Which would be louder in your opinion?
mwoehr replied to mwoehr's topic in Sound Solutions Audio (SSA®)
It's official, my next setup is going to be 4 dcon 10s. That's if something better isn't out by time I get my next vehicle. That's a while from now anyway. I just did this post out of curiousity. -
Ok, thanks for the advice
-
x2, good advice. That size box would be ok for a Level 3? I want to get use out of the box being it was custom made and not cheap. My gf doesnt want alot of power. Just a basic 500 - 600 watt system and wants to use the box we already have.

That's a pretty good price for that sub. PAP makes good quality subs. The WMD2's are impressive subs. I doubt you fall in the poor man category of if you were able to afford a SAZ3000d, those aren't cheap amps lol. If you could spend more I'd strongly suggest a Sundown Audio Nightshade.

I have 2 12" DCONS tuned to 33hz powered off 500 watts and am very impressed as well. -
As most of you probably know, I have a pair of DCON 12s being powered off a RF T500-1bd. They were in a sealed box for a while (1.25 cubes each) and I was very unsatisfied and disappointed by them sealed. I didn't like them at all sealed and was on the verge of selling them or giving them to my girlfriend. I finally got a ported box for them made by a local shop (2.25 cubes each tuned to 33hz) and now they are my favorite subs that I have every owned! They are definitely loud ported and drop very low and have awesome sound quality and I just plain love them! I don't know why anyone in their right mind would choose to have them sealed over ported lol. Their sound quality is actually ALOT better ported than sealed. I'm telling you, don't sleep on the dcon's just because they are low power subs and don't take much power to get moving. I have had people thinking I have about 1000 - 1500 watts and they are shocked to find I just have 500 watts. My next setup is going to be 4 dcon 12s powered off a Sundown SAZ-1000D in a RAV-4 or Highlander. I will post pictures and videos as soon as I get a chance. p.s. If you want speakers that will sound awesome without needing external amps I highly suggest MTX Thunder Dome-Axials. They are very efficient and sound crystal clear. I have had people thinking I had components and extra amps with them when I just have them powered off my Alpine CDA-9886 deck!

I've been curious about the Xcons for a while now. How much louder are they than the Icons? Would an Xcon 12 in a 2 -3 cube ported tuned to 33hz powered by a Sundown 1500D be louder than an Icon 15 ported in about 4.5 cubes tuned to 33hz powered by a Sundown 1000 watt amp?

Pairs of non-mainstream Subs that have good output sealed????
mwoehr posted a topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
So far I know of some mainstream subs that can have decent output sealed like JL Audio or Kicker. I also know the AA Havoc's are supposed to be suprisingly loud sealed, but that's in a much higher power range. What non-mainstream subs in the 500 watt power range have good output sealed. I know the dcon's are great subs, but much better off ported than sealed. I have a friend that wants a pair of 12s or 15s sealed off 500 watts and I'm trying to steer him away from maintream and to run something different than the JL's, RF or Kicker that everyone has around here. I'm just not sure what non-mainstream subs are capable of getting loud sealed. I tried the dcon 12s sealed and didn't like them at all sealed, but ported they are night and day. He'll do up to 1.5 cubes per sub (1.5 cubes with a pound of polyfil in each chamber if he runs 15s). The subs I'm leaning him towards are DC Level 2's, IA 187's, AA Arsenal's or RE SRx's. -
I have a RF T500-1bd and I want to try one of these pairs of 10s ported. My girlfriend bought my sealed dcon 12s off me for a great price! Please correct me if I'm wrong, the size of a ported enclosure determines how efficient it will be? I'm going to throw of one these in 1.5 cubes each chamber tuned to 33hz - 34hz. If you've had experience with either of these subs I'de love your input. Is anyone able to tell which of these would be louder? This is the last time I'm going to ask this, I'm either choosing one or the other due to which ever gets more votes.

You're not going to get very good response when it comes to anything RD on here. RD Audio does make some very good subs, however people on here tend to try to drive people away from RD gear because they had bad experiences with their customer service. IMO if a person treats their equipment properly with the amp settings and not being abusive with their subs, they won't have to contact customer service anyway.

