Sony Xplode 10's - modifying enclosure
SpeakerBoy replied to SpeakerBoy's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
So it actually turned out decent; I ran short on wood, and ended up still tuned higher than i'd like, but it hits noticeably lower, and louder. I'ma rustle through the garage for some threaded rod, to still the centers of the new panels; they flex a bit; all I had was 1/2" I guess I might sand and spray it before I move. -
Sony Xplode 10's - modifying enclosure

Personally, my favorite way to do it, but they were just awful, the eq I have just couldn't separate it enough. I am not worried about power handling, moving to an apartment soon, so loud isn't really an option anymore. Just decent sounding. -
Thank you

Can anyone who has had experience using, or heard firsthand, any PSI custom built subs give any pros or cons about them? For the price, I like what they claim, i've never heard one in person however. I've seen stuff here and there, but I really don't put much faith in many other forums word; this is my home forum So out of practice posting; My bad, to be more specific, I was eyeing up a set of Platform 2 15's.

I'm looking to have everything by this fall.

They're all goofy; only notable ones were the pair Bose 6.5's and a pair of cubes on the kenwood 50.4, and the jbl mids and altec lansing in a bandpass on the earthquake 200.4 I've made like nine, customs are more fun but the frankensteins are usually louder.

You are absolutely correct, one of these threads are made every year by this guy. Can't say it isn't the truth, but I suppose i'm better off than I was as a daydreaming 16 year old with no job

All of my preference is formed from working on my friends and family's cars. I'm waiting for a fine to be processed to start driving again. All of them have trunk cars however. The only Suv I've worked on was my buddy with the two BTL18's.

Yeah, I'm in Fort Wayne, I live five minutes from the Coliseum, on St Joe Center. I love the way a clamshell looks, but I am not sure I am willing to take the risk of putting it together and not liking it Subs up port back seems alot simpler, plus I can swap it easier; not to mention I occasionally have nightmares about mounting upper subs in a clamshell (one nasty one was of a set of hcca's in the upper half O.O lol ) Let me ask this, does the amount of cabin space either help or hinder the ability to focus on the lower notes? Does cabin gain favor a particular band of frequencies?

Sounds good to me. now, for four fifteens, in a small SUV on moderate to low power, would subs up port back trump a wall as far as output? I'm not looking for numbers, and slightly louder isn't worth the extra build time and cost for this particular project. I am aware of the many variables, but as of now, especially for 15's, I am interested in the obsidians or the X's. I have a thing for low tunings, and I imagine I'll aim for 25-28hz. Starting power will be 1,000rms, just to have it moving while I save up for a matching amp.

You misunderstood. I want four subs; not a fancy sub. The PSI's were simply my first idea.

I am looking to go with a set of four; i'm not very picky about looks, but that's the one thing I can't manage to shake myself on As far as power goes; I don't NEED to be able to feed it a certain amount; I mean, I haven't even started amp shopping yet. As long as it goes boom, I am happy Anybody with feedback on four 18's in a four door Blazer? The box design I have in mind is fairly simple, no funny angles, IIRC it is similar to Galamonkey's Expedition with four BTL's Back seats are for sissies, so I am cool up to the B pillar.

It sounds a lot like port noise, I'm not sure how much port area he has; I just thought it was a lot, big slot port across the bottom; I can fit my face in there Guess I just wrote it off as a possible cause. I apologize to the BeeTLes then You know, occasionally it's refreshing to be wrong. Glad i'm not forming false opinions of amazing subs Here's a question, because i'm sticking with lower power; more surface area seems beneficial. Had anyone here seen, or done personally, a wall/clamshell in a four door blazer with 18's? I'll be back in a bit, need a rag to wipe the drool off my screen, haven't window shopped for woofers in quite a while.

How do the Obsidians sound? I am heavily in favor of SPL; however, my friend's BTL 18's have that choppy sound, that rougher sound I hear more with SPL geared subs, and I am trying to stay away from that. It isn't that they sound bad, not at all. I'm just, picky I guess; it's not a deal breaker, i'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect. I also have a concern about durability; I know myself, and I like to beat on my toys. They are rated for 600w rms, which I am more than satisfied with. If I ran 1k rms daily to each, provided i'm not a noob and it's nice clean power, would they stress on it? I'm usually pretty fair on the volume, but some days, I just need to vent and my speakers have always been my stress toy.

Any sub that is heavy on the low end, and does not stretch too much beyond a grand for four, is an excellent candidate. I like my slowed music. Jon is absolutely right. I am a tinkerer, and I am never mad about having room to upgrade; so I start low. 1-2k rms is about what i'd opt to feed them, but I want room to double up on that in the future. My end goal is low and loud; I smile when I imagine people bailing out of -my- car This is my first major endeavor, so i'm not about to noob it up. I have been taking notes and drawing out ideas for a while now. What do you guys thinks about Obsidian Audio? I'm hoping to avenge my reputation around here somewhat We'll see how it plays out. Still in the planning stage for now, but we shall see.

Well, I liked PSI for the options they offered, sounds like I was right, too good to be true. I just want four 15" somethings to go in a Blazer, that don't need an assload of power; but won't fizzle out if I feed them more. I'm genuinely poor, but luckily my friends won't let me starve due to my audio problems; I'd like to keep it at or under $1,000 for the four. I'm also open to 12's and 18's, but 18's would likely have to be clamshelled, and I don't have enough experience to do that by myself. But I am after SPL, and learning is always fun. I'm tired of small thrift shop speakers; time to move up a notch.

I've been trying to keep myself out of the dumps; life doesn't play nice sometimes I moved to Indiana, thinking about getting into school for some papers to hang on the wall in an audio shop one day Darn, PSI looked so promising, all the options they offer. Could I request something specific in the suspension? Or are they like that across the board?
-
That was $15 for the pair also, any preference for port orientation, it's going to sit in a corner I was thinking sub one way, and port on the next face
-
I picked up a pair of Xplode 10" subs on Friday for $15 Anyone have any specs for a box that will make these tolerable? I have 100wrms to go to each, it's in a college dorm. I have them isobaric on a bazooka tube for now, and it's okay, but drops real quiet below 40hz. I don't need it loud, just low. Note: I know, they're sonys.
-
So far I have 1cuft @ 28hz/ea that i'll try, would I get a better result indoors, with slightly larger boxes, and more port?
-
I miss it here, I've been out of the loop for a while; lotsa crazy stuff happening. What's new around here? And where's M5, I want a hug.
-
R U 30 NAO? Nope. Just broken. Don't have time for things like I used to.
-
I miss the fun I had building those; it's why I wandered back here. I really love audio, and there's been a hell of a hole in my life without it. Though, I think the backpack idea died with my childhood.

Yes, that was me; lol.
