so my dad was having problems with is sub today and i went to check it out.. the amp is a cheap ass sony xplod i gave him afew years back. up till now it was working fine. i've never saw this before but the amp is making the sub occillate at a low frequency.here is vid i found of the same shit its doing. should i assume the amp is fucked or is it a signal problem? the door speakers are run off the hu and sound just fine. the amp is located under the front seat so it could have grounded out on some metal possibly and damaged shit.

How about these? http://www.diycable.com/main/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=538 And whatever used sub you find that will fit box size available. i have 3-3.25" depth in the doors or about 3.75-4" in the kicks without taking over the dead peddle. so yes these would work..

    Welcome to the IHoP

putting together a system for my bro, and were ordering about half of it thursday.. err today lol m5, you might remember this build, seems you got a chance to hear it. sentra we'll probably pick up the hu, speakers, amp and wiring 200+150+100+100= $550 hu - alpine 9855 or 9853 + ipod adapter fullrangers: a piller - fountek fr88ex midbass: cannot fit peerless sls 6.5 in the doors. dayton rs180 7" could fit. however the kicks are rather spacious. there is about 2.5 to 3 inches of space behind the kickpanel so a .75" mdf ring or 2 would be plenty to fit the peerless sls 6.5. id rather not try to fit the 8" because it would have to come back towards the driver seat where as the 6.5 would fit on top the stock kick panel. here are some pics from a past build by another user. i do not have the balls to do 8's in the doors haha. front stage amps: would 2 us acoustics usx 2080 work well? 80x2 @4ohm - 12.9v (currently 50 shipped each from audioclinic) could run 3 (1 bridged to each midbass)? another note on the amps, the alpine hu's can only highpass down to 1000 hz so i would have to hp with the amps. the us acoustics can take care of that. power wire: sub amp can put out about 1000-1200 rms. 20 ft of 1 awg, have another 10-15 ft of 0 gauge or 2 awg for big three. found another supplier of wire, this 1 awg is pretty cheap, what do you think? wire and supply 1 awg 8-10 ft of 6 awg for front stage amps. to keep shipping down i figure i will just use the 6 awg welding wire they sell. @ $.90 a foot it looks like a good deal. speaker wire: 50ft roll of 14awg from monoprice rca: will these be good? suggestions? 15ft premium rca's from monoprice accessories: stinger voltage meter distro blocks dash kit harness other shit suggestions? deadening: haven't contacted sds yet, but im thinking that getting rattles under control for now will be best and maybe mlv barrier later on... -ccf behind door panels -butyl rope in the doors, etc -a few tiles in the front doors, maybe 2 on the exterior skin of the both rear doors. hit the rear deck, trunk, and trunk lid good. -spray foam the trunk lid trunk layout my bro wants the sub box to not take up the whole trunk, so i plan to do a false floor to keep the spare tire. amps will be on hinges to allow access to the spare. not real sure how exactly this will look just yet since the subwoofer amp is a fucking surf board. haha too keep some trunk space, there's enough room for a 12" ported box and thats about it. sub(s) not sure here, possibly some used gear. fi bl or ssd if they come out soon. icon 10 :cough: :cough: a pair of refurb sa-8 wouldn't take up much space.

This is a good list for the price. Great product research. Build log coming? Don't be sorry, be happy. Makes WAY more sense. :) I like pretty much everything...except if you have the space, why not a single sub with more cone area. The 8 boner I don't understand unless of course it is for space reasons. Generically speaking a larger cone is always better. And that was generic as space is the dependent factor. This is coming from a guy who had a sealed 8 in his truck and had plenty of bass, I just didn't need more, but with space (which I had, but I diverge) I'd choose a bigger cone area always. Obviously two gives you some of that, but also changes the box. Sort of like buying two small pizzas or one medium. When you do the math usually the bigger one wins. As for the divergence, I wanted the 8 for a longer term project in doors, so thought lets give it a shot. ill be doing a log for his car and i have to post my A pillar pictures soon as well. ohya, forgot to say we're not ordering for another few weeks. i wasn't sure where to go with the sub. he doesn't want a big sub again so i was thinking a 10" fi bl but thats out of the price range. i could probably do a single ported 12 but i really need to see how much space he will give me. budget would be about 250 max for sub(s), probably looking used but i'd like to come up with some new options as well. any idea's? <cough> icon <cough> edit: was considering the new ssd if they are still coming out too. wish mach 5 still made some ixl 10's or 12's. anyone got a better option on the amps? i was looking at just a kicker 350.4 (refurbs as low as 130) but i thought more power on the midbass would be worth it. audioclinic has a us acoustics 2080 and 2150 for a little cheaper. i only choose the kickers because thats what i run haha. ill probably do a false floor to hid these amps so its not a beauty contest.

putting something together for my bro for under a grand.. (change of plans m5, sold him on used gear) alpine 9855 - ebay 200 - 225 kicker zx250.2 - ebay 115 kicker zx100.2 - ebay 80 sundown sa-8 x2 - refurb (forum) - 85 each (probably another 20 shipping) - total ~200 speakers - im thinking sls 6.5 and Fountek FR88EX 3" fullrange - 150 total - 770, leaving 230 for deadening, wiring (already have some power wire for big 3) sub amp already bought - approximately 1k @ 2ohm, 1.5k @ 1ohm... probably run 2 sa-8's at 2ohm to leave room to add another later if he likes. fucking sentra 80amp alt and probably a tiny battery upfront so running more then 1k probably wont go well. reason for the 8's is that he doesn't want a big box in the trunk like he had with his L7 15". probably could do better on the front stage amps. not sure about speaker selection either... i've done sls 8 and peerless 3 and that sounded pretty decent. gotta take some measurements of the door but im definitely not getting some sls 8's in there lol. maybe dayton mids, they are a bit shallower iirc.

    3 way component set opinions

unless your current hu is capable of active processing then 400 isnt enough to go active. as far as passive 3way sets go, bravox has been popular recently. here is a link to a member's build this set in within your budget-bravox

i know word 2010 will let you do this by double clicking the side left or right side of the page.. "If you have the 'click and type' option enabled you will be able to do this. Click on the Tools menu and choose Options. Click on the Edit tab to bring it to the front. See if there is a check mark in front of 'Enable click and type' if not, click on it to enable it. Type your name and leave it left aligned. Bring your cursor to the right hand side of your page and double click. You will now be able to type the date and it will be right aligned."

I need help choosing a sub.

kickers are cheap because they're shit.. so are u limited to 2 cubes? if not how much space do you have? what are your music tastes? what are your current system and install (ie, any deadening)? what are your goals? whats wrong with the sub you have? maybe a new box or some sound deadening would get you the results your looking for without spending 250 on more shit! read the posting guidelines and try again...

What are these songs you are referring to? Decaf is the screen name of a guy who mixes music just for us bassheads, I have all his stuff t when a friend wants to hear something with bass in my car i play this just to fuck with them.. usually they are like "wtf, harry potter?" and then the car begins to shutter... surprising what an mj18 and 150 watts can do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-RpVCSsjpU
