that is a Poly-Urithane coating on the ports..(Liquid Plastic)

frequencies below 8hz are beyond the potential of a conventional woofer I have actually experienced a 1hz tone with a low frequency fan set up on a home theater system..I watched Jurassik Park with 2 of these things hooked up and it felt like an Earthquake at times here is a link http://www.eminent-tech.com/RWbrochure.htm

JBL amplifier --- 1.5ohm?

the GTO amps do handle 1ohm easily but may heat up fast in the summer heat... a little trick...mount the amp up on spacers so air can get in around the heat sinks (GTO amps have the heatsinks wrapping around the bottom of the amp) -
