Welcome to SSA. I'm sure you'll find plenty of knowledgable people here to assist you.
  8. This was brought to my attention in thread on another board. The sub continuous power ratings had changed on the website and a couple poster mentioned that they'd be willing to bet it came from retailers complaining about losing sales because the stuff wasn't rated as high as others, even though you don't have to be a rocket scientist to look at the motor structure and suspension on a 13W6 a know it can handle just a tad more than 500W continous. I was surprised however at how much they had underated their stuff. I always figured it was by 100-150W max, but most of them jumped at least 200W. Anyways, I contacted my buddy JC at Audio Advisors, who are the biggest retailer of JL in Florida and who is very close personally to the higher ups at JL, and indeed the ratings were changed due to complaints from retailers and some consumer bad mouthing (I.E. This sub says it handles 1000WRMS for $300, why does JL's cost $700?) The patents and performance parameters weren't enough and only satisfy a smaller growing number of clientell. Here's what he wrote me back: So in short, their subs are no longer underrated. They are listed at what they can truly do. They are what we thought they were!

    Fi Q's in a CA&E featured car

Congrats! And this is kind of off topic, but does anyone know the requirements to get a feature (even a small one) in CA&E? I've seen everything from pretty pedstrian (albeit clean and pro set-ups) to fully crazy in there and was wondering. I submitted my vehicle in the begining of of this month and ahven't heard anything. Thanks for any info. Sorry for thread jacking. Back to the topic

Pulled the latest on Steve Meade's caddy build on Audiojunkies.com and posted it on CA.com. Some one mentioned his build log was here, so I came to check it out. The rest is history. Love the board, best one on the net yet.

    Heath Ledger dead at 28

http://wcbstv.com/breakingnewsalerts/heath...d.2.635530.html Speculation is that Ledger began taking pills upon the filming of Batman, trying to get the most realistic derranged, psycho persona for his part of Joker, which inadvertantly may have led to dependancy and ultimately his death. Saw some reporters on TMZ talking about it.

    My LS Build log

Here is the build log of the setup in my Lincoln LS. Everything was done at Audio Advisors in West Palm Beach, Fl. Been dealing with them for about 10 years now. This is the third vehicle I've done with them. Big thanks to JC, Tom Mangs and Bob Mercer for eveything. How she was at birth, at the dealership. First part of the make over begining at Audio Advisors. Bob begining work The factory head unit Now with the Alpine IVA-W205. They fabricated the trim panel in house. Not sure what kit they used to hold the double din. I didn't purchase one, so I'm assuming they made something to hold it in place iPod interface cable running under the center console, exiting inside the arm rest compartment. iPod resides sunggly in there Door with panel removed, Dynamat added Hole for the factory 5x7 speaker. Notice the bracket around the opening. JL Audio did not have the C5 5x7's ready for shipping just yet to Audio Advisors. So we went with a C5 6.5 model in it's place. Also look inside and you'll see a black Dynazorb pad. JL Audio C5 6.5 coaxial, one of four. There is one in each door. Factory trunk Enclosure for the 13W6. The original plan was to have a single port running across the top of the subwoofer. We later found that we didn't have the clearance. I expressed to JC that I didn't like the look of a single port off to one side of the sub (Hence why I wanted one going across the top). Doesn't look symetrical, a little tacky. So JC put in a call to JL Audio and they sent the specs for a dual square ported enclosure, for a nice even look. Built to JL spec, slightly modified with dual square ports vs single slot port Trim panel mounted to enclosure to give it that sealed off "wall" look. Amp rack mounted. Four screws hold the rack and allow for it to be slightly lifted should the spare tire really be needed C5 crossovers mounted in pairs on either side of the trunk Wiring running smoothly and snug down the sides of the back seat, under the paneling Everything done and in place. Engraved plate at the bottom has the system layout, architects (JC and myself) and the fabricators/installers (Bob Mercer and Tom Mangs) listed. And at night with LED's on. One 20" LED bar runs across the top of the amps, and two 3" bars over the crossovers. A little trim piece hides the bars giving a nice halo effect, unless you duck down. Then you can see them. Part II of the make over: 18" Devino Sire rims, 225/45R Kumho sport's. Interior

JL no longer underrating subs, some info...

I still wonder that. Probably because power handling has little to do with price and original engineering is expensive. And that power handling IMO is the most OVER rated aspect of how good a driver is. It's but one aspect that plays a small part in its overall effectiveness. Suspenion, Cone design, motor force and linearity throughout excursion, materials, etc. all play into it.