What other pairs of low powered 12s get loud sealed ?
mwoehr posted a topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
This is just a question out of curiousity. In the past I had a few different pair of sealed 12s. I have had Orion P12s, JL W3D4 12s and now SSA dcon 12s. IMO the dcon 12s don't get that loud sealed. The P12s & W3D4s I had were louder (I know the dcons may own either ported). Kicker subs also tend to be capable of getting loud sealed. What other pairs of 12 inch subs tend to get loud and sound good in the 500 watt power range sealed? -

I am going to have my dcon 12s ported or try a pair of ported 10s. I'm leaning towards porting my dcons to save money and see how they sound. Was just asking out of curiousity. I used to prefer sealed over ported, now it's the other way around. -
Was just curious about which of these would be louder. 2 IA 187 10s in 1.5 cubes each tuned to 33 - 34hz or 2 SSA dcon 12s in 1.75 cubes each tuned to 33 - 34hz? I have the dcon 12s already, but my gf likes the way they sound sealed and I'm thinking of giving them to her with the sealed box. I've personally never tried 10s before, so it would be something new to me. I could get the 2 187 10s for an awesome price as well.

Which of these would be louder off my RF T500-1bd?
mwoehr replied to mwoehr's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
What if both are in well built and well aligned enclosures? The dcons 12s wouldn't be in the largest size enclosure recommended to them and the 187 10s would be. Either enclosure would be built by one of the enclosure designers on the forum. What I want to know is do the 187s have an output advantage over the dcons in general? I know the dcons have stellar sound quality in general. i assume the 187s would have a little more output if they were more towards the max recommended enclosure size than the dcons. however in a smaller higher tuned box the dcons could potentially take a bit more power. i think you got a valid question but honestly the only way i can see it being answered is by trying both and letting the meter tell you. even in the ideal enclosure they may interact slightly differently with your vehicle. The 2 Dcon 12s would be in 1.75 cubes each tuned to 33 - 34hz and the IA 187 10s would be in 1.5 cubes each tuned to 33 - 34hz. -

I dont think anyone can tell u which is gunna be louder. Its install dependant. That's true and not true at the same time. Some subs are geared towards different things. Like some put sound quality 1st and output 2nd and output 1st and sound quality 2nd. It's like comparing the Fi Q to the Fi BL, nah mean. Both take around the same amount of power, but both are geared towards other goals slightly than each other. Both sound good, but one has a output advantage and one has a sound quality advantage. -

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

RE Audio makes awesome stuff. Being you want to go cheaper, I'de also look into the 2 Icons or 2 IA LI's. I'm not sure about the LI's sealed though. The SE's are good, but wouldn't be as loud as your other choices. The SE's are much better ported. The SE's ported wouldn't even be able to touch the AA Havoc's sealed.
-
The AA havocs are known to be shockingly loud sealed. The RD Sonance is also an excellent choice. Just because their customer service is bad doesn't mean their products are. If you know what your doing and don't misuse or abuse the subs past their threshold, chances are you'll never have to call customer service anyway. I've personally heard an RD Audio setup and was impressed by it. Treo audio's customer service is also bad, however their products are top notch. My number 1 choice on your list and also what I would personally go with in a sealed setup are the 2 AA havocs. Trust me, get those. People have hit mid 140s with just 1 12 sealed!

I saw this post a while ago and there's something I've been wondering. I would say that I personally think the Xcon could take the Havoc ported. However, from what I understand the Havoc's get suprisingly loud sealed. How are the Xcons sealed? Comparing the AA Havoc 15 Vs. Xcon 15 sealed, either powered off a Sundown 1500 watt in 3 - 3.5 cubes sealed.

Right now I have 2 dcon 12s in a sealed box. 1.25 cubes each and they sound ok, but to me they lack the output I like. My girlfriend likes them, so I'm going to give the the box to her when she get's her vehicle which is soon. I orginally intended on putting them in a ported box, 4 cubes tuned to 33hz and even had the box built, but it didn't fit and yes I'm kicking myself in the ass for my miscalculation but it's a beautiful box made by Trev of Pound That Sound and I know it'll eventually sell. I'm strongly considering a pair of 10s in a nice ported box. I have a RF T500-1bd to power a pair. I have never tried a pair of 10s before. I'm pretty sure 3 10s is louder than 2 12s or 1 15 (quote me if I'm wrong), so is 2 10s about as loud as 1 15? So far the subs I am really leaning towards are 2 DC Soundlabs Level 2 10s, 2 SS RL-i 10s, 2 RE SR 10s or 2 AA Arsenal 10s. I know all have good sq but which pair would have the most output with the power I have? I just really wanted to rephrase the topic title because I want a pair of 10s and need more feedback.
