I know I'm bumping a oldish thread but you can buy a tachometer with an inductive pickup for distributorless vehicles.

Damn man after watchin that video.. haha.. your van is awesome. Congrats on the win... nice amp rack too.

Whats out there thats relatively beginner friendly? I want to see if I can do a ported box for 3 MJM-18s or 2 IXL-12.2.2s..
-
I don't know where I can learn to do it on paper... theres no like "audio school" around...
-
I definitely don't know how to do that.

I'm not really sure what I'm going to do for a battery. I still might buy the Orion 2500D and run it at 1/2 ohm. Im going to be doing a 6.2 diesel swap in the future and I can use a 200 amp generator, and have it charge a couple rear batteries and the Orion will run off that.
-
then what would you use??

I have WinISD "Beta".... not overly sure how to use it, does it give you cutout diemensions?
-
So the 122000 is a good battery? I will call and see how much it will cost. EDIT... OMG. $672 dollars. Deep cycle optimas are $325 IIRC..

Theres a box tool on this site?

Directed 2400D vs. Orion 2500D
gearstix posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
The subs I'm most likely getting are the Mach 5 IXL-12.2.2...two of them, and they are only Dual 2. With the Orion, I'd need to run it @ 0.5 ohm. With the Directed, I can run it @ 2 ohm. With the Directed, it has to come across the border. Which would you get? I can get both for the same price, but the Directed has to come across the border.. -
I'd be running a universal 200amp alternator if I can find one, dedicated to the stereo. As far as I know I'll be picking up some of the old heat sink design SAZ-1500ds, two of them, and strapping them.

I am in Canada, and I'm just looking for a few options, and shipping and stuff will cut into my budget. I was going to go with two Mach 5 IXL-12.2.2s and an Orion 2500D. The subs are only Dual 2. However, Mach 5 is Canadian and the Orion is also in Canada. I'm looking for some alternatives. Whatever combos you guys can come up with, for around 800 bucks for the sub(s) and amp(s) and shipping to Canada....

How man would I need you reckon? 200 amp hours. The Powermaster D3100 "only" has 117 AH. A Kinetik HC 2400 "only" has 128 AH. An Optima Yellow Top "only" has 120 AH, the higher the better. I'm not sure about the MAX amps the 122000 is though... Not how many amp hours I'd need How many batteries Oh!!!! HAHA! WOW, it's my bedtime... What does your charging system look like again? Not sure what you mean. I'll be running a universal alternator, and it will charge the rear batteries, then the saz-1500ds will be ran off the rear batteries.

I'll measure the space when I get home. I seen a vid of 3 MJ-18s on a SAZ-1500D on youtube... looked pretty crazy... actually hang on now.. ..... about 1 minute later... Says it does a 146.4 If I could get close or surpass that with four in my truck I'd definitely be happy... -
How thick is the trupan?

a box wouldnt be hard to design a box and 4 18's would be sick on a 2500d. do you have a 2500d already if so that helps money a lot? put the cap on and see how far from the bed floor to bottom of the window is and go from there if you want help let me know. No I don't have the 2500D but I can get a pretty decent deal on it... I can get a pretty good idea of how much space there will be from the floor to the window with the cap off. There should be tons of room there for the MJMs, the box can take up the whole space of the bed.. I don't care. -

The Orion 2500D puts out 2500W @ 1 ohm.... so 4 SVC4 subs = 1ohm.... -

I was kinda thinkin 4 of those MJM-18s and that Orion 2500D... My box guy don't really like the MJMs... I'm so confused to be honest. If I knew how do design a box I'd do a box that would lay flat like those pics, 4 18s in a ported box, and just put a baffle over top the box like in that pic and seal it to the truck... done... but I was told by somebody on SMD that it might turn into a bandpass by accident or something and mess with tuning... argggggh.,.... -
Gearstix, I will be doing the back part of my roof in the Frontier this weekend when the new box goes in. I am still using my old headliner (unless I somehow destroy it pulling it out) but I will get pics to show how it all goes together for you. You will have the tightest rattle-free roof after you build yours. Pics up by Monday. Did you ever post up those pics mdex?

Whats involved in doing a MDF roof? My headliner is shot, and i don't want to spend 350 for a replacement headliner. I think it would be nice cause I could make a console for the roof to mount stuff..
