Bigger box vs. slightly smaller box...
SpeakerBoy replied to Don Ganso's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
No such thing as underpowering. Clipping, however, can be dangerous. -
Hey, while we're on the topic, whats up with SSA search? Ill search something and it will bring back seemingly random results, posts that contain the word, but maybe not in the right context. Idk i just found it confusing. I know, our schools network was gettin funky yesterday, and i was too lazy to google it on my Wii.

*sigh* The problem we have with the church audio setup is that, while it sounds good from the tech booth, it is spotty, like, good spots all over the room, but not consistently. We are trying to get as even a soundstage as possible, throughout the room. If those programs are the only answers i guess its out of the question, it's not in the budget,.

I don't have any clue what it is called, but i recall a program for the computer with a series of microphones that listen to a given song or test track and give a top view of the sound waves throughout the room. I am trying to figure out what it is, so we can dial in the system my church currently owns. Thanks! -Chris

No such thing as underpowering, and "full potential" is too broad a term. Potential for what? Music? Comp? More details. No help can be provided til then. Is your BTL D1 or D2?

I think I know what time it is..... -
It's 22" come on... Someone do the math, how much area is that? And 8500w to boot? The new one is rediculous. 400lbs? Most of it is frame!! Am i wrong? I calculated the surface area of the 24" to be 48sqft? If they hit anything below 150 with that much area, i'm gonna break someone.

Nope. I was wanting to buy one, but isn't it like seven bills? Is there a such thing as audio insurance? Or do i have to be happy with a warranty?

Behavior of Woofers at and around tuning.
SpeakerBoy replied to SpeakerBoy's topic in Advanced Discussion
Sweet, I think i'll pick it up around my birthday..... 12 days Ordering the book soon, Could someone throw me a quick idea of what the woofer does at tuning? why does it move less, but produce the same, if not more sound? I understand it a little, but i don't know how to say it quite right. Thanks, Chris -
Peak power is bullstuff* that crappy companies came up with to make their woofers sound better. Burp power is different. Which are you looking for?

i cant edit my first post? Arrgh... I think i was a little vague, but i was asking for a 12-14cuft box, with lots of bracing, no carpet, and a removable port, run? simple T-shaped ported box. I will try and dig up an eclipse's max dimensions, since i cant measure it myself.

I am going to be building a box for two Warden 18's somewhere in the next year and a half. Firstly where are you located? Second, how much would a 10-14cuft box for two 18's run? Oops gotta go to next class. Thanks, -Chris

I was looking for something to help with the sound imaging in my church (I do tech there). They can't seen to get it right (strange shaped room). I guess it's back to more trial and error.

I found a sweet deal on an older model eclipse. I am trying to get a job, but the economy sucks. I also decided, i am going to wait on the lincoln, until i prove to myself that i can treat my car nice, because i just dont trust myself enough yet (i'm clumsy). So for the mean time (and while i save up for insurance, the car and the stereo, i am toying with the idea of building a t-box for the back seat-area and into the hatch. Subs in question are (2) SSA xcon 18's, and a sundown 3500D. i am still deciding on a powermaster battery batteries, but Knu wires and fuses for sure. My goal is a low-end monster, maybe 25-28hz. i would like some of you box-gurus to throw me some possible dimensions. I want to use aero ports, maybe like 6" ones. I would like the woofers to face upward. Thanks for suggestions. --Chris

Can someone list the properties of bandpasses, 6th order through 12th order? (ex. 4th order is a sealed rear chamber and a ported front chamber.) Just curious. Thanks, --Chris
