    Small application cap

I know how useful caps are (or rather aren't) in a vehicle, but how about a smaller application, like my backpack? I haven't had the opportunity to experiment with this idea, so what do you guys think? For anyone who doesn't know, I use an Everstart 12v Motorcycle battery. It's about 6"x3"x5", not big, but it is enough to run most amps I have thrown in the bag (My oldschool Kenwood 60w 4 ch, my 100w Jensen, and my 200w Earthquake <-- R.I.P); however, deep bass notes tend to make the voltage sag (duh). I was planning on adding more batteries, and saying to hell with back pain (most recent design is pretty lightweight anyway, I have room to mess around) but if I could add a cap and save on weight, and a bit of room, that would be sweet.

    Small application cap

I'd trust M5's ear, despite our extra fuzzy friendship here on SSA When it comes down to it, weight and size are the limiting factors. The worst one i've built was 45lbs, and while it sounded good, wasn't as loud as i'd like, I had the battery power, but no room for a box. I can fit one more of these motorcycle batteries in the bag before it gets to the point of not fitting; are there any budget amp boards I could assemble myself to save on space? that would add room for a possible third battery. I'll try to measure my bag to see how much it can hold, but i'm not quite sure how to undertake this, as it's not a rigid structure. If I am able to unearth some specs on my battery, how do I calculate how much I can draw from it? What about 18v?

The Lepai operates from 9v-14.4, my battery sits a bit above 12v.

    Small application cap

I had been looking at some Lepai amps, they look sweet, but I hear reports of only 7-10wpc as opposed to the acclaimed 20-40. However, people also say they are surprised at the output. So, I think 22wpc would be beast. I can't pull it up on ebay, it gives me no results; do you have a link?

    Small application cap

I'm dealing with <200wrms here, and any weight I can cut out of it is useful; now, if they can even attempt to market a 1, or 2 farad cap for a car, surely it'd make a difference in the bag?

I figure, if building stuff like this keeps me out of trouble and off the streets, in addition to being fun as all hell, why not

I've had Bose 6.5's, Altec Lansing 5.25's, some deplorable sony's, Boston Acoustics; The biggest setup I ran was either the altec 5.25" on 100wrms + 25wpc on the horns on the bag straps, or the Isobaric Bose 6.5's on 50rms. here's a link to the most recent bag, Earthquake 4ch, Coby 4" sub in a 4th order, and two JBL monitor speakers, Motorcycle battery, and blah blah. http://s1166.photobucket.com/albums/q619/KTBearTrap26/
  10. My friend drives a Chrysler Sunfire, and is looking at replacing the door speakers, along with the speakers in the back deck; His budget is ~500, but has to cover a new radio, and both pairs of speakers. Due to him not wanting to purchase a sub right now, what would be a quality set to invest in? He listens to a lot of rock and alternative and is concerned about how well the new setup will handle the drums and guitars.

Good low end extension from a comp set

We'll be using all factory locations; The front doors are 4x6's, how could we fit something better? This is supposed to be a basic install, so cutting his door isn't really an option. Affordable deadening options?

  15. Reserve rating... I have no idea, It has no label other than "EverStart" lol. I got it for $15 as opposed to the full $65, open box discount.
  16. I was happily enjoying my new (old) amp, when it turned off. I assumed the remote wire came loose again, end of story. The terminals are screws but with no plate so it slides out easily. (Before you ask, no short, it was in line of sight the whole time). I re-connected the remote wire, and nothing. Simply will not turn back on. No blown fuse, no smell, heck, not even warm. I have no idea where to begin looking for the culprit. I'd post pictures of the damage but there is none that is visible... Any ideas on how to fix this situation? I love this amp, and would hate to retire it to paperweight status.
  17. It's only a couple pounds. The box and speakers are the savior, they are *quite* light, much moreso than previous systems. Even with the estimated weight of all four batteries, it's not nearly as much of a back breaker as the dual 6.5" bose setup I had (two Bose subs, two Bose mids, two Pioneer tweets, 10lb battery, .5"Mdf ported @38hz)
  18. 3amp constant, 4amp surge And the battery is...err.... damn it's sealed up inside the sealed chamber of the 4th order right now. It's enough to max the highs, and put the sub at 1/2, thought i'm fairly sure that isn't a viable measurement Maybe 12-15amps? Not enough, hence it being one of three/four that the final bag will be comprised of. It's an AGM so I can be reckless with whatever angle I leave the bag at (sounds insignificant, but sulfuric acid was the end of three of the previous five backpacks)
  19. Also, power inverter as battery charger; pros, cons? Obviously it works, but how does it affect battery longevity? 115v AC --> 13.8v dc
  20. See the above post; I already had it run that way, I used an ipod as the source not a radio with a remote out. (Need to pick up two more batteries yet )
  21. It gets warm with the cooling fan turned off (not in that picture, it's two feet to the left waiting to be installed) But since it's so frigid outside, I usually leave the fan off, and let the winter air do it's job, for a little extra current. Odd little fan sucks tons of juice. Supposed to be 12v, 0.5a When the battery is up on its charge, it runs just barely warm, (same temp playing or muted) just barely warm enough to notice. I had a wire running from the Rem+ up to the battery positive, I would simply connect it when I turned it on. Never had an issue like that. No turn on pop or anything.
  22. 85w rms x 4 @ 4ohms I was running it at 1+2 bridged @ 8 ohms, and 3L and 4R at 8 ohms each. The amp simply will not power on. The remote turn on seems to have failed.
  23. Battery was freshly charged. Tried Battery on another amp, and it worked fine. Tried the Battery, then the charger, then both on the Earthquake. Nada. http://s1166.photobucket.com/albums/q619/KTBearTrap26/
  24. 12v Motorcycle battery. I had a 4" Coby 4th order, and two JBL Pro two ways. 2.1 setup. Pics are uploading.
