-Barrier-DB348X96BX/100663624?quantity=4#specifications thought about doing the floor of my car with this. 0.75lb/ft2 so I would have to consider doubling up. No need to double up. 24lbs. @ 4' x 8' x 80 mils is the same density as the MLV. Great find! density isn't a big deal unless you have clearance issues where higher density = thinner material.

you shouldn't trust the dial at all. pick a test tone, say 60 hz and play that through the sub. now start with the dial at 50 and slowly move up until the test tone starts to decrease in loudness. that will roughly be the -3db point. its not so much that you should pick the xover frequency ahead of time. that doesn't make sense. This is more so for comparing different xover points (ie. 50 vs 60 vs 80 and so forth). lets say you find that 60 is good but 80 isn't. next you would try something in between. repeat until you find the magic number. you can do this for the hpf on your mids as well. in this case you pick 80hz for example, start with your dial ABOVE (instead of below), and listen for the -3db point.

what do you use for cutting the trim panel? I've been using a dremel and its throwing molten plastic at me.

mechanical noise tells me you're over driving the sub. my guess is a leaky enclosure?

by 4th order you mean bandpass i assume? why bandpass over a typical ported configuration. wouldn't the smaller gross enclosure requirement be helpful considering you could run larger subs?

you should check the mounting depth. the IA i 10" has a vented pole so it would need additional clearance. If that doesn't work than you could look at something like the sundown sd-2

$170, ppi 900.4 or any of the variants (polk, hertz, nvx, etc) are about the same size as the arc audio amp. -

no you dont seem to understand. All things equal, a 15 will only be louder than a smaller sub across its entire response. Terms like cleaner or consistent dont apply in any way. To put it another way. Its completely possible to have an 8" sub and 15" sub with the same frequency response from 20hz-100hz however the larger sub would have the output advantage. -

not arguing just pointing out you didn't test them appropriately. gained matched blind test is the only way to do it. -
if you're chasing a bit more output you could move the xover point from 50 up to something like 80hz. you would lose some of that upfront bass however.
