    Good LSQ subwoofers.

the xxx was a very very nice driver, could easily take 1500wrms. you said that you were looking into the xxx but price has jumped, but are you looking at the "new" xxx or old? the old was xbl2 while the new is very different and VERY power hungry you might consider just one new xxx with both 1500d strapped to it, although im not sure how it does sealed. so now some questions are you looking for brand new drivers or used? the havoc and q are good but there are ome other options you could look into. like maybe some dc sounds lv4, adioque hdc3, IA death penalty(although quite exspensive), soundsplinter rl-s, maybe some ssa icons although with 1500wrms you'd have to careful. of course all these are new if you want to by used there are some more to look at but here are some options.
  2. ya thats what i was thinking but wanted to get more opinions.

    Small system for the wife

finished product looks very good, espically considering what the board looked like to begin with. quick question, what do you have for a front stage?

thnaks for the help, couple questions though one why 25hz? that seems really low for car audio. also the ports will be 28inchs that means i have to put them width so they would be firing into the side of the trunk how will that wrok out?

"These are the T/S specs for the Atlas 15 in its high Qts setting. This alignment is typically only recommended for infinite baffle and dipole use. However, it can also be used to great effect in sealed car audio enclosures to achieve more output down low by creating a powerful bump in the frequency response. This setting typically requires the least power to reach excursion limits, especially in an infinite baffle setup. The lack of an enclosure in an "IB" setup allows the high Qts to give a much more natural frequency response and fantastic sound quality. This setting is generally not recommended for ported enclosures. Below is the wiring diagram for the Atlas 15 in the high Qts setting. Simply leave the gold terminals open and untouched. The connection to the amplifier should be made by using the silver terminals on the subwoofer. Please visit the DIY & Tech Info page to see some recommended enclosures for the Atlas 15 in this setting." This alignment is only recommended if you have a larger enclosure size available. It has lower overall sensitivity than the low Qts and requires larger enclosures. This setting can work very well for home and car audio setups, but home audio ported enclosures tend to get a bit too large. Sealed enclosures work very well, but also need to be bigger. Although the sensitivity is lower overall, the low frequency sensitivity is increased. Because of this, less power is generally needed versus the low Qts setting. Below is the wiring diagram for the Atlas 15 in the mid Qts setting. Simply place a 1.5 ohm resistor across the gold terminals. The connection to the amplifier should be made by using the silver terminals on the subwoofer. For the majority of alignments and uses, this will be the Qts selection of choice. It has the highest overall sensitivity and requires the smallest enclosure. This setting works very well for home and car audio setups. It gives you the smallest sealed enclosures. It also gives you very potent ported enclosures. Unless you have lower power requirements or room for a much larger enclosure, this should be the optimal Qts choice for the Atlas 15. ya i know with one 5inch port i have little port area, i was also thinking of going with 2 4inch ports which would bump up port area to around 26. i could go max 37 wide but it would be very tight and the box would be moved forward about 1 inch so i would only be able to go 19 deep. also the atlas you can adjust the qts so whcih ts specs do you want low qts or high qts?

ok but would that box design work well? its very simple with just a 5in port, or should i go slot ported?

    who's deafdreamz

i got a pm from "deafdreamz" saying to contact him to order DC subs. im just asking exactly who is this guy? not trying to start a fight it just seems odd that he would PM me out of the blue saying somehting like this.

(= DC LvL 4's on the way =)

well i seen the vid before you deleted it, and it looks nice. i think i know what my new sub will be as soon as i get some fvcking money. glad nothing got damaged during shipping. now put that thing in a box and see what it can do.

    what to do

anyone else? i think i'll just make a 4cf ported box tuned to 30hz and see what happens. it has to improve low end over a sealed box.
  13. dustin420

    what to do

well it looks like it'll be awhile before i get a 12 for the grand am, some issues came up and i won't have money for awhile. so untill then i decided to make a box for the atlas to get the most out of it. right now its in a 2.5cf sealed box with 1 pound of pollyfill, it gets decently loud and low but i need more. heres my dilema though after i get a new sub im gonna make the atlas an HT sub so i need an enclosure that will play low well. so i was thinking either going with a 4cf "regular" ported box tuned to 30hz or have someone design me a t-line. my only worry is how will a t-line work in a trunk car and how much space would i have to give. max i would be able to fit around 5cf net in the trunk but i'd like to keep it around 4cf if possible. so my question is would a t-line fit and would it work better than a regular ported box?

(= DC LvL 4's on the way =)

nice, that sucks on shipping though. i would check to make sure the VC is still aligned. looks like the poor thing got drop kicked.

    what to do

IMO, that's really sealed, but obviously it's not doing something for you... decent spl would be 135 area test tone while maitaining a 130-133 area on music. well i'd like something that will play 30hz and rattle the chit out the person, the sealed box i have now does not do that. i mean the sealed box has very flat response with no spikes but low end isn't cutting, but maybe its because i was used to 3 15's i had in the jeep but still i figured i could get more. so now what would be the best for a car to get low end? then after i upgrade i'll use the box in HT an if i don't like it i'll build another.
  16. dustin420

    what to do

what would you recomend? im just looking for something that will play low very well but still have decent spl while being used in the car. also im willing to have a trade off since the best box for HT is not the best for a car. so im trying to get a box that will work well in both enviroments.

    MJ-18's

wow 2 18's for that tiny room? if done with a correct box that will be insane. first though you need some real power, forget boss amps they suck. second get a amp thats meant for home audio will be so much better in the long run. third how much space do you have to give up? 2 18's will need a huge box. fourth is this just for movies or will it be for music? i see you don't want to tune lower than 28hz? i'd highly recomend going lower for use with movies.

    let me know

ok i allways thought chad was still in charge of AA, but just had scott help him design the subs. as i was reading in the other thread though it appears that chad has his own companey "epic audio" so does this mean that he is no longer assciated with AA? if so who is in charge?

    eDead

damn dude that sucks. i used v1se on my hatch in the jeep and it never did anything close to that. in fact when i got my new car i tried to take some of the it off to put on the trunk lid and it was a bitch to get off. as for its sound deadning it worked pretty well for me, when i had the 3 15's in the jeep with 3 layers on the hatch it killed a lot of the rattle but weighed so much the hatch would only open about 3 feet so it did have a downside. the only comparison ihave is the dynamat i used on the doors and it worked well but i preferred the edead so. for my new car though im gonna try out rammmat or second skin to see what there like since i here such good things.

Just pm DC Audio. it wouldn't be right to post what someone paid here. take the risk with the sound I think you would be very very happy. Z ya i'll do that for price but i'd still like to listen to them. im coming from having an AA atlas xbl^2 which is considered by most to be one of the top five best sq subs ever, now i know sq depends on the listen and box design but i don't wanna go from the atlas to soemthing that sounds like an L7, which to me sounds like azz. not saying the lv4 will sound like that but i don't wanna take that big of chance.
