the 2nd half of your post goes to show how little people understand car audio... this thread is so full of BS and miss information, it might as well be closed...

What comps would you recommend? And how would I go active with the head units I listed? He is on a budget and wants the 2 DIN, didn't think you could do it with the avn3100 or avn4100. I also am curious about a good shallow mount sub or another alternative. Thanks well i think i would recommend you go with a comp set if your not capable of active (i cant recommend any however). also, some amp can do active, like sundown's line. like i said earlier, you should focus on the install. deadening the doors, IMHO, is a must to get good sound from the speakers. for subs id stay away from shallow mounts, they tend to cost more and perform inadequately for the money. what space do you have to work with?

wow i need sleep... maybe ill be done with this hw by 4 rofl

fugger lol, 2nd is pretty impressive...

could be voltage drop i guess. also check the song itself, could be poor recording.

thanks, i really hope so, it should look pretty cool atleast. non of my friends have ever seen an 18" sub so they should be pretty surprised. right now i got the sls's playing down to 30 hz, pretty impressive for 8s haha... but i need just alittle more down low to be content. it really doesn't make much sense for me be spending all this on a sub to play from 30-50hz but thats why i love this hobby. it doesn't have to make sense!

looks good, if u get a chance, round the corners of the pieces that stick out from the wall, that make up the port (if you know what i mean).

thanks, im happy with things so far. i may go back later and add fans... its getting cold now so i dont think i need to worry. ill take some good pics with a real camera when i put the rest of the side panels in for real.

that kind of music will benefit from beefy midbass, try Incorporate that into the install. possibly with an active set up or a good set of componets w/ deadening on the doors. my dad's 03 f150 has alot of road noise with some aggressive tires and exhaust, so a health dose of deadening in the right places will really help with the sound of the system.

Yeah it is a trunk, it should fit, I did a similar size in a friends Taurus of the same year, it was tight as hell, but it went in with persuasion haha Thank you! Thanks a lot! ill take a look at my bro's car again, i like to get some more port area for him... right now its just 2 4" pvc ports... maybe i can do some diy flares for them to kill some port noise. gona pull the rear speakers too, his rear deck is getting fucked up...

i got bit with the spl bug alittle when i was highschool but never ran more then the 600rms that the kenwood claims to put out. i basically just baught stuff that was the best bang for my buck. i got the kx250.2 just to power a set of component (about 80 bucks shipped), later i decided to go active and picked up the zx100.2 (for 50 bucks shipped, also from ubid.com), i wish i could have matched the kickers... however they are pretty well hidden from view now. ill have matching amps one day!!! the mj 18 IB is a bit of an experiment for me, im not sure what to expect from it to be honest. the problem im facing right now is getting a good seal between the trunk and cabin. if i cant get it perfect ill glass an enclosure by the right rear tire well and vent out through the fender... (i think this would be pretty fun but i'll have to wait till its warm again) im hoping next paycheck i can get the basket and recone, then have it installed in 4 weeks (max). right now im pretty busy with school, and i make 4 hour drives to pittsburgh to see the gf one or 2 weekends a month... (which means i cant work those weekends... so i dont make money... so i cant work on my car.... its a never ending cycle)

I totally agree. now if some other company would just put out a certain sub....
-
this might help, list of amp classes i didnt look this over, but i think its the right one haha this link talks about ampliers so from what ppl have been telling me so far and what i have been reading it would seem that mosfets in amps would be nearly the only ideal application? interesting! i thought it talked about different kinds and how they are used, maybe i have the wrong article.

frequency responce range starts at 50... thats odd

where ever your would like to put the sub(s)... some places could be: behind the seat(s), under the seats, on the floor between the center console and dash (if you dont have a floor shifter thingy).. or where else you can come up with.
