Port length and area help please

I've always wondered how you figure all that out. Is there a formula you use. I know how to calculate the volume but how do you figure out the tuning. Any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks
  6. My friend is installing his eclipse avn52d headunit in his 05 hyundai sonata. I've had a little more experience with it so I was helping him. We got everything squared away and now came time to turn on the car and test it. The headunit came on but there was no sound coming out of the speakers. I double checked wiring. Still nothing. Went to the biggest audio shop around town and they told me to check a few things and I did that still nothing. They said the car might have a factory amp and that is why the speakers arn't working because the amp isn't see power, which made sense but when I did what they told me it didn't work. I am trying to search the internet and see if anyone has had this problem. I decided to post here since I get the best feed back and a lot of people are helpful. Any input is really appreciated. Thanks
  7. tommorrow ill try to hook up a speaker to the head unit. Hopefully i can figure this out
  8. I was just installing my pioneer avh 4200 and while i was pushing the headunit in my yellow wire came undone and must have grounded because the unit shut off. When I connected the yellows back together the unit would not turn on. But once I touch the yellow with a constant 12v connection it turns on. Is there a way i can fix my yellow wire or would i have to tap into another wire? Everytime I turn off the unit it will reset because the yellow wire isn't working. BTW it is an explorer 2003. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Problems with xcon

A week ago I posted in the speaker forum about 1 of my xcons getting hot while the other stayed cool and I figured out what happened with the wires getting mixed up but then today when I fixed the speaker wires the speaker would not work at all. When I push the sub in it is not locked or make any screaching noise. The leads seem to be fine. There looks like there might be a slight tear in the spider. Would a recone fix this or would it need to be sent out? Also how much does 1 cost for 15"xcon If there is anything else anyone can suggest for me to look at the sub or to try it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Problems with xcon

I know for sure the sub was not wired in parallel. The weird caseright now is how the sub will work if only 1 set of voice coils are hooked up but they cannot be mixed together, both sets work. LIke it is a svc sub. I'm just playing around with it a little now but plan on sending it out soon. Has anyone had the problem of not being able to use both sets of coils on a subwoofer before? What in the sub caused this problem since it looks fine, reads fine on the coils, plays on each set of coils but not when they are hooked together.

    Problems with xcon

Im positive it is wired right but I will do runs of all new wire tommorrow. Is it possible that one of the wires got messed up? that has never happened to me didn't know if it was possible.

    Problems with xcon

So i decided to take another look at the sub and I connected my speaker wire to one set of voice coils....it worked. Hooked it up to the other set of voice coils....it worked. Tried to use both coils in series and then parallel to the other sub and.....it stops but the other one still keeps going fine? can any1 explain this? I already have been in talks with a recone but now this is just confusing the hell out of me.
  19. I have 2 15" Xcons with a Sundown 3000 with a 1400kinetik in the back. So I let my little brother take the car out to get some food, and he comes back and says, "Your bass is not on...". He knows better than to abuse my system so I go take a look. Seems like he took a sharp turn because the power wire was just barely in. So I decided to clean up the look of the wires and replaced the speaker wire making it shorter, and reconnecting the power wire. I then went for a spin and everything was sound great again... Then all of a sudden I begin to smell something unusual, I have pushed subs before and know the normal smell but there was a different smell, so I turned down my stereo and pull over. One sub is extremely hot and the other is cool...they are both working. Before I go out to mess with everything again I was seeing if anyone on here could give me something to look for or anything, any help will be greatly appreciated. Thx!

oic, so with a recone that will get it basicly to brand new?

    Problems with xcon

each coil is reading .8 on the 1ohm speaker. I heard that if my subwoofer won't work but the coils are reading correctly the issue is mechanical and a recone will not do anything, is this true? What caused the damage was the neg and pos wires from the amp to the speaker were reversed.

so a recone should get this guy rolling again? Is there someone I can pm or should I call someone? Any1 have any tips with doing a recone?
