I was just wondering if it is ok to use that rubberized undercoating stuff that comes in a can for the inside of speaker boxes? If it is possible to use would I benefit from it? I'm not looking to but if I do thats fine, I really just want to seal up any "potential" leaks and make sure it won't hurt.

Elemental Designs Amps
audioman21 posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I started this topic because I've seen some negative remarks around the internet about their products but not necessarily(sp) why. I personally own two Nine.1's and a Nine.4. I'm not trying to start anything in any way or any kind of fight or flaming, I just want to know why some people don't like them. I'm thinking of running new amps and I'm trying to decide if its worth it or keep what equipment i got. Personally I'm happy with them and thats what matters, but I just want to hear from other views. Mods- like i said I'm not trying to cause any problems just looking for the stereo community's thoughts. I'm sorry if this post is against any rule and please delete or lock if it is. -
It doesn't matter what ohm your speakers wired at, if you got everything maxed your still clipping the sub. like Notorious said wire it to 2 ohms and turn the gain down. Also you should use little to no bass boost. Oh, stay away from caps too get a small Kinetik 600 or something similar you will get way better results from an extra battery than you ever will from a cap.

Just wondering if anybody knows anything about the Rockford Fosgate RF-BLD. it says install it as close to the source unit as possible, why is that? Why can't it go in the trunk by the amp?

Audio Control matrix (line driver)
audioman21 posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Anybody have any suggestions, pros or cons about this? I have a nice JVC (forget the model#) that has a bad a@@ equalizer and five volt preouts, and basicly everything I want in a headunit. I've done a lot of research on here and in general about line drivers, some people swear by them and some say they are a waste of money. Anyways I came across an Audio Control video that explained the said line driver and they were saying that like power wire rca's tend to lose a little power with longer runs and could possibly pick up noise and such. In general I'm looking to get just the cleanest signal I can get and was wondering if i could get that by adding this piece? I'm not worried about the price, I just want to know if this would be beneficial or not? I know Audio Control makes superior stuff. I was also looking into a new line driver type deal Rockford has out but I need a three in three out deal and the Fosgate was only one in one out. By the way heres a link to the matrix. 12" 09 BL causing dimming

if you just installed the sub there might be a chance that you wired it below 1 ohm, you may want to check that out too. Also re-trace your wiring to make sure nothing came loose. Definatly get that big three done that PT reccommended. -

Doesn't seem like its missing something, I just want the rca's to have the strongest signal and clarity possible even if there is some overkill. I know its already good just seeing if threse a way to make it even better. -
What size rims and what setup is on/in that Monte Carlo?
-
i thought i was done deciding on my new setup but something else crossed my mind, and now I need a little help choosing. I'm gonna be running the SSA Dcons which are 300 rms a piece. My amp is the Elemental Designs Nine.1(1200 rms). Instead of building the system around the car I've decided to get a car around my system, though the car will probably be around a 95-97 Cutlass Supreme or Monte Carlo. The new dilemma I have is I want something different than the usual, which will be 10's I just can't decide on 3 or 4. I know that in a trunk car subs back port back is louder to the ear (the three tens) but if I did four 10's sub up port back would that be louder since there will be more cone area? I heard four 10's in a suv with a sealed box before that was insane I just don't know if I'd get the same results out of a trunk with it ported. I'm not worried about metering well though it would be nice to pull a good number if need be. I'm more into the bass that tickles your nose hairs and you can feel when you breathe and sounds solid. So with all that info if you guys could let me know what would be the better advantage for me or what you would do. I tried to give as much info as needed but if i left out something let me know.

Anton, could i achive your level with two 600 watt 12's? And wiould I achieve same reults with two 12's? I seen your vids your shit slams.
-
Do you think I'd get the same results if i ran two 600 watt 12's instead of say three 10's?
-
I have no idea why but for some reason i'm set on multiple 10's. I guess maybe a little more cone area than two 12's, more motor strength=more heat dissipation. Theres just something about 10's that appeals to me. Also I'd be able to have sufficient airspace without choking them wether I did the three or four. I want to do a traditional setup without firing it foward and sealing it off from the cabin. i'm actually stepping down from two DC level four 12's with level five coils and two Elemental Designs Nine.1's. I guess also, i want to step down power wise with just using one nine.1 but kinda step up in a sense with doing multiple 10's. The DC's were loud but i just wasn't feeling them for some odd reason. If I did three 10's rear firing I'd do all same chamber with a slot port running the length of the bottom probly around 3.5 -4cf.. if I do four I'd do up firing same chamber with a rear firing port. basiclly trying to see if adding a fourth ten and up firing would be more noticeable than three rear firing.
-
are you just dead set on 3 or more 10"s? just one 12" sub could get you exactly where you want to be. i have friends that say exactly what your saying, but then when they hear my single 12 they say its too loud for what they want. so dont just think you need alot to achieve what your doing. so i dont think you need 3 10"s to get what you want. and i think it may be fairly dificult to have 3 10"s firing back and have room for a port on that same face, but idk the size of your trunk. My vote is 1 12" Icon or Fi Audio Q or BL.

