Bump for an answer to my question. bump bump
-
interesting... ill have to try that on my next box if i can...
-
how many cubes in the box and whats the tune?
-
make it rain!!! lol are those just plain bolts u used for box terminals?
-
i love mazda's! good luck on the build
-
go for it dude. i have one 12 and ran it off 600rms kenwood excelon amp and it hit very good and had very nice sq. it was in a 1.2 cube sealed box for awhile and i enjoyed it but i later desided to try a ported box 2.2 cubes net tuned to 30 hz and its still very accurate. i go back and forth between boxes because i like it in both. if i had 2 of them i would run sealed because of the awesome sq the driver has. with only 1 in the ported box i get a good balance between sq and spl that i enjoy.

thanks for the info m5. ill continue to play with the location and polarity for now.
-
can someone please explain these concepts of on axis and off axis to me.
-
that makes alot of sense thanks. what about "padding the tweeter"? what's that all about?
-
ohya i heard some one say something about putting material infront of the tweeter. i think it was fleece.... idk hows it work?
-
im goin to switch the polarity on the tweets tomorrow night. i did like it more when i had them switch and located up in the window sails but im liking them more off axis and closer to the mid like they are now.
-
ya that sounds like an good idea too. my dad just happen to find some velcro in walmart the other day. i put the hook side on the tweet and the other stuff on the door. they camp in like 1 or 1.5 inch circles. they stick enough to hold the tweet but i can take them off with out damaging the door. i had to clean the spot on the door because i use armoural whipes to clean them.
-
is that safe to do with a component set? i thought i heard that not having both hooked up it somehow messed up the crossover?
-
thanks for the responses. i got some velcro and im trying my tweets in different spots. pg rsd comp set. started with them in the factory location and i had good stage height but they are way to bright for me on axis. especially when i play alot of rock music. i think its also got alittle to do with my pos hu. but anyways i had them there in the a pillar then i try reversing polartity cause it suppose to do something... idk what, but i did, and it did do something and i liked it alittle more... right now i moved them down pretty close to the woofer basicly afew inches above the mid and im playing around with the direction with the swivel. im just not sure on were to aim the passenger side. i also think the stage is alittle to low now. so my next option in up about 4-6 inches basiclly halfway between the current location and the factory a pillar location. im just playing with it till i can go active later this year. i think it was /m5 that recommended a 2" full range instead of a tweet? maybe that would be an option. im going to try to go with AA carbon mids aswell. i've got this pair of polk tweets hanging around that i might use temporarily if i dont have the money for some nice tweets right away.... and if i blow them do to bad settings i dont really care. lol sorry kinda babbled. thanks agian guys

hey philanthro. hows it been. see u finally got the 1000d hope you can get rid of that kicker soon. if i were u id get the ixl. no one has it, especially in a car. either way your not going to be disappointed. im really interested in getting one after i get the new front stage done. heck if u hate it maybe ill have some cash lying around and ill buy it off you haha. but dont count on me, im just hoping to get this whole active setup underway by Xmas and done in late January...

Which company sells the best wires

isn't their (knu) copper clad aluminum wire thicker then the same gauge copper wire? pretty sure thats what the site said... -
holy chit wow was that a crack in the door?
-
please dont blow your friends money on junk woofers. keep it simple. like a fi bl and a 1500d. learn to do it right the first time! my first set up was 2 kicker comps and a walmart sony amp later i added a 3rd kicker and got a new amp and learn for each addition. each time i made a new box and now i understand how to design and build a pretty good one. i might have lost money but i didn't drop anywhere near a grand. if u want a pointer here's one - dont buy a pioneer sub or any sub because it says 3k watts. i probably wasted my time with this post. why dont u have your friend buy abunch of type RRRRRs watch his ass rattle down the street.
-
where are u geting the amp from. i saw the website is sold out.
-
someone should come by and correct me but this is just what i understand... usually you would but them close to the speaker on the door or up by the window sails. im currently moving mine around trying too find a good balance of stage height? i have them in the factory sail pods. they are little bright but the staging is decent... i also switch the polarity. next im going to use some velcro to position them on the door and later try down by closer to speaker. basiclly it depends on your equipment and car. what kind of tweeter/components to u have? idk if your box on the floor is the best option...
-
alright sounds good.
-
alright so its ok if i use an unfused distro if i split an 8 gauge up in to 2 for 2channels? i might not need the distro if i just get a 4 channel. im still not sure on the RCAs is it worth it to get the Krystals over the Klarity and Karma series? would the karma's be a good middle of the road option?
