lighting bolt in side my amp loud snap pop sound
eCrack replied to chris89127's topic in Sundown Audio
I just stumbled across this thread and I have never done business with sundownz OR DB-R but since I can read my guess would be what Jacob as well as another member here suggested... Send back to DB-R FTW. If it were me, I'd go to their website http://www.db-r.com/sell/store/. Then I'd look to the lower left hand portion of the site under "information" and click "contact us". Then I would proceed to describe what happened and ask what I need to do to send the amp in for repair or replacement....... but that's just me. -

My forums as well as this one are invision power board. If you can view this one, you can view mine. It does not require membership to view anything. Also, the front page has the details. Anyways, here are the details: We will meet at the Kroger parking lot near Fazoli's and Blockbuster and then head to the location of the comp. Again, it is July 11, 2009 and the judging for class begins at 9pm. The competition cannot be held inside the city limits of Mt. Vernon due to new stereo laws and a lack of anyone allowing us to use their property. We will be leaving the city limits where there is no sound ordinance. Thank you for your interest. -

This is our first attempt at a comp. There are no great awards. It's really just for fun. It's not an official DB Drag or Bass Race. I will be trying to stick to the rules so that at the next event it can be official and everyone will be used to it. Come on out if you're in the area. If you're a major competitor, you'll be severely disappointed. It's just going to be people with street beaters. It is our first try so it probably won't be as well organized or as professional as it can be. We are learning... At any rate, It should be fun. Details can be found on our website: http://www.ecrack.net -
I would like to purchase (2) Digital Designs 9512g's. The local dealers here do not carry DD and I cannot find anywhere online to purchase these subs. Would someone please point me in the right direction?

Not in any credible competitions... at least not initially. We have a few here locally, but I don't think I would count as a competitor to anyone.

Well I actually have been pretty successful in business. I have a very good job and do very well at it. My intention is not so much to divert or steal people from this site, as much as it is to supplement car audio as a whole. I really don't see why anyone would leave this site to come to mine at any point in time, as my site is not intended to be a replacement for the wealth of knowledge that is abundant on these boards. My site was started with the intention of making car audio product updates centralized. I really don't care if I do the reviewing. I don't care who does it as long as we have the ability to gain more knowledge about the products without purchasing them first. Denim, I have been lurking for a few years. Maybe I am not able to convey my intentions well but what I am looking to do has not been done and is not being done. If it were, I would not be pursuing this. So in short, people took my willingness to test product as arrogance. They took my reluctance to divulge my depth of knowledge as ignorance. (I was being baited and with my rta comment was able to get Neil to stop baiting me. Don't you see?) Finally they took my unwillingness to be pushed around as overly defensive. I keep re-reading my posts and then reading the replies and I wonder just how they were perceived. Surely not the same way they were intended. At the end of the day it doesn't matter. I'm not quite as ignorant as you all may think. I am not quick to ask questions. I am very familiar with most of you, yet this is the first time you have heard of me. I have introduced myself at a few boards, but this is the one I was most excited about. With knowledge comes arrogance, and I find it ironic that I have been called arrogant yet everyone who has spoken negatively to me so far expressed a certain level of arrogance. How about everyone stop trying to tell me why I can't and shouldn't do my thing, how to act, and how to live and instead just let it be? If I'm not going to succeed then there's no need for negative comments. I mean no harm to anyone nor do I have any aggression towards anyone. Quite the opposite in fact. That's why I came here. I admire many of your levels of knowledge, yet I do not admire your attitudes. These attitudes are a huge reason car audio is no longer as successful at it once looked to be. It has now broken up into sects and if you are an outsider to that sect then you are surely a noob and don't know as much as someone within the sect, whether they be a wannabe or genuinely skilled and knowledgeable. I WILL NOT tolerate that sort of behavior towards me because I have a greater understanding of certain aspects than I'm sure most do, yet I am willing to help others understand rather than look down upon them. THAT is one of the biggest things I am looking to combat. How many people do you think love car audio but come to this site and join your community? The answer is a very small percentage. The secret is, you want it that way because most people are dumbasses and with all of them here it will ruin your community. I will agree with most people being dumbasses but about half of those people are merely uneducated and not merely lost causes. Those people want to spend their money on good product, but they don't get as informed as they should be so they spend their money on junk, or get pissed off at the arrogance and don't spend their money at all. It's time for an attitude adjustment, but it's not just my attitude that needs changing. Every time you tell me to take a look in the mirror, take a look in your own mirror. My attitude is not as bad as what you may have thought, but some of yours certainly are. I am glad this thread is dying down and people are making their peace with the fact that I posted here. Most still do not like me or what I am doing, but now they are not quite as offended. I never meant to offend. I was merely trying to tap into the most knowledge-rich car audio community in existance. Ironically, one of the first questions I was going to ask was if there was anything better than APx. If there was any affordable way to acquire such a thing etc. Hopefully in the future people will not take so much offense to me. I am just like one of you. I have much the same level of knowledge. I have much the same level of experience. (As the ones who did the hardcore bashing.) It is those that are experts that I came here for. They are more knowledgeable than myself and I would like the ability to learn from them.