Any other opinions? Back in the day when I knew very little about car audio I had a Powerbass 15" in a sealed enclosure ran off a Rockford 850.4. That was in an Olds Acheiva facing up. I was clipping the hell out of it(newbness) and smoked it, but for the few days that it was working it pounded like no other for what is was. Earlier in the post i talked about hearing four 10" Rockford P1's sealed in an suv that was ran off of a Rockford T3002 that actually was the loudest I've ever heard. What I'm getting at is if running the four would be worth it. i'm not worried about numbers i just want that clean bass that makes it a little hard to breath. We all know that three rear firing is more practical and will net great results. I just don't know if with that 15" in the Achieva, I may have got lucky and that worked for that kind of car. I've looked on youtube and read post after post about the kind of setups i'm talking about but nothing useful has turned up yet. Sorry to ramble on and on guys I'm just lost. I have money for subs and its buring a hole in my pocket to order something(everybody knows exactly what how I feel). I have the sub choice just don't know the quantity.

Elemental Designs Amps

As far as their customer service I do know that that is a joke but as far as my amps I think they are pretty d*mn reliable from my experience. Also they are rated at 1200 watts at 1 ohm on 12.8, so if you got a good electrical you should see 1400-1500 watts. I do hope that this thread stays adult. I'm not putting down nor saying their the best, just curious to see why they seem to get looked down on. -
I've been eyeing the Dcons for a month or two and now that the price was dropped I'm defineatly getting three. I just don't know if i want tens or twelves. My question is how much wattage is safe for them? I plan on running them with an Elemetal Desings Nine.1 at one ohm for 1200 watts. I know the Dcon's are rated for three hundred watts and my amp is underatted and with my electrical upgrades I'd be at 1400-1500 watts. With all that said should i just go easy on the gains or downgrade my amp?
-
What kind coil config. would you guys recommend also? Being that I'll have a trio and get a funky final load should i get the dual four ohm for a 0.67 final load and count on box rise? I have the electricals to back it up. Or a dual two ohm for a 1.33 final load?

Elemental Desgins Nine.1 $200!!
audioman21 replied to cool_david2006's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Amps are actually great for the money but they have the poorest customer service. I have two Nine.1's and a nine.4. The nine.1's actually put out 1400-1500 watts on good electrical. -
The reason I don't know what size subs I want yet is I'm actually getting the car around my system. I'm stuck between a 95-99 Monte Carlo or Cutlass Supreme Coupe or a full size sedan like a Crown victoria or grand Marquis. I didn't want to suffocate the subs. When I order them I'll buy some plans off somebody on the forum. Sound wise I'm just going for overall good sound nothing crazy, I'm actually stepping down from two DC level four 12"s with level five coils off of two Elemental Designs Nine.1's strapped. I had them in a little Cavalier and it just tore the h@ll out of the trunk. Don't get me wrong I want to pound good still just toned down. I've done my homework and all my comparing and overall the Dcon's seem to be what i'm looking for. Also you don't see alot of SSA subs so its different than the usual. The price drop they just put on the Dcon's really takes the cake for me. So you guys say roughly 3.5 cubes (give or take) on a trio of 10's with my wattage? I like the loooows too so what freq. would you recommend?

With that kind of power what kind of airspace would i need for a 10" or a 12" times 3?

Nice vid, sucks that it blew. What song was that?

Gounding amps
audioman21 replied to audioman21's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I have a Powermaster for the trunk. just double-checkin on that. The grounds from the amp to the battery are gonna be roughly 2-3 feet apart. -
I'm planning a build and i'm thinking about amp placement. I know that amps should be grounded around 18" or less but i've seen builds where the grounds are four plus feet, anyone care to shed light on this, is it ok if excellent wire is used? BTW the build was from a person whos name that can't be mentioned.
