Hardwiring is "free" haha i should have known someone to would say that. would have to "tie down" the leads, is that as simple as it sounds? just stitch them to the spider and leave some slack?

Alpine Type R or Rockford Fosgate P3 Subs?

well first for you subs look into some of brands on the site here. im willing to bet anything offered here could outperform the stuff you listed. the entry level incriminator (forget the name) audio subs have great reviews, as do dcon's from ssa, fi ssd, mach 5 ixl (just to name afew)... you can always run just 1 nice sub. the box you have comes out to about ~2.5 cubes so 2 12"s will fit fine... as you said you listen to rap you might like more output from your subs. id recommend that u build your own box or have a friend or family member help you out. DO NOT USE A PREFAB BOX!!! as far as electrical goes, watch for dimming and consider doing the big 3. for the truck, here are some idea's. 1- if all you plan to ever do is just the speakers to replace the stockies, do some cheap coax's off the hu 2- if you plan to add an amp for them later buy a set of components for upfront and either leave the speakers in the back stock, remove/turn them off, or replace with cheapo's.

Alpine Type R or Rockford Fosgate P3 Subs?

can you consider some better subs? can you stretch your speaker budget for some components like pg rds 6.5 (just an example of some very decent budge components)? are you willing to make baffles to fit them (dont say you cant, its quite easy to do)? ohh wait! how about you read the posting guildlines first then comeback with more info....

the Infinity system uses 2-ohm speakers IIRC, but to answer your question, the mid and the tweeter both receive the same signal, the crossover is integrated into the tweeter alright cool. i think ill just throw in some cheapy coaxs and call it a day.

    Welcome to the IHoP

quick question guys, 1st gen dodge durango w/ infinity sound system. Are there any xover's splitting up the frequencies between the mid and tweet or can i just throw in some cheapy coax's? just replacing blown speakers for my gf's mom. actually im not sure what ill put in. anyone know if there are some uber cheap coax worth looking at?

    tri-way?

dont bash this idea to hard but id like to hear some thoughts on it. alittle info: dad drives a 03 f150 and his equipment right now is a Panasonic hu, polk db 5.25" coax upfront and a cheapy clarion sub (4ohm svc) in a box behind the center console in the backseat and a 2 channel amp that is bridged to the sub. amp is a walmart sony xplod... so we're talking maybe 150x2 @ 4 ohms (probably less). my idea: make him a tri way crossover... (really i just want to mess around to see if it works) so, if i understand the idea, i would set the amp to full range and design a passive xover for the speakers. so the sub would be bridged to 4 ohms and a lpf will be used @ ~70hz and the speakers would be high passed at ~100hz, each with a seperate xover? add Lpad (i think this is what they are called: reduces power to mids) to the mids. this doesnt have to sound good but he's looking for alittle more output from the mids... and i think it would be a fun project while im on break... not like i dont have enough to do with my car lol....

    Help choosin Fi speaker

even the entry level (cheap) sub from the ssa store should be nicer then anything audiobahn ever made... i fit a pretty good size box in a friends cav. so you should have no real problem fitting a larger box. the one you have is most likely garbage. like i said have one made according to spec. jaycee also linked you the wrong picture. you want a dual 1 ohm dvc sub and wire the coils in series for 2ohm load. ill pull up the right diagram for you.

Why doesnt my Q 12 work?

Will do. As far as specs. Sub is in a ported 2.5 cuFT box, alpine mrd1000 amp with stock electrical system. Amp worked fine on replacement sub. Amp gain is all the way down. Ive only had the sub for 6 months or so. did you pull the sub and check connection, and put a dmm on the coils?

how the hell did you determine this? sounds to me like you have no idea what your talking about..
  22. no shit, the only output entering the cabin was from the port... OP, if you want to do a wall, do some searching around to find out the reasoning behind the wall in the first place.

Also do you think a cap or extra battery is called for ? How many farads or how big of a battery? My deck only has one subwoofer output , so should i get a line driver. im going to rewire my subs also at 2 ohms what size wire is best ? Thanks for all the help No cap, what is your vehicle and what is your alternator's output in amps? I would say do the Big 3 Wiring, get a 100AH battery and a voltmeter to watch your voltage and you should be ok. When it comes to speaker wire then anywhere from 10 gauge to 14 gauge would be fine on your subs but some do 8 gauge and that is overkill to me unless you got some powerful subs. Whats the big three? Is it the battery ,alternator, thing. Im not sure how to do it but i can do some looking around on the web. Its a olds mini van the batterys volts are 15 at the amp. whats a 100h battery. thanks when the amps draw power from the cars electrical, batteries and alt, the voltage drops. to monitor the voltage install a voltage meter. this is important because low voltage will FRY!!! your amps. 100ah batter is just a ratting on the battery. so what u need to do are: (this list is what jaycee said and his recommendation, im just simplifying it into a list. to jay cee if this is incorrect let us know) big three voltmeter check battery rating -if ratting is 100ah keep it -if rating is below 100ah you may want to replace it or add a 2nd batt in the trunk.