We have started a Car Audio News and Reviews Website. So far we don't have vendor support which is obviously key. We designed the site so that vendors can post new product information directly to the front page of the site. They do that at no cost to them. We would also like to review their product. (We are willing to pay for return shipping.) It is difficult to get started for two reasons. Visitors will not come if you have little content, and vendors will not advertise unless you have visitors. So we're asking both parties to come and take part. It will benefit us all. For too long we have done without a single place to get all new car audio information. We have done without reviews of products and have been forced to buy based on our friend's experience. It's time to make this hobby that we all love prosper. Please help us do that.

So I just took a little read of the discussion of me in the "Ihop". I'm not really sure what pisses you guys off about me so much other than I defend myself when people try to slam me. I'm not French. I'm American. I thought that was ok here Anyways, I'm just a 24 year old college graduate trying to do something with what I love. I have been a member of so many forums it's not funny and there is always the boys club that you have to earn your way into. Well, I don't want to earn my way into this one, and I'm sure I couldn't under this screen name anyways. I am not looking to be a frequent member although I know this is one of the most knowledgeable places online for the hobby we all love. That is why I came here. I was half trying to introduce myself so I might be welcome when I want to ask some questions. I obviously also wanted to plug my site as it gets very little traffic right now. I'm sorry if by starting a website I have stepped on toes. I will never cower down to anyone. I got punked once as a child and I will never let it happen again. If someone comes at me for no reason I will defend myself, just like i did here. If you look, I didn't start anything. At any rate, I don't want to further piss anyone off so I will not post anywhere other than this thread (if denim doesn't remove my rights to post) unless I have a question I need answered.
-
Well I made this room, so I suppose it would be mine to "piss on". Secondly, I had no sooner introduced myself than a bunch of people wanted to tell me how they know more than me and because of that I shouldn't have my site. Well they weren't right and I defended myself. I didn't call anyone names or do anything wrong. I re-read the thread and I looked for any "high and mighty attitude" and I found it, but not in my posts. I found it in the one I am currently replying to though. I have no ego, but because you felt the need to come in here and post this negative post I can't help but realize that you do and that somehow I have threatened it and you are putting me in my place? I'm not really sure why you felt the need to say the things you just said. That same portion of the mobile audio industry was distanced when they read the thread title. Most are so arrogant and think they know it all that they wouldn't give anyone a chance. The rest are fanboys to these elitists. I knew all this before I went into it. I thank you for your suggestion, although I will not heed it. I have done nothing wrong. I have some new ideas that will work if people will give them a chance. They will help car audio as a whole. So in short, I am sorry that many of you are not open to someone new doing something new. If you've thought something I said was high and mighty please read it again. That is not how I intended anything. I must say, this HAS to be the most popular introductory thread in history
-
I was not referring to you as a fanboy. I was referring to the masses. You have obviously chosen to educate yourself. Please take no offense as I meant none.
-
Well that's ok because although you might not trust the results I render, you are going to find out for yourself. This is one of the main hinderances of car audio and one of the main reasons for such fanboyism. People will not try new things. They won't listen to other people. All I am doing is making it possible for those rational-minded people to judge product based on the product they have personally experienced. It is not only possible, it will happen. Hopefully one day you will look back and say "I'm glad I was skeptical, but these guys did a bang-up job and really helped the industry".
-
Yes you made each of my points for me with that statement. Thank you. I was not asking you to have that page. That is what I will be doing. The manufacturers may not come out with new product all the time, but they may have a breakthrough as far as a record set with their product. They may release recone kits for them. There are ample ways to advertise without having a new product to launch. Your site may have died off, but mine won't if people will give it a chance. I am having a hard time overcoming the so called "experts" short-sightedness.
-
Well you're glad they are defensive because you view them as defending your site from competitors. I am not a competitor nor am I doing exactly what audiojunkies is doing. I am sorry that it is unclear what I am trying to do. Right now I would just like for people to post their product to my front page when they are about to release it so that the car audio community can have a SINGLE place where they can see all the new product and not have to look for it. This will help everyone, including myself to gain a foothold and get some viewers interested. When I say it will help everyone, I mean everyone will have the same exposure. How many of the top manufacturers do the majority of the markey know about? Probably 5. They know Rockford, Jl, Alpine, MTX, Kenwood, and maybe a few others. If they can see each product with the same exposure then everyone will be more informed. Then I can start with my banner ads, and generate enough to help offset my testing equipment. With testing, I am going to need some pointers. I am not the super guru. I am also not ignorant by any means. I can assure you that after I review something, it will give the reader a much better understanding of what it actually is. Secondly, I don't expect you to send me free product, but if you were gracious enough to do so, I would return it to you. I am not looking to receive free product. All I would initially like to see, is for people to advertise their new product on my website for free so that we would have ONE place for ONLY car audio news. Right now, you don't have a single page you can make your homepage and be updated with the latest product from each manufacturer. I would like to see that happen. As far as the testing and reviews go, I don't have all of the equipment I need to go as in-depth as I'd like yet. I realize how skeptical people are of this type of thing, so I have been waiting on that portion of the site and wanted to concentrate right now on getting people to advertise their product on our site. Eventually, banner ads will be available for those that wish to partake in that, and that will be the only income-generating portion of the site. The posting of new product will always remain free. To the debate going on about how numbers give no indication of personal preference I have a question. If a speaker's results indicate a flat response, and they are very similar to a speaker that I enjoyed the sound of, how likely is it that this speaker will sound totally different than the one I've heard in the same application?
-
I saw the big 12 challenge but apparently I missed what I was looking for. I'll take another look. You did the testing I'm speaking of? What i think you are looking for is something that really does not matter, with the 12 challenge we reproduced a daily driving type scenario..with generalized boxes, and generalized installs with response curves of this woofer does this given scenario A, B, and C. At the end of the day a speaker is to reproduce music, all the numbers and hooplah matters none... Beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder but the numbers DO matter. How else can we give someone any idea of how something might sound via text? Sure some people like high distortion, but the numbers will show them which speakers to go for if they want that I guess we agree to disagree. You can argue numbers until your blue in the face. At the end of the day it's all personal taste. If subject A thinks that 2% THD sounds better to him/her then that is the end of the arguement. You can argue that subwoofer from company X will sound leaps and bounds better because your graphical data indicated less that .000000001% THD through the full sound spectrum... He'll buy the sub, say your an idiot, and we're back to square one. I agree and I wouldn't argue that with him at all, but the goal is so that people can gauge a speaker they have heard with those that they have not. In this way if they prefer 2% THD he can find other subs with similar distortion. I agree it is about personal taste, but to those that will be able to read graphs and know what THD is, it will be helpful.

