Loud hissing sound when no music being played, is this normal?
Thumpper replied to Florida_Audio's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I would check everything including every inch of wire.....I have seen flattened / pinched speaker wire and RCA cable cause noise it's strange the way you say the noise comes with touching the head unit buttons.... that really makes no sense and almost sounds like there is an internal problem -

you need to drill a hole in a place where you can get a nut and washer on the other side... before you drill make shure it is a clean spot away from wiring , fuel lines exc.... personally I would make the shop fix it....... they should have done that in the first place with that abortion of a ground and the hissing noise you are talking about I would also be worried about the quality of the rest of the install and how it is set up....... -

it's so easy a cave man could do it these are Star Washers.... get good heavy duty ones that dig into the metal with out flattening -

that's a SHITTY ground......get rid of those screws....... scrape off the paint use a nut , bolt and star washers so you can tighten it up properly if a shop did this tell them I said they suck ass and should be ashamed of themselves...... that is a red neck short cut and a half and should be fixed -
these components are very good for the price....crystal clear and you can feel the mid bass they can swallow TONS of power , I'm running a Soundstream REF 2.640 bridged (640w rms ) per channel and they take it no problem https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=9&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjP5I6-wqXMAhXHsYMKHXnGDe0QFghAMAg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FJBL-C608GTi-mkII-GTi-Series-6-1-2-6-3-4-2-way-Component-Car-Speakers-System-%2F301693257673&usg=AFQjCNGTTK1JdEd1zjwqkHvde17dspNiJg

that's a dark oak stain I like working with birch but I'm not cutting another sheet until I have 60 tooth blades on my saws the shit splinters a bit with 32 teeth unless you cut REALLY SLOW.........................
-
this one gets no carpet or paint...........

I have a buddy that ad the same problem.... the diodes in the regulator failed causing feed back in the alt the alternator made a sizzling / buzzing sound when the car was shut off we had it repaired and the tech who fixed it says it was getting too hot
-
$400 for a plastic elbow ...... LOL
-
my wife calls it brain damage.........
-
the birch has different acoustics than MDF .... I was picking up a hint of color in the bass that I wasn't use to not as acoustically dead so I rib braced the shit out of all the interior panels ... problem solved nicer to work with than MDF... just needs a little more TLC on the assembly

that's for 2 tweeters , 2 midbass and the 2 subs ... no crossblock a guy in town purchased set #001 and he does not even have a car to put them in yet
-
I had 2 sets of the JBL 660gti in my ground pounder , they were by far the best components I have ever owned so far and I would not hesitate to use them again but a buddy of mine is the main Focal rep for the BC interior ...... he just had to show of the #7 component kit to me I'm thinking on using the Utopia's , put the midbass in the doors and the tweets and mids up in the pillars ... only decision is going fully active or use the cross block if I use the cross block I can still bi amp and use time alignment ... less chance of popping those tweeters he wanted to sell me the new Focal Utopia Ultima component set serial #002 ( pic below )but I think my wife would divorce me and never let me see my kids again......she would probably have me commited and put away...... LOL

ya... yay me... LOL that's the last enclosure I build for this car , I'm going to put a fiberglass pod and sub in each corner and build a nice amp rack and add a couple more batteries once I get my components installed

up here wasting wood and the lows are as tight as a ........
-
this one is tuned at 30hz..... JBL's recommended tuning ( not mine ) 30hz is too peaky for my taste .... I had the subs in my old Icon enclosure for the last couple weeks... it works out to 28hz and it sounded really good so I put it back in this morning .... not much room for improvement in SQ so I'm going to leave it as is for now
-
ya so this is one of those WTF moments..... I must be getting old..... anything tuned higher than FLAT sounds like shit to me now
-
got the subs in.... I'm not shure if I'll like the tuning or not so I'm going to leave it bare wood and play with it for a few days it is slightly louder in the upper sub range than the 28hz box but , some detail and impact is gone
-
the shit is harder to work with though the Kerfs are SPRING loaded , if you are bending and let go watch out ... LOL
-
multiple choice...torn between 2 pairs of JBL 670gti components or set of Focal Utopia #7's ......
-
the test fit was a success........ it could not be any tighter I'm liking the Baltic Birch ... I can barely lift my old Icon enclosure made of MDF .... I can pick up this new one and throw it across the room ... should help level the Magnums ass end
