thanks for the answers guys. but im wondering what would happen if u had lpf at lets say 80 with a 6 db slope and then a second point kinda close at like 90 hz with a higher xover slope like 18 or 24. i can picture it in my head but i would be nice if u could model it up for me johnecon just so i know if im right. thanks
-
my sub amp is a kenwood excelon. u cant bypas the xover... right now i just cranked it 200hz at a fixed 18db slope. and use an 80 hz 18 (or 12) on the hu. i forget if the 2 frequencies combine or if there separate of each other.... i think it was explained to me once awhile back that they somehow combine so i would have like a 75 hz with 36db slope.... what would u recommend i do...

sorry i ment carbons... i got a quote from nick back before xmas. if i get thru march with some cash to spare ill be taking him up on them. does anyone have the demension on the carbon mids? just gota make sure i can make them fit... also what would be some decent tweeters cheap tweets to match up with the carbons. right now i have my pg rsd components active. they aren't to bad but i think its time to move up.

here's where ive gotten my last 2 amps. its legit. ubid.com it should take u to all there kicker stuff.
-
makes perfect sense to me. idk where i heard that other explanation... d

i thought so too.... ill mess with it tomorrow. i think how i have it now. it sound pretty decent. i think i actually have the sub at at the next step down on my hu which is 63 hz. i was thinking about just using the sub's xover by it self and setting it at about 75 hz... ehh either way ill get it sound nice sooner or later. being able to tune this much is pretty fun.

Power cable to battery connection
lithium replied to ADK's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
oh sweet i didnt think i could keep the factory wiring in those plastic boots...for some reason i figured id have to cut them... but anyways thanks you for posting that pic. i think ill be picking a set of terminals this weekend and doing my battery ground. oh and by the way to the op. just to clarify its power to the + terminal not negative. im guess u just have a typo. (or i cant read)... and yes your deffinatly not getting as good a connection off the fuse box as the u would be with the batter. my car has a something like a 105 amp alt and i was getting dimming with 500rms kenwood class d amp with a connection off the fuseblock. for some reason the previous owner of my car cut that factory boot thing off the postive cables. (im guessing corrosion had something to do with it) and put a ghetto looking connection to the battery that i could use... think its time to fix that. sorry for the highjack -
I'm new to the site n really need help with a new system

i have a 00 intrigue. sub is AA arsenal 12" tuned to 30 hz in a ported box i made. amp is a kenwood excelon rated at 600 rms. that car get get plenty loud if u do it right. hitting the trunk with some deadener helps alot too. if u can build your own box or get a friend to do it for you that would help alot. most of those prefab boxes u see are junk. if u cant build it. buy a nice one. it wont matter how many watts u throw at a sub, if the box is chit it will sound like chit. as for speakers i recommend phoenix gold rsd components. 6.5" sub for under 90 bucks. dont put anything in the back. its not needed. i i've gotten my last to amps. both kickers from ubid.com. (do a search for kicker). their refurbished but u can get an extended warranty. they also sell new subs and amps. do a new post with more details in the right section. -
ahh ohwell. polymids come first!!! just need some paychecks. maybe when i get my taxes back. ill get back to u on that

picture whores are waiting....

ive got an 12" arsenal. theres no way u can kill this sub on 500rms with out abusing it.

been really busy and havent had the time to post in what feels like weeks. ive been playing with xover and add TA. im very impressed with it! i got some rattle goin on with the door panel that i need to pin down. im still planning on getting a hybrid horn box designed by thumper. im playing around with the idea of rebuilding my sub into a 10 or 8... and walling off the trunk. as far as the amp rack is concerned i really like the concept but im not sure if its the right idea for my car. i need to rework it alittle so it hugs the bottem of the rear deck. as it is right now i dont have enough clearance to move my box under the amps. if i can get more vertical clearance i will go head and have thumper draw me up a box. other option im thinking about are false floor, amps in spare tire well, dropping the sub all together and going 3 way, or etc --------------- right now ill just take care of the immediate problems. ill get pics up. there not much to look at but maybe it will help if i get some suggestions.

lol no. but i would assume my stock electrical wouldnt like 800-1000rms from an amp with something like 65% efficiency... not sure if i need that much tho. id like it for head room
-
the only thing im kinda worried about with an a/b sub amp is having the electrical to support it.

Arc Audio 2500CXL is 525w x 2 @ 2 ohms. o look! I still have one of the old blue ones! i got my bday this weekend so im thinking of things to buy. i think i wont upgrade the sub amp yet... i think ill first get some ensolite for the doors and then id like to get one of thumper's hybrid horn box designed up for my sub and build it myself.... id love to hear the difference between a/b and d class amps in my car... this also reminds me to take pics of my build now that its mostly done... there is really to much to think about
-
what are some decent a/b amps (with power around 500+ rms)? im looking to upgrade from a kenwood excelon i have now. has to power at 2 ohms... i remember a RF 2 channel amp but forget the model number right now... it was one of the power series i believe. what else is there?

i had a hornet security system installed in my car, baught and installed at circuit city... its been in almost a year now. last weekend my car sat for 2 days while i was visiting my gf. alarm was armed, no light were left on. battery was deadafter 2 days. i thought it was the cold so i took it to walmart, they tested everything and said it could be going bad or something is draining from the battery. my dad bought a new battery and all was fine. like i said i thought it was the cold weather giving it a hard time. so anyways last night i accidentally armed the alarm (not knowing if it was the draining the battery or if previous battery was just dying on its own) and my battery was dead. (armed saturday night and battery was dead Monday morning)... im calling out the alarm on this one. i didn't install myself. didn't really want to mess with it. im still relatively new to this kind of thing. ive called circuit city and ill be taking it up there to have them look at it. (for free) any advice? additional info: -car- 2000 olds intrigue -audio- cheap ass chitty sony deck -front stage- kx250.2 and pg components -sub stage- AA arsenal and kenwood excelon amp -cap- 1.2 farad tsunami -wiring- kicker 4gauge

i got it done! finally have my tunes back. i set some basic xover setting and gain and so far im liking it. it will nice to set TA and get everything dialed in. unfortunately i dont have pics atm. il get some up when i get home monday or tuesday.
-
thanks good luck with your build
-
finished up alot of little things today including the amp rack... tomorrow is the last day for my install, all i have left is sealing up the left door and plug in some xover settings, gain etc... im taking a drive to visit my gf 200miles away so ill have some time to give it a good listen.

if the component set was, lets say, 4 ohms and the amp was 100x2 at 4 ohms it would send each side 100 watts then the cross over splits it up between the tweet and mid. how much power they really see is alittle more complicated and i cant explain it...
-
pg rsd components are also a very good option. can be found for about 80 bucks.

x2 i was looking forward to his advice and opinion of my build but i haven't seen him post in awhile
