This does not seem to be the right tread. I tried a search but could not get the review. Could you post a new link? Thanks
-
Ignore that last post. MY bad. I guess in the last couple of years DRMS has moved everything to private contractors and is making most of the auctions on-line. Seems you have to go through GL for it now. Just another way for the Gov to get less money and private contractors to get more.

Why not just go to the source? Much of the Gov equipment is sold through the DLA DRMS (Defense Logistics Agency Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service). See if there is going to be an sale near you. http://www.drms.dla.mil/

Alpine 9885 heat sink VERY hot

Yep definitely an amp issue. I turn the internal amp off and no heat. Got to return it. Sad because I paid $90 at BB for an open box. They were sell all the 9885's new for 119 since they where being discontinued. No more new ones so I took he open box. Now I'll have to start my search all over :-( -

sqguy -- Thanks. After several calls to Alpine and checking speaker and ground connections they felt it was a internal amp short. But I guess I'll check turning the internal amp off first since that was one test I didn't do. If it's truly an internal amp short that should keep it cool(er). It got so hot that, with no speakers connected, I burned my skin after 10 minutes. Alpine stated that it should be warm but not burn your skin. Otherwise I'm going to return it for a replacement. -

K Thanks. I guess I'm not going to need to duct some AC to keep it cool then -

I got a 9885 a week ago and was installing today. It's going into a 86 Mercedes so I connected everything temporarily to make sure the wiring was correct. After setting it up and running it for about 10 minuets the rear heat sink was to hot to touch. Normal? If not what might be causing this or do I need to return to BB? -

I wish I could. Unfortunately the closest dealer for DLS and/or CDT, different dealers, is in NJ (3-4 hours away) And since I can't compare side by side I'm not sure it's worth the drive there and back. -

I guess it would also help me figure out which forums have active members that respond and thus are worth staying with. -

Yes I've posted to several. I assume, maybe wrongly, that the best way to get a good cross section of opinions would be to post to several forums because of the diversity of people viewing. If most forums have the same people on them then I'm sorry, new to the audio sound forum space, and will try and remove some posts. -

I'm amping them with zapco DC 360.4 and 350.2. I'd like to install them in a custom made kick and in modified A pillars of a 1986 MB 560SL -
Well, it looks like I got screwed on eBay on my speaker purchase so I'm in the market for speakers, AGAIN. What do you all think about the items listed above? I can get all for about the same price, 450-500, new. Help please Thanking you in advance Mike