I really appreciate that and I will. Thank you Neil.

post the link How can I prove myself when you don't give me a chance? This is an introduction... not a review. Also, you ignorantly ignored that I am not merely going to test 2 woofers in one box. Each woofer would go in a range of different boxes. Had you visited the site, you would see the subwoofer testing methodology. Unfortunately for you, you want to remain ignorant and very rude for no apparent reason. Really? THen how are you still here? All you have been doing is acting high and might... like you are the gatekeeper or something. So far you just sound like an angry wannabe. Also, I'm not a bit concerned about your online personna. You're just another fanboy of the "leet" guys out there. I've seen a million just like you. you've posted how many times and not given us one good reason to respect you? list of accomplishments, anything?

My name is Blake. The testing I will be doing on amplifiers will do the standard power tests, and since it is impossible to compare sound quality, I will compare the input signal vs the output signal. In these ways the amplifier's efficiency, maximum power output, output before clipping, and accuracy of reproduction will be represented. Subwoofers will be tested in much the same way. Sorry, looks like you had your name in the title of the thread and I missed it completely. Anyways, I guess I'll be the first to say welcome Blake! If you don't mind my asking, what measurement software and setup will you be using for subwoofer (and presumably normal speaker?) testing? I can't tell if you're quizzing me or if you want to steal my testing methodology At any rate, I'm not totally sure how you knew I'd be using a pc based solution. (of course I'd need something to create the graphical displays to represent the data) but I could have simply used analog signal generators and rta's. Well a pc solution offers significant advantages in terms of quick FR, impulse, THD, CSD, and IMD measurements. I don't know why anyone would bother with anything other than PC software nowadays. So what will you be using? Do you have an anechoic chamber? What measurement method will you be using for subwoofers? I ask out of curiosity and maybe I can contribute, too. Well I am working on the chamber atm. It has proven to be much more difficult than I had expected but I believe once I show it, others will have to help me work the kinks out but the basic idea will be copied. (certainly this will be confusing, but I don't want to reveal it in case I totally fail. high hopes and low results are quite an embarassment.) Measuring the sub output will prove extremely challenging. I haven't got to do it yet. A suggestion would be helpful. So far I am limited in the software-based rta's. The plan was to take a 5 second snapshot of an input signal, then have the rta capture that same 5 second period and compare the two. I am confident that any rta will be show a signal different than the input even if it were a perfect speaker BUT I believe that the differences in the responses once recorded will show the variations and be more than adequate. (Also, to be more technical, I mean the input into the sub and NOT the amp input.) I have high expectations, but without any vendor support it is difficult to iron all the bugs out.

How can you say you have no idea who I am yet proclaim that there are people here with more experience than me? You are talking out both sides of your mouth. You should stop now before you look any worse.

I'm not sure why you're taking such issue with what I'm saying. It is clearly the truth. If anyone ever told you it was crap then they were full of crap. I clearly explained what I meant with my previous post. Comparing two woofers in seperate boxes is not a scientific test. Conversely woofers have different displacement and other factors that make them perform differently in different enclosures. For this reason the woofers must be compared in a pre-set range of enclosures so that it can be seen how they each perform in the same environments so that a comparison can be made. So far nobody does that. I can. Since nobody has done that before I WILL take it as they have not thought of it before. I WILL take it as I know better than them.
