    Welcome to the IHoP

He could paint or dye it, but it would fade twice as fast. decided to just redo them in gray. no idea why i picked the tan color haha. sanding the flock/glue off is a bitch

    Sub Choice?

w6 vs xcon? totally different subs... i've heard a icon 12" ported, sounds very good and can get loud. you could do a 10 ported to save space.. maybe two 10s or 12s sealed.

here's some more shots.. very strange design coil pack, bank of 3 those rubber things extended down and covers the top of the plug. inside there is something like a spring, so NO wires.

You wouldn't like where I went to school then. 3 days is a long time for an 8 pager. x2 <<<<< never wrote an 8 pager We used to write 2500-3000 word papers every 2 weeks in one semester. And my 55 page diploma project was written in about 10 days... wow, so was that required to graduate?

2000 oldsmobile intrigue 3.5l.LX5 (shortstar), based on the northstar if that helps. these engines are known to burn some oil. i also have a small leak somewhere i believe. 194k miles and still running so i cant complain, i bought it with 118k. has been pretty reliable as well, very little maintenance besides some senors, 2nd time changing plugs, and the usual brake, rotors, and tires.

    rear speakers?

umm no.. thats not how to properly do rear fill. the op doesn't need rear fill, he needs a proper front stage.
  9. http://bcae1.com/gaincon2.htm essentially, if you lower the gain on the 800 rms amp, it will produce the same average power as the 500 rms amp. try reading the article, its a bit more complicated then you think. on the other hand your over thinking things. setting your gain isn't an exact science or anything. set the gain to give you the output you desire, without causing excessive voltage drop (there will always be some drop), and without sending an audibly distorted signal to the sub (if you can hear distortion, turn it down). the amount of drop will vary with the music your listening to. not all music is recorded at the same level. you have control of the volume knob so when you see it the voltage dropping, turn it down. btw, this really isnt enough power to cause massive voltage drop (unless your car electrical suckkks), you might have some dimming but if you do the big 3 you should be fine. i doubt that mb quarts amp puts out more power then the kicker to begin with. here is another option, new alpine mrp 500, 500 rms @ 2 ohm. my friend beat the fuck out of his, @ 1ohm which it isnt rated for, for a year or 2, before it gave up the ghost. you can find them for 150 or so but i without a warranty, if that matters. if you pick the alpine or kicker all you need is: -4 gauge kit (or buy power wire/ inline fuse separate) -distro blocks to wire up other amp -some 8 gauge power wire to hook up amps -voltage meter if you worried about it -extra 4 gauge or 0 gauge to do big three -rca's this cadence wire performed well in a test performed by a forum member recently. http://www.ebay.com/sch/Installation-Products-/32806/i.html?_nkw=cadence&_catref=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m1538 - used the 8 gauge myself, and its pretty decent quality.

    Subwoofer selection/ box help.

as far as cleaning up the appearance, i would think down firing the subs would be a better option right off the bat (port could be forward or back i guess). you can mock up some feet for your current box and tell us if you loose output. i would design the box to look like a stock center console. im sure you can find some pics online of ppl doing this. its quite popular. once you come up with a design you can let us know how much air space you have. from there we can tell you what will fit and what wont fit. also, i dont see why you want to use a lot of fiberglass unless this is a show vehicle? your already attracting a lot of unwanted attention with that box just sitting in the middle of your truck.. just looking at things, it looks like a single 12" ported would be the lease intrusive, in terms of box size (i seriously doubt a 15 in the correct size ported box will fit correctly) based on your goals, it sounds like your looking for sub(s) that are more focused on output. something like a Fi BL, or similar, would be a good place to start.

    rear speakers?

