Problem with getting my 15" Fi Q to sound right.
NDMstang65 replied to Trepkos's topic in General Fi
said it once..i'll say it again sub's are dumb, they do what they are told in the environment in which they are in... Honestly probably some really weird loading issues going on there, you'd probably be far better off going with a gang of smaller subs spread across the cab, than one single big woofer. -
holiday weekend man

Nope..I shouldn't be working either...so i think i'll stop for the weekend. See ya monday.

Perhaps you didn't understand me. I refuse to use paypal period. I will not support a buisness that is run by a bunch of crooks. If paypal is your only option I guess I will shop elsewhere. They process our credit cards. Just like when you go to the grocery store and use your credit card. They aren't going to charge you any extra or anything....unless you want to mail a check in your card will be processed via paypal regardless. You aren't 'using' paypal, your using your credit card and they are processing it for us, not you.
-
Nope You don't have to use paypal, Paypal is the place that processes the credit cards, you don't have to have paypal to order off of the website.

lol Is that the old warble tone that warbleed (kurt) used to have?

18" Recone is $128, UPS is saying it'l be $47 to ship it.

1.4 is what it should be

All of the X's are gone, you'll actually have to go through Am at blade ice now since he's set up as the distributor for Europe now.

Nick permission to use this line in my sig please.... this is the greatest line i've heard used to describe a sub... It's so true that it's funny as hell Sure, i've said it for years lol . Because it's the truth...they are dumb. They don't destroy themselves, and they don't mess up themselves...it does what its told to do .

Don't agree with using a DMM man, they don't tell you when your clipping. You might be at 100% clip wide open to get that :magical: voltage reading that you are looking for at the alleged 2 ohms... Generally speaking, if you go over half way on your gain on your amp you are going to run into issues. RCA voltage is supposed to be matched with your gain. So if you have a 4 volt output deck, you should definitely be at 1/2 gain if not less. Regardless what your DMM says
-
Nope, BTL parts will not work. We have parts that will work though.
-
No you can't set your gains like that. DMM's do not take into account when the amplifier is clipping. If the speaker is distorting then it is picking it up from the amp or from your headunit... Speakers are dumb, they do what you tell them to do, by either the volume knob, or the gain/settings on the amplifier itself.
-
is that jus to much power for that a single 18? If you abuse it, yes. (hence the running at .35ohm) If you don't..then no. Meade doesn't have a problem running tons of power, but his setup is tuned properly, and geared to handle the power and not burn things up.
-
Regardless, you are running your amp at too low of a load, it is putting out more current, than voltage. Causing a heat build up and the glue on the coil to start to melt. Turn it down, don't run it that low...otherwise you will break it.
-
Clipping has nothing to do with the dc voltage going to your amp. Clipping is the square wave of your RCA input signal, when you turn your volume all the way up you will get a dirty signal. Running that amp at .5ohm (which is really .35) is causing it to attempt to put out more current, than voltage. When you do this it will cause the coils to fail. More current is a bad thing, it's simple ohms law... Impedance (resistance) goes down, Voltage goes down, and Current (heat) goes up...causing failure.

So there were no improvements or changes made then? Well thats a relief No, if there were no improvements or changes made then we would not have came out with the new BTL. We're not going to release a new product and spend more money on tooling to get away from the 3 slug motor if there was not a difference. The enclosure recommendations did not change, and will not change, as there is no re-invention of the wheel here. If you notice all of our enclosure recommendations are fairly similar through out the product lineup in regards to frame size. The tolerances that we give you is what we feel is best for a daily driving scenario for our speakers. If you feel the need to be a number junkie about things, sorry. If you'll model the BTL in a box program (Parameters will be up next week) it will tell you to put it in a sealed enclosure at about 11 cubic feet to get a +/- 3dB through the spectrum of interest. This is not the case and all box programs are wrong. The woofer will NOT work in a sealed enclosure to its full potential, sorry. Sorry if you feel that way Phil, only thing I can tell you is do what every single other person has done with our products and follow our recommendations. It's not rocket science and it is not hard to follow. Everybody else has had zero issues with following the guidelines that we have put up, I still do not see why you HAVE to have them to make a box. (as well as every single dimension of the woofer, that to this day still baffles me, in the many years i've been building boxes and fabricating things i have yet to need all the dimensions that you require to build an enclosure) We set the guidelines for a reason, because it is works best for a daily scenario, regardless of what your mind and box program might say/think. Parameters will be up next week sometime... Thanks -Nick Now my question regards port size. I see there is a post indicating to add 12-16 in2 for each foot of volume. What about depth? I know with stuff like the Atomic subs all you need is a 10 inch hole for a port, no depth. What do the BTL's require? They are very forgiving for box size but the port I assume has to be precision to work right. I want to make sure this works, especially when I'm getting ready to butcher a $1000.00 sheet of lexan for a box. The depth of the port is what you have to figure out on your own as it is different for all ranges of the enclosure spectrum for a given tuning frequency, so you say ok i have x amount of cubic feet of volume..i want to use 14sq inches of port per cubic foot... Once you figure out surface area you put the box parameters into a program like winisd and say "I want to tune this to 32Hz" and it will give you a length of the port to be...

$98 shipped. Thanks! -Nick

Working on it, should know by the end of the day guys...

If you could email me all of your information (Name, Address, Exactly what you ordered etc). We're going to go fight with the post office on this one and from now on use UPS...this is absolutely unacceptable. Sorry guys your going to have to pay the fees for UPS, but at least you'll have a tracker.
-
No it's not excess glue, your clipping the heck out of your amp and starting to burn your coils up. NEVER turn the volume all the way up, you shouldn't be running that amp at .5ohm either. That's going to cause the life of your equipment to go south really quick...

Totally understandable and well aware of it. We're putting AA in a different direction in a 100% strict dealer based network. No online sales at all. When the website is done you will be able to search and locate dealers very easily. We haven't really pushed the issue very hard at this point and time until we get a solid dealer base set up, there really is no point in trying to market to customers quite yet.
-
Brian is your dealer..he is located in Texas. Scott owns AA, AA is our dealer based brand.Simply because dealers can not stock 300 different versions of a single speaker that we can do with Fi. AA is geared and focused towards dealers and what they need. We don't care about the internet market with AA. The website is being fixed now and updated as soon as possible with MSRP pricing.
