  1. I did a quick search and it seems like an XCON in a sealed box is acceptable but curious to hear some additional opinions and or suggestions for a new setup in my New Jeep. I have had my 12" XCON powered by a Rockford T1500 running at 4ohms in a large ported box (forget dimensions) and it's been great for years. I'm looking to put a new system in my Jeep Grand Cherokee but I don't want the huge box in the back exposed. So I'm leaning towards a sealed setup. I could switch it up all together but I'd prefer to use the gear I already have. Opinons? Box design suggestions? Anyone else have a Jeep GC?
  2. Yes I would plan to keep it at 4 ohms. I guess my goals are to keep the box below the screen things that hides the possessions in the trunk. I need to get the measurements but I'm thinking I will have to have to sub fire up. My plans are to replace all the speakers in the doors and power those as well. I listen to all types of music but more electronoic/dubstep than anything else. Not doing any competitions or anything I feel pretty confident that no matter what I do the sub will pound with it being in the back seat. VS before it was in the trunk of my car In a ported box. Let me know if I forgot anything else Thank you

    SSA order wait time?

The 21 days is rarely close to accurate. Plan on 45+ business days.... If you do this you will have more accurate expectations... In the off chance they beat it.. bonus! That being said they make awesome subs! I love my XCON. i would not think twice about ordering another but the 21+ bus day delivery is misleading.
  4. Any recommendations out there? I'm looking to get a Double DIN Non Nav unit with at least 4v preouts. I will have powered door speakers and then my SSA XCON in the rear powered by the RF T1500. Thanks for any recommendations.
  5. Out of curiosity why is it that single din decks offer better sq?
  6. Not interested in either..... So far that is the "best" I've found with the criteria I've set. Again I'm open to suggestions that may be better while still falling into the double din non nav units.
  7. Lol. Care to elaborate or make a suggestion?
  8. I think I found a front runner... Kenwood eXcelon DDX-8901HD
  9. Thanks. Yeah I have very limited skills in this area. Never actually amp'd the door speakers. I'm just going one step at a time and I figured I should get the Head-unit first and build out from there.
  10. Use a good quality one with a mini dsp. There are so many options. Running active will give you the best "SQ". yeah sorry I guess I'm still pretty noob when it comes to most of this stuff. I don't want to have to run a separate dsp. I want the best SQ I can get given the limited budget I'm working with an limited expertise. I'm not planning to get crazy or anything. I want to have some powered speakers with a 4 channel amp ~75rms per channel. My car has 6.5" speakers in the doors and tweeters up on the dash. probably looking to spend ~$200ish give or take on the front speakers and probably less on the rear. I know most people say to ignore the rear but I do want to have speakers back there. Is there a simple way to understand active vs passive? Isn't active using a DSP?
  11. I'm nearly positive I will not be running active front stage.
  12. I'd prefer to keep it around $500 give or take.

    Home Subwoofer placement issues

So I tested this out briefly last night. It actually worked pretty well. I think i'm screwed with trying to use that cubby but when I had it pulled outside of it and maybe 2ft away from the fireplace it was not nearly as bad. Still had some rattle but I think with a little more placement tweaking I can minimize it further. now the dillema is getting this thing returned without a hassle.

    Home Subwoofer placement issues

Hey Guys. I bought a Klipsch SW-450 sub for my house. I am having issues with it wanting to shake down the entire side of the house it's on, rather than provide clean crisp bass. There is lots of interior walls and small rooms near the subwoofer (laundrey, halfbath) It's located in a somewhat small foot printed nook but has lots of headspace. main floor so basement is underneath but the back wall that the port fires into is an exterior wall. Is a downfiring sub rear port a bad idea in this case? later tonight I'm going to try and fit it in an identical nook on the otherside of the living room that has two exterior walls supporting it. I'm hoping the rigidity there will help. I can get pictures later if needed. let me know what other info you guys might need. Should I be looking for a front firing front ported sub in this case? thanks.

Yep both. Behind was ok but output was not great and it really does not look well behind the sofa.

    Home Subwoofer placement issues

Hey man. Thanks for those links. It's definitely not a gain issue. I played around with it a bunch last night moved it all over. Some areas are better than others but I'm still getting vibrations. I've traced most of them back to the fireplace. It sucks because I don't know how to fix that. I've thought about damplifier proing the thing lol but not sure it's a good idea. We do plan to use the fireplace often. image by ChadS13TDI, on Flickr

2013 Passat TDI (My Slow Build)

Hello, Figured I would start a thread in here as I plan to log my install progress and plans. It's going to be a long slow process but I'm hoping to have the first part completed by the first or second week of June. What I have planned so far. SUB: 12" XCON Ported. AMP: RF t1500-1bdcp (running at 4ohms for now) Lc6i Damplifier Pro Trunk Kit. (plans to do the whole car over time) Stock Electricals... Future plans: More Damplifier Door Speakers all around Powered (not sure what I want yet) Possibly a second battery in the trunk (I have the ability to install an OEM fit and finish battery in the trunk.) Loooooong term plans: New Headunit. This weekend I will start laying down the Damplifier. I'm currently awaiting delivery of my XCON. so my project is pretty much snailed until that shows up. I will get some pictures up this weekend once I get the Damplifier and power wire ran. Thanks for checkin it out!

Your design. Remember. . 2.8cubes @33. Due to my amateur woodworking skills I think the tuning ended up being 31.5 ish tho. Yes now I do!! It was a while ago and I've designed a few more boxes since then. Turned out good man! Haha. Thanks man. It was quite a while ago when I started this project. How come you took your zcons out for one xcon?

2013 Passat TDI (My Slow Build)

On the Passat? TDI specific, I love it. It works well for me. I commute 100miles roundtrip every day just for work so it's a nice comfy ride that get's great MPG, and it's not a gutless Prius or some other hybrid. The DSG transmission is quirky but if you're capable of adapting it's an awesome transmission. I am about to turn 30k in 1yr 2weeks of ownership. my lifetime mixed MPG is 42. I routinely get 50mpg on the way into work when traffic is calm and usually low 40's on the way home. The TDI is not a MPG beast in the city, you have to get out and drive at least 10-15miles cruising before you get up there in MPG. that being said the city MPG is no slouch you will be in the 30's easy. With the technology in the car I am scared to death of a catostrophic failure that will cost me thousands. Drivetrain is good for 60k, and I will probably look at getting the geico MB insurance to mitigate any out of warranty issues and for some piece of mind. Service costs were covered for first 3yr 36k, but oil changes every 10k, 40k for trans, 120k (I think for timing, and DPF). Overall I'm not sure that you would be saving yourself much money by going TDI diesel vs loaded 4cylder camry, but for me i was willing to pay the premium for the TDI to enjoy a little more refinement, a nicer drivetrain (I hate CVT transmissions and a 4cyl camry prob has at least 50ft tq less than the tdi. Plus Diesels if maintained can drive hundreds of thousands of miles and if I continue at this pace of driving my TDI will be better suited than a 4cylder camry. Probably more info than you wanted but that's my .02. Let me know if you have any questions about it.