did you amp your past set ups? sds, get reading! check out the sound deadening section of the forum as well. -sounds like you didn't deaden things correctly last time. 30 tiles will be plenty to do the front doors and more. i did my bro's 04 sentra with ~40 tiles total. front doors, rear deck, roof, trunk floor/walls, and trunk lid. followed by mlv and ccf in the front doors. don (sds) believes you dont need to seal the access holes in the doors if you use mlv in the manner he describes. or if you dont want to spend cash on mlv, i would use sheet metal or fg to seal holes instead of sds tiles. try the "ask don of sds thread" for specific help. is that 200 for speakers and amp? the IA comps and Aura sound comps have been mentioned. not sure how much power the aura can take or how loud they can get compared to the IA or others. parts-express also has a sale on the aura sound amps, i recommend them if you haven't picked an amp yet. the larger of the two 2-channels for 99 would be great.

  13. just 1, d4 sub right? for the price on ebay, you can get the mb quart 1.1500d for about the same as a 1000. same goes for the audiopipe (ap 1000, 1500) if it was me, get the one rated higher and turn it down a bit. also this option gives you room to add a 2nd sub later on, wire @ 1ohm (compared to the kicker zx, which cant run 1ohm). i think a kicker amp would be better quality. a zx500.1 @ 2ohm vesus either mb quart amp would be just as loud to the ear. but you cant expand later on i you want more power or if you want to run a 2nd sub, really not much of a difference with whatever you pick. you could save up for something better if your worried about quality. its not likely that any of these amps would disappoint you considering the price. buying used is also an option. my vote would be the mb quart 1500. and make sure to do the big 3! assuming the amp isn't defective, the only way your going to break them is low voltage. like i said, do the big 3 and get a volt meter. this isn't fool proof but its the minimum you should do.

You wouldn't like where I went to school then. 3 days is a long time for an 8 pager. x2 <<<<< never wrote an 8 pager My senior comps were 80 pages and Physics. *pukes* I write something of equivalent to an 8 pager every week on top of everything else I get to do. 80 pages sounds unreal.. i've done several 4-5 page papers, mostly for philosophy and comp courses. usually i can finish them in a night, depending on the subject, if i have to.

    rear speakers?

what have been your front stage in past vehicles? whats your budget? edit: if you haven't done this already in the past: id focus your budget on a set of components that can handle a good bit of power and amp them. sound deaden/ seal the doors, etc. if that didnt' work then we can consider other options, like an active frontstage, etc. rear speakers wont do anything good, i would just forget about them now.

my dad is picking up the 6.5 comps and the small 2 channel for his f150. previously he was running a pair of polk db 5.25 coax of a deck power. should be a nice upgrade. i can give something of a review if anyone is interested. for comparison i use to run a set of pg rsds in my car.. however i had deadened and sealed doors.

    SPL--SUNDOWN vs KICKER vs HIFONICS

Ouch, don't miss out on the cosine. It can be a huge benefit. Can't say I've ever owned a car where all the drivers were wired in phase. Enough tangents, lets get back on topic people! lol i had to do it..

    uber budget speaker find

Looked into that part number and it says its from a 2005-2006 Ford GT. Now Is that a mustang GT or an actual GT? Either way do you think theses are good speakers? they're 55 dollar speakers. how good do you want them to be? haha it seem some ppl on other sites are picking them up but no real reviews or comparison yet. maybe in a few days some will give their impressions. or pick some up and tell us about them? Well with the original they have on there at 140, I'd expect something good. I just want them to be able to put out some decent bass without blowing up. i did some more research and found this http://www.motoringinvestments.com/AC201.htm, check out the stock speakers pictured about 2/3 to 3/4 the way down the page... looks like the aura's but under the mcintosh name? if you look at the pictures on partsexpress, the magnet has a cover over it. i think, chances are aura built these speakers for mcintosh and/or rebranded them. Well with the original they have on there at 140, I'd expect something good. I just want them to be able to put out some decent bass without blowing up. FIXED speakers wont play bass but i know what your saying. might get loud enough for you depending where you cross them. let us know how what you think if you get them.
